4 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: I use this primarily for a main desktop monitor (have a 20" secondary screen as well) but also watch movies and anime on it. The colors are very vibrant in both cases. Overall I am very satisfied with the price I paid ($500 shipped for a factory refurb). Nice to watch DVDs in full-res progressive scan on component cables.

Cons: Very odd viewing angles, I have it hanging on the wall above my desk aiming down at me (2nd screen sits below it) and from that straight-on position everything is a bit dark. From farther back or to the side it's bright again.

Also, the sides are a little bit brighter than the rest of the screen which is pretty noticeable if the screen is supposed to be very dark/black.

Other Thoughts: Overall you really can't beat it's value for how useful this thing is... It's got video inputs for everything above coaxial (who really wants to use that anyway?) and has respectable screen quality.

I don't run audio through this though as I have everything including the PC run digitally to a 6.1 Sony receiver so I can't comment on its internal speakers.

If you want insane quality as much as I hate to admit it, Apple's screens are superior but lack the connectivity this thing offers not to mention they carry a much heftier price tag.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: If your looking for a large LCD monitor that gives you great response and superb colors this is the monitor to choose. The whites are whites, the reds are reds, and the blacks are black. Could not be happier with mine. Zero dead pixels and very easy setup. Dwarfs my Samsung 226 22" monitor. Games look great on this monitor.

Cons: Would love for the monitor to either have a height adjustment or sit lower. Also on first setup be sure to select HDMI for the input selection for picture.

Other Thoughts: Hate to say this, but I found this on sale elsewhere than Newegg. The price I paid with MiR and free shipping is the same price that Newegg offers the HannsG. Look around is the best advice I can recommend.

2 out of 5 eggsLook Elsewhere If Using For A TV

Pros: Huge! Bright! Also great for graphic and web design, almost too much monitor!

Cons: Black almost seems to be non-existent, view angles aren't that great either, you have to be directly infront of the screen and I still think the colors are way off no matter how you adjust them, speakers also suck don't even bother.

Other Thoughts: If you are buying this monitor to use as a TV look elsewhere, the 1080P sucks, get a real HD tv believe me watching it on my blue-ray looks horrible, my old CRT HDTV looked better than this thing, the only other monitor I have seen better than this is the Apple 30" but that thing has a steep price, if you are on a budget it might be worth it. I would keep shopping if you plan to use this as a TV or for movies.

3 out of 5 eggshas anyone got one of these without a dead/stuck pixel?

Pros: For the most part a very clean display. The different brightness modes go a long way to taylor the display to its function. I use this display for my PC and for an XBOX 360 and occasioanly play a movie with the XBOX 360 DVD drive. Text mode is great for day-to-day PC use as it dims it enough to not blind you while surfing. The Game and Standard brightness are great for gaming and movies.

Cons: The bulit-in speakers are horrid. I've had exposure to three of these monitors (two my own) and each of them have had at least 2 dead/stuck pixels. Quite annoying for something with this price tag.

Other Thoughts: I've built at least 20 computers for friends/co-workers and only this particular model of monitor has given me problems with dead/stuck pixels. Since The Egg won't take back a monitor with fewer than x%, im' stuck with it. I've even tried software that is supposed to revive a stuck pixel - nope - still stuck.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing with very small gripes

Pros: Very bright and colorful. Great contrast. Only in a few areas does it not compare to a very good CRT. A good array of inputs and a good menu interface for the monitor itself.

Cons: Monitor has no physical adjustment ability. This is only an issue because the monitor is too big for most desks, and the viewing angle created by the average desk and chair means you get that poor-viewing-angle darkening on the top few inches of the screen. If I could tilt the darn thing down just a little there'd be no problems.

Other Thoughts: Not that there is no remote since this technically isn't a TV. Switching inputs means hitting "1," then scrolling to the input you want, then pressing "2." Also have not tested the VGA input to see if it is as darkened as people claim.

2 out of 5 eggsGet something else

Pros: The monitor is huge, 28-inches looks nice when playing a game, or watching movies on your computer

Cons: HDMI to DVI sucks, I made the mistake of seeing this monitor in the store, and falling in love, I previously had a 24-inch gateway, and I bought this just from looking at the screen size, and seeing viewsonic on it...BIG MISTAKE. I should have returned it as soon as the HDMI port did this 1-2 second refresh. I let is slide because everything else worked just fine, and I could not get over how nice everything looked on the screen. Here is where the major problems started to happen. One day my monitor was stuck on Blue, I thought my computer had went to sleep, but no. Something went awry with the HDMI port. I have an 8800GT Quad Core proc, 4GB RAM. I tried to disconnect the cable...nothing. I finally hooked up the VGA port and used a VGA to DVI converter, and it works. I cannot use HDMI now, no matter what. It sucks that you get either VGA only, or some stupid HDMI to DVI connector..thats it. NO DVI only.

Other Thoughts: If I could do it over, I would have looked at the reviews on this monitor first. I usually buy smart, but seeing this monitor on the shelf did something to me. I want to completely get rid of it, but it's been too long, and I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to ship it to Viewsonic...the Box is huge. I'll just use VGA, and one day I'll just move the monitor down and get something better. Do not get a monitor unless it has either VGA and DVI, the bigger these monitor get, the more they try and limit your connection choices. Don't buy on size alone, you will be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING

Pros: I have had this monitor for over a year. BEAUTIFUL picture. Very bright. I have had no trouble with this screen. The first thing people say when they see my computer room is "WOW". I am considering a second.

Cons: When the GTX 200 series GPU's came out, it made the HDMI input try to accept sound as well. This caused a distorted picture. The drivers for those GPU's have since been fixed though. This would happen on any HDMI monitor.

Other Thoughts: Do it. I value my senses. Hearing and sight are important to everybody. This is why I have a nice screen and nice speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsA Thing Of Beauty

Pros: This monitor is simply beautiful to look at.. and surprisingly large once you put it on your desktop. The resolution is stunning and I have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The colors are brilliant and the refresh rate is very high so there is perfect performance no matter what you are trying to make this thing do. I chose this over a TV so that Blu-Ray movies would look there best. I am very happy with it and you will be too.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The LCD TV's are coming down in price so much that their relative size increase makes it a tough call. I think this is the ultimate gaming monitor for raw performance.. but I can't resist the natural human draw towards ever larger and shinier screens. It's a weakness we all have. Happy viewing!
