5 out of 5 eggspurchased in 2011

Pros: upon first glance, this monitor trumps my vs229h. this was my first ips monitor, and noticing what options are missing from compared to the latest budget IPS by Asus, the vs229h: hue. This one has 5ms Grey to Grey while the official product page for VS229h has 14ms (nonspecific as to whether that's grey, etc). I chose an IPS monitor soon after reading about it and the pros of this monitor are very much worth the cost in this price range. (I bought mine in the $236 range).

Cons: Unfortunately it's not available anymore. Companies often like to try new things and implement a lot of essential features in newer versions, and I can't say there are many similar models to search for. There are so many models that it's hard to interpret which features will be valued by imaging specialists. And comparing the cons to my most recent purchase, the VS229h, I think the ML239h has very minor cons. It's interesting to say the least that this monitor hasn't been reviewed on this page since 1/2012. Fortunately I've had an account and am a verified owner of this monitor.

Other Thoughts: I think IPS monitors have the potential to raise the bar for expectations in pixel, color, image, and contrast quality, and thus I think this meets my expectations based on initial comparison to my newly purchased used VS 229H. I'm not sure how all VS229s perform but if I had to guess, some features may have been removed to make it more affordable at nearly $100 less than the price that this ML239H was priced at when it was in production. I look forward to observing the quality of 1440p, 1600p and 2160p monitors that purport 8-bit S-IPS and high contrast ratios. I'm unsure imported monitors currently meet some of those standards, but I am looking into ones like the Nixeus.

Also, once i went IPS i never looked back.

1 out of 5 eggsBacklight bleed

Pros: low price

Cons: bought two about 6 months ago, just got around to opening them up and using on a new eyefinity setup, but the back light bleed is really bad, it bleeds in the bottom left and a little on the bottom right of both. wish i would have check when i first bought them so i could have got something else.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Monitor, the pros outweigh the cons by far

Pros: Low price, it's 23", it's an IPS, it's thin and very lightweight, viewing angles are great

Cons: there is a purple hue viewing at certain angles. viewing normally there's no purple

A tiny bit of light bleed at the bottom, you pretty much will never notice it unless you're staring at the windows loading screen all day.

The touch buttons are a little tricky, you have to manually switch inputs as there is no auto detect. I thought the monitor was DOA because it would not switch to HDMI and I couldnt get the touch button to register

the glossy bezel will attract dust like flies on... something that flies like

it doesn't come with a flux capacitor

Other Thoughts: with the cons it's still not worth a -1 egg. for the price you can't beat it. it's a great monitor, the colors are crisp, it's a nice size. I use it for gaming mostly and it looks awesome. It's a 5ms GTG but you don't notice it at all. Look up on how to calibrate it so you get the most out of the display

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Its an LED for one. Colors are good. Movies look good and games are good. Not the best LED on the market but for the price, you cant beat it. Some people have reported that there is a purple hue, but I don't have that issue.

Cons: The touch buttons really don't work. I have to touch them at least 10 times just to get them to work. ASUS needs to get this fixed if they want to keep selling this. If you are going to buy this then plan on having problems with the touch buttons. Once you get everything set (which is a pain) then you wont have to mess with the buttons again.

Response time could be better then 5ms, but hey, still not too bad.

Other Thoughts: All in all it is a good LED for the money. I think even though the touch buttons don't work most of the time, it is still worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsRight Monitor, Right Price

Pros: - Excellent picture. 16:9 1080p native, 23" of viewing space, beautiful colors.
- IPS. And all of the benefits that provides.
- Lightly applied anti-glare coating. Apparently, some of the more recent IPS 23" monitors have aggressive anti-glare coatings, but this one seems perfect. Doesn't alter the image quality whatsoever.
- No buzzing, humming, etc. Again, apparently, some models of this monitor had issues with light humming or buzzing emanating from the monitor, but my ML239H makes no noises whatsoever at any settings.
- Attractive. The bezel does have somewhat of a lower "jaw," but it hardly detracts from the bezel's high-gloss, piano-black finish.
- Unbeatable price. For how cheaply this monitor is priced, it provides extremely high-quality performance.

Cons: - Purple hue. Many IPS monitors are known to produce a "purple hue" when viewed at extreme angles. This monitor is no exception. Older IPS monitors were equipped with a polarizer to reduce or eliminate this effect, but modern IPS monitors aren't equipped with them. You won't notice this purple hue during normal usage.
- Menu navigation. Perhaps the biggest con about this monitor. The touch screen controls look nice, but are a huge pain to use. Sometimes they work fine like they're supposed to, but most of the time, you'll have to press the button two or three times before it registers. Luckily, once you set your settings in the beginning, you'll likely never have to open the menu again.

Other Thoughts: - Backlight bleeding. There is some minor backlight bleeding, but you'll find that no matter the monitor (especially at this price range), so I see it as neither pro nor con.
- Gaming. IPS monitors are also renowned for having considerably reduced gaming performance than, say, TN monitors. In my experience so far, this monitor performs identically to any TN panel I've ever used. In fact, I was so amazed by its gaming performance that I had to check to make sure my monitor indeed had an IPS panel and not a TN panel.

All in all, it's an excellent, 5-egg monitor. I purchased it elsewhere for an even greater reduced price than Newegg has it; more reduced than even my 19" TN monitor cost me about two and a half years ago. The cons of the monitor are minor nuisances at best and the pros match some of the best monitors that money can buy. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Color!

Pros: -Amazing color, I just bought another 23" TN panel for my aunt and when I got it up and running for her I really understood how beautiful this IPS Asus actually is. I don't think I fully realized how amazing the colors looked until I got my hands on a TN panel monitor, the difference is there and this IPS wins every time.
- Response time is not a concern, I've played over a hundred games on MW3 on my xbox and on my PC I've played RTS and RPG games and it is incredible. No lagging, no ghosting, did not affect my play negatively at all.
- Comes with cables! HDMI, VGA, and a DVI to HDMI.
- Swivel & Tilt is great
- I feel this is a very attractive looking monitor, the chin in the picture looks bloody awful but once you get this on your desk and turn it on, man it really makes it look good. The chin kind of helps you immerse into what you're viewing because you're not looking at your desk underneath right under your screen.

Cons: - Menu buttons take patience, they are not the most responsive buttons but compared to the amount of times you actually need to adjust something, this is pretty minor. They had to cut corners somewhere to bring a great IPS display under $200
- No DVI port, only an HDMI and a VGA.

Other Thoughts: Highly Recommended, plan on buying this monitor for my fiancee's PC we will be building after Christmas.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor

Pros: It's light, beautiful, and noiseless. I was surprised it was so nice when I got it. Colors in all games, movies, etc. are great. I do not mess around with the settings on the monitor though, so I cannot say anything in regards to its features, as I simply do not know.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I paid $210 for it, and am pleased with what I got for that price. Seeing as the price has dropped it is an even better buy for anyone else.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great as 2nd monitor on my old iMac

Pros: Unlike with TN monitors, no noticeable color shift across screen. Very low power consumption thanks to LED backlight.

Cons: Note that the monitor stand only allows for tilt but not height adjustment. -- Does not seem to automatically switch between inputs.

Other Thoughts: I use this monitor as a second display on my "early 2006" iMac. I used a mini DVI to HDMI adapter on the iMac and an HDMI cable to connect the monitor to the display. -- Note that the factory default for the monitor is the VGA port, so I had to switch to HDMI using the on screen menu. Other than that it was plug and play.

I use the monitor mostly for office work and it is great for that purpose.

3 out of 5 eggsHoping replacement works better

Pros: Awesome color at any viewing angle! inexpensive and lightweight.

Cons: some back light bleed as others have said but barely noticeable for me...
I have noticed some horizontal distortions when viewing a mostly grey screen such as in Photoshop with no files open. (I did try adjusting the focus settings as well as trying it on multiple computers using HDMI and VGA. same distortion no matter what)
I RMA'd it and hope the new one doesnt have the same issue....

Other Thoughts: The original color on the screen is kinda off but I purchased the calibrator from pantone to fix any discrepancies.

4 out of 5 eggsSo close! I dare to dream that an RMA replacement will make it a 5/5!

Pros: Excellent viewing angles, color representations, stand, design, no ghosting.

Cons: Backlight bleed! (only one corner), speaker input for HDMI only.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to play xbox in my pitiful excuse for a man-cave. Backlight bleed was a deal breaker so I asked for a replacement. Almost decided to keep it but I dare to expect more from Asus. In all honesty the bleed was only as bad as what you're used to on a TN monitor, except their bleed is somewhat uniform. A backlight bleed-free monitor will bring my review to 5/5. Newegg customer service was superb, they're the only online retailer I'd buy a monitor from.
Other reviewers speaking of ghosting in FPS games must have VERY sharp eyes (at least sharper than mine).
