Does this display have a matte or glossy faCE..?

These are matte finish displays. 
The bezel and screen are both a fine matte finish. They are SUPERB monitors for the price. I use 3 in a triple display configuration where my center screen is placed vertical. This allows mucho real estate for mouse travel and multiple windows to be open, in addition to full page email, news & similar site display. Buy it, or them.

Question 2

Since my laptop only supports external monitors via HDMI I wan't to know if this monitor support full 1920x1200 through HDMI ?

Yes the monitor itself will support higher than HD resolutions from the HDMI input. Depending on how old your laptop is however it may not support beyond 1080p from the HDMI out itself. Check the specifications for the laptop and if the HDMI output port is HDMI 1.4 you should have not issues if not then you will be limited to the maximum output resolution of your video card on your laptop for the HDMI port.

are there speakers on this model?

No, but there is a 3.5mm audio output jack that pulls the signal off the HDMI input and can send it to a separate set of powered speakers.  Really a better solution since you can pick the sound quality you want.  I have a powered 3.1 Logitech computer speaker/sub hooked up to it.

does the stand adjust up at all?  I'm very tall and would need a lot of lift

No, but don't let this discourage you away from this product. The product specifications tate that you can use any 100 x 100mm Vesa based stand with the panel safely. This means you can easily look around for an Arm-type monitor mount that is for up to 27" LCD panels and it should be able to work with this monitor as long as the stand is able to support monitors with the 100mmx100mm Vesa panel.

Also, I am very tall and this monitor does not need a mount in my experience. I personally have the panel about 3 feet away on a desk and there is no problem with strain.

Does this monitor have any USB convenience ports? (easier than reaching down to the PC)

No, this monitor does not have USB convenience ports.  That manual, which can be looked up, should confirm this.  I simply use a hub attached to my computer for extra ports.

so how wobbly is the stand? I have cats

the stand is about round and about 7" in diameter, so I can imagine that cats could conceivably bump against it and tip it over. the base is pretty heavy, which does help steady it, but it still doesn't take much to make it wobble.

No, it does not have speakers.  However, it does have a 1/8th jack for some headphones.

I love this monitor, btw.  The 1920x1200 makes a huge difference for some reason.  ;)

How hot does this monitor run? My current monitor produces a great deal of heat and with the summer coming I am looking to replace it with one that doesn't double as a space heater.

I've been using two of these for work for about a year. They work well and I've had no issues with the panels. 
The only issue I've had is every time UAC kicks off, one of the panels looses the signal from my system.... I donto know if that'sa problem with the monitor video card or a driver issue however and asus was unable to figure it out either.
