5 out of 5 eggsCorrecting an error

Pros: Very high real contrast, due to A-MVA panel.
Better viewing angles than TN panels offer.
No fuzziness/noise/crystallization from a matte anti-glare treatment.
Very low input lag (5 ms).
Outstanding pixel responsiveness, compared with older MVA panels.
Very low power usage.
Thin bezel works well for multiple monitor setup.

Cons: Not capable of handling the Adobe RGB color space.
High glare glossy glass screen.
Only HDMI connection.
Backlight uses PWM.
More limited viewing angles than PLS, H-IPS, and S-IPS panels
Very basic stand.

Other Thoughts: I am writing to correct a statement someone made: "NEAR IPS. It isn't true IPS, but the colors, contrast ratio and viewing angles are almost in comparison with IPS monitors."

This statement is untrue with regard to contrast ratio. A-MVA technology, which this panel uses, has much higher real contrast than any IPS panel. As for the "colors", this is an sRGB panel. It will display sRGB colors. Some IPS panels are sRGB and some are wide-gamut.

A-MVA panels generally benefit from hardware calibration, so find a colorimeter like a Spyder 4 and calibrate your monitor when you get it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Monitor! Perfect for design/gaming/document use!

Pros: NEAR IPS. It isn't true IPS, but the colors, contrast ratio and viewing angles are almost in comparison with IPS monitors, and this is a steal! The glass screen also doubles as semi-mirror when the screen is turned off, which I found to be fairly cool. Compared to my Samsung Note II's AMOLED screen, this monitor is much more true to color and smooth to the eyes. The touch-controlled menu interface is also slick (you can also control on your PC via included software) and there are multiple, adjustable presets for you to configure. HDMI Input is also a plus! I also hook this monitor up to a PS3 via HDMI while my PC is hooked up via VGA. It's a bliss.

Cons: This unit is not wall mountable and provides some glare, but unlike what other state - it's tolerable. If anything, get an anti-glare sticker screen and slap it on. I mean, it's glass anyway, right? One other problem was lack of DVI input. Who uses VGA anymore when you pay for a mid-range monitor? It's outdated and DVI is the way to go.
Now includes a free HDMI to DVI adapter (when my original order didn't) and newegg refuses to ship it to me.

Other Thoughts: I'm considering getting an HDMI switch, so I can fully utilize PC gaming to the max. When I hooked up my PC to HDMI (with HDMI to DVI Cable), I was really happy, but wanted to connect my PS3 to hook up. I wish dell provided a VGA to DVI adapter or a HDMI switch to make my life easier.
Monitor is also heavy and might occasionally wobble with shaking, but the base/arm is made of metal and is rather heavy.

5 out of 5 eggsIPS

Pros: Good price, even better if you get it on sale.
Viewing angles are good.
I like the glass since many people use this monitor and collects fingerprint, it is easy to clean and the glass protect the panel.
I feel better on this display, the white and light colors are very define, it is very comfortable on the eyes compare to my older monitor that cost me a lot more. The contrast and details are good on the games.

Cons: -is not 27in
-You really have to control the light on the room to avoid terrible reflections that can really bother but if you are willing to do that it is very nice monitor over all.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you hear a click when you connect the base or it may fall off when connecting the HDMI cable pushing up.
IPS is definitely a game changer for display panels and I want to be an early adopter for this good price.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: -Great screen resolution and quality using HDMI
-Easy to Set up
-Touch sensitive buttons
-Good Build quality
-Great for gaming and work involving multiple windows

Cons: -VERY SHAKY! I know it is secure and wont fall off, but with every touch of the power button or bump of the desk it will wobble for a good 2-3 seconds.
- The base does not provide much height, resulting in an old text book being used as a monitor stand for now.

Other Thoughts: Took off an egg for the shaky stand, seems to me it could have been a little larger and not sacrificed the good looks of the monitor. I've only had it for about 9 days and so far so good, great for the price if you want a large, sharp screen to work with.

4 out of 5 eggsjust wanted to point out dust under glass

Pros: I just got the monitor and using vga currently (ordered hdmi to dvi cable), but so far its been pretty good.

Its a AMVA lcd display type.

You can immediately notice the better contrast quality compared to typical TN lcds. I also bought a Asus vs247h-p recently, and its night and day contrast difference.

The viewing angles is noticeably better than typical TN monitors as well.

The stand is very sturdy with a metal base, unlike the flimsy Asus one.

Cons: The main issue i wanted to point out in this review is that i noticed specks of dust/lint under the glass while cleaning the monitor. (so its there permanently). Its only noticeable on dark backgrounds.

I was using a lint cloth to clean the dust and was like what the... its on the other side of the glass! Fortunately the specks are near the edge of the screen, though once you know its there, it kinda bugs me. It doesnt look as bad as having a dead pixel of coarse but just wanted to point that out for you guys.

Like many have said, there is only a hdmi and a vga port. Though not that big of a deal if it brings the cost down, since hdmi and dvi are compatible with out quality loss.

Other Thoughts: The menu buttons are the touch sensor kinds, some like it, some don't.

I can't give a good opinion on additional picture quality since i'm only using VGA atm, might add more once i get the hdmi cable.

The edge border is about 3/4" around. There are some picture ads that show a misleading border size.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful, but wait. . .

Pros: It looks beautiful on and off!
and I mean beautiful!

Cons: I opened the box and I thought "ha! funny it comes with a VGA cable"
. . .
turns out it DOESNT HAVE DVI INPUT!

like. . .it DOESNT HAVE IT !

only HDMI and VGA

Im gonna use HDMI, so i wont take an egg off

Other Thoughts: really at this point in time VGA is almost obsolete, I dont understand why they went with VGA instead of DVI. . .it just puzzles me

If you are still deciding between monitors, believe me THIS IS WORTH the extra 20 bucks. . .

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The "new" VA panel really does compare well with IPS without the extra cost. Viewing angles are great and in games I have noticed no ghosting. Yeah, you could buy a $150 24" LED LCD of comparable specs, but you are really missing out on a few things with color depth and the viewing angles this has. I got mine for $179 and it's WELL worth the extra few bucks. Can hook up via VGA DVI-D or HDMI so it's very versatile. When calibrated, is truly a remarkable sub $200 24" display.

Cons: No major gripes at all, stand is good not great, about all I can think of.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Low Cost Monitor

Pros: Great looks, very high contrast, low power use, instant on, super sharp text and graphics, price. $200 to 300 less than a used 24" Apple display.

Cons: For some users high gloss screen and only HDMI and VGA inputs.

Other Thoughts: I bought an Asus PA-246Q for photography editing based on good reviews, but for general use it gives me eye strain. The AG coating and lower contrast mek text hard to read. The S2440L has proven to me a fine replacement for my Sony HS-94 (also gloss screen.) After calibration and reducing the brightness the Dell produces very good color rendition. By reducing the blue output about 6 -7 points below the red - green, the white point is much closer to D65. Was a little too cool with the original setting.

Text / internet is super sharp and readable, without any eye strain, due to very high contrast and not 'anti-glare 'sparkle' coating.

Only gave 4 stars because of very limited input, only HDMI and VGA.
