4 out of 5 eggsDecent cheap huge monitor

Pros: This thing is huge, like a small TV. It's awesome for multitasking or for Photoshop, video, or sound/music editing, because the high resolution and size makes for a large workspace that you can set fairly far back from your eyes and still see just fine.
Also, awesome for gaming :)

Cons: The color fades to a different shade/brightness from the top to the bottom of the monitor.

It's really a bother if I'm trying to color correct a design project in Photoshop or color correct for video, although you shouldn't be using a consumer-grade monitor for video coloring, anyway.

My other complaint is the lack of exposure latitude. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone who doesn't know about video shooting/editing/cameras, but, for example, no matter what I do with my gamma/brightness/contrast settings, night-time in the game Day Z looks pitch black. No matter what. Because the range of shades it can display in the blacks is very limited. It's almost as though the contrast is set too high and I can't turn it down (the blacks are always crushed for you video nerds).

That kinda sucks. Which shows you shouldn't use this monitor if you're doing any kind of coloring for design, photo or video work. It's just not a very accurate monitor.

Other Thoughts: Not the greatest/most accurate color/shading, but what can you expect for the size/price? Great for gaming and movies (unless the game is set at night-time), pass on this if you edit photo/video/design work.

1 out of 5 eggs*BUYER BEWARE* Misleading Warranty

Pros: Worked as expected for a year and a half.

Cons: Monitor just died after 1.5 years and I am told by Hannsg the monitor is covered by a 3 years parts and labor warranty but the backlight/LCD are only warranted for one year. I guess now I know what they mean by limited warranty. This is the last Hannsg product I will buy. Newegg listed this item as having a 3 year warranty and their website states all monitors have a 3 year parts and labor warranty. The warranty card for the monitor (the little thing you get after you buy the monitor) states 1 year on LCD/backlight only. Not fair and completely misleading. Had I known I wouldn't have purchased this no matter how good the price.

Other Thoughts: I will give Newegg a call about this. Maybe they can clarify the warranty terms for Hannsg monitors.

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: The price was right at the time.

Cons: I guess I was lucky that it lasted 3 years before the panel started shutting on and off, as well as having other flickering issues. On the other hand, all parts are now out of warranty. To me it really seemed like it was the graphics card, so I dealt with it for months before realizing that it was actually the monitor (to be fair, I dealt with it because it wasn't too bad at first).

Other Thoughts: I'm not used to LCD monitors dying so early, next time I may spend a little more money for a higher quality product.

5 out of 5 eggs3.5 years and still going

Pros: Have had the screen since 10/28/2008. Only one bad pixel but can easily be massage out by rubbing around the pixel with a cloth. Comes back every now and then but it always massages out. Other then that, no other bad pixels and any other issues.

Cons: Just big, though the reason I brought it, not really a con. Somewhat difficult to take to LAN parties with friends.

4 out of 5 eggsGood not Great

Pros: 3 Months now.......working good. 1 dead pixel all the way to the right-no big deal. Good color, the stand is solid - overall I'd buy another.

Cons: Bad sound (kinda expected that), again down with the menu key placement!.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 2 years and still great!

Pros: Great size, great quality, pretty great stand, no complaints at all, no dead pixels!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish I could have gotten another one of these over the HZ281 I just got. Of course it was quite a bit less money but, I'd have preferred this one even with the higher price tag. Then my monitors would match perfectly and I have 2 adjustable stands!!

1 out of 5 eggsdead after 1 week

Pros: Big, inexpensive, with 1920x1200 pixels. Most other 27" or 28" monitor are 1920*1080.

Cons: Video quality not as great as other. Height adjustment is not easy. But worst of all, after one week of normal usage, the video will shut off for ~15 seconds that it will come back again. And the off-on cycle will repeat itself again and again after a short while, making the monitor unusable.

Other Thoughts: Newegg service is first class. No problem returning and refunding it. They even pay the return shipping fee. Five stars for Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsTaps

Pros: Great while it lasted for nearly two years.

HUGE 27.5 inches

Bright, Decent color and contrast (although not the best)

Cons: I've been a computer hardware enthusiast for 14 years and this was the first piece that has ever died on me.

I went to sleep last night and woke up this morning and the monitor would just not turn on.

Tried EVERYTHING to get it to turn on. It's dead. All other computer components are just fine.

Other Thoughts: I played "Taps" for it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy with Hanns-G either

Pros: None. Even the low price over the long term is not cheap. You have to replace these monitors much, much sooner than you would other brand names.

Cons: I like Aaron D agree that the warranty stated by Hanns-G does not match up. I purchased my 28" Hanns-G monitor back in January 2007 and by January 2009 I was starting to get white specs all over my screen from time to time. Kind of like pixels getting power line interference. Now, things have gotten worse and I am getting white lines all over the monitor flashing. I called tech support and the lady said it was the panel and that the panel was only covered by a 1 year warranty. I told her it stated on Newegg when I purchased it that it came with a 3 year warranty. Long story short, she said it would be $130.00 to fix it and I would have to pay to ship it to them. You have any clue how much it would cost to ship that thing to CA from Alabama?

Hanns-G has cheap prices, but that has to mean parts. Like Aaron D said, if you have to replace it every couple of years, what is the point of purchasing their products?

Other Thoughts: Right now, here on Newegg's website, the Hanns-G HZ281HPB states that it comes with a 3 years parts warranty and a 3 year labor warranty. Says nothing about the panel is covered for only 1 year. This was the same when I purchased my monitor back in 2007, it said a 3 year warranty. I think Hanns-G lures people in with the cheap prices and what looks to be a nice long warranty and then the cheap parts die quick and your stuck with a huge piece of junk that cost more to fix than you could buy another GOOD brand for.

I do not like Hanns-G...period! Rip off!
