Splendid!
- Pros: Size, brightness, color
- Cons: The shipping cost. There really isn't any con to this monitor and as long as your setup is right and it will be the biggest and best investment for a flat TN panel monitor you can buy.
- Other Thoughts: I will show you guys how awesome this monitor is capable of despite those bad reviews (they did not adjust it properly on setup). First, use the HDMI to DVI cord that it came with. Set Brightness level to 79, Contrast to 75 and X - Contrast OFF. Now go to Hanns-G website and download the monitor driver for Windows Vista. Select HG281DPB instead of HG281DJB. Double click on infinstall, wait for a minute and it should give you a confirmation that driver is installed successfully. Now here comes the good part. Click on the Hannspree tab to go to its website (yes they are the maker of Hanns-G monitors), and dowload the "X-Tune" software. Select the only 28in monitor which is HF289HJB. Unzip the file and run the X-Tune and calibrate your monitor to your desire! (Tip: it helps by squinting a little when you are adjusting the Pattern selection and choose 6500K (nature) in Color Temperature selection). Save your settings. The results should rival some of most expensive monitors! ENJOY
Great choice
- Pros: Best square inchage for the money, by far... 1900x1200 resolution great on a big screen... I run higher resolutions on lower monitors and it just makes me realize I'm getting older as I squint. But I'm also a high res nut, so this is the great compromise: 1900x1200 stretched out to 28" is perfect 3 feet in front of you. HDMI hi def / built in speakers nice addition, although switching betweent the modes is cumbersome. Completely agree with the other reviewers... tilt can drastically affect your view. I too mounted arms on two of these monitors actually, side by side! I acheive the perfect tilt.. and it works. Other screens will be more viewable from further angles (this would be a bad tv, for example, from 10 feet away unless you were dead perpendicular to it north south east and west). But it's under $500, free shipping, 28 inches, and if you're only using it for your workstation and can use an arm, you won't regret it. Lots of ifs, but worth doing.. VESA mounts work well.
- Cons: Angle of view narrow, weak speakers (but livable, and there IS an audio out jack you can funnel through your computer to supplement if you want more sound... also line in mini rca). Doesn't seem to power down when my computer is off.
- Other Thoughts: I've had the best monitors and own an IT company. I regularly get clients much better monitors, but thought I'd try and be thrifty for once in my life and see what its like. Totally great feeling to have something that isn't perfect, but becomes enjoyable because the performance per dollar is VERY high. Love that high end monitors are now accessible to low IT budgets. *** Note, as I don't see it mentioned much in these reviews. There are two versions of this monitor, the 281DPB ($489) and the 281DJB ($579 at time of this review). THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE MORE EXPENSIVE DJB HAS A HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE STAND. This will help those users not using a VESA arm where the aforementioned perfect angle cannot be acheived... the tilt AND height will help. The $489 DPB tilts and swivels, but is not height adjustable. It's the model you'd want to get, saving almost $100 if you were going to mount on any arm, because you'll toss the stand anyway. Hope this helps

Good monitor, but expect bleeding.
- Pros: - Awesome size
- Good colors, bright, clear picture etc. - No ghosting due to 3ms response time
- Cons: - Menu is a little quirky, but useable.
- Blacks are not true blacks - Don't like the way it makes you switch from VGA to HDMI - Only one HDMI port - Bad backlight bleeding around all four sides.
- Other Thoughts: I would really like to emphasize how bad the blacklight bleeding is. There is about an inch of misty whitish bleeding around all four sides of the screen when black colors are on the screen. It is not completely horrible, but it is rather annoying on black screens. I'm quite sure just about everyone who buys this monitor experiences this, but doesn't understand what it is, and even refer to it as 'ghosting', which is incorrect. I've read several forums where people experience the exact same level of backlight bleed as I do. Every LCD screen has some level of backlight bleed, but this really just has too much. I have email Hanns-G about it to see if I can get a replacement, but have not had a response yet. If this blacklight bleeding was fixed, I would give this monitor a 5/5 - 10/10, but with this issue it's a 8.5/10 for me.
Best deal on the market
- Pros: -Bougth at 300$CAN at newegg.ca with free shipping during Black Friday
-Very good black level -Very good color repro. -Easy to tune with Handspree X-Tune software, forget about those hard to use buttons -Very good for office work and watching movies -Heavy and sturdy base -Quality is comparable with Dell's >700$ monitors
- Cons: None
bang for the $$$
- Pros: I have 3 of these monitors now. I had 1 that I picked up a couple years ago at a bigbox store and just got 2 more on black friday. sheer size is amazing for the cost. people are awestruck when they walk in my office and see 3 side by side.
- Cons: not really a con of the recent purchases, but the one i bought a while back is not as bright as the new ones forcing me to dim the brightness on the new ones to match. also the old one has a slight flicker to it. it has been on 8hrs a day minimum for a couple years so i cant complain.
