5 out of 5 eggsDependable Modems

Pros: Quality, name brand product. Have purchased 5 of these modems on several different occasins, from Newegg, for different builds for family members and relatives without any problems with any of them! A couple of them are 4+ years old.

Cons: Narrowband, dial up internet access! It's a shame that some areas of the country still depend on this form of access!

1 out of 5 eggsBig problems in Window 7

Pros: Installed in Windows 7 no problem, but Windows 7 has other ideas

Cons: Windows 7 64 bit says there is no modem installed
Many others said it worked fine in W7
Who knows why it decided not to work on my new 6 core AMD machine

Other Thoughts: I installed the modem in Windows 7 64 bit just fine.
Modem shows up in device manager as working properly.
I can query the modem in device manager no problem.
When I go to set up a dial up connection Windows 7 says it cannot find a modem.
I emailed US Robotics and they called me on the phone to help.
After 15 minutes, they finally said they do not know why this is happening
US Robotics told me to contact Mocrosoft
I don't want to go through all that for a silly little modem
I am returning the modem to Newegg and trying another brand

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Great!

Pros: Cheap. Dropped it in and was ready to play in a windows 2003 server.

Cons: None. Can't say that very often.

Other Thoughts: I set this up as a shared fax server for sending and receiving faxes only. Client sends and receives about 30 faxes a day from the office and their home via a VPN connection. No problems, no questions, and no paper required. Awesome. Thanks USR.

5 out of 5 eggsAlways bet on USROBOTICS

Pros: -Provides stable speeds and connections for dial-up. I haven't had a single problem out of it. This is definitely the best modem I've ever used.

-Very stable with Windows 7 64-bit. this is actually the only modem I've found to be completely compatible with this OS. Works great with Windows XP as well.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It's a bit sad that some people still have to rely on dial-up internet in this day and age, but USR makes the experience a little better.

2 out of 5 eggsUnstable for gaming

Pros: * Modem is recognized by Windows 7 64-bit and installs easily. (Windows 7 has a more current driver than what is provided on the disk.)

Cons: * Has added instability to a brand new Windows 7 system, with hardly anything else installed on it. Occasionally getting lock ups or extended hang periods.
* Frequent disconnects and higher than normal lag when playing games. Didn't have this issue with an older modem and on Windows XP.

5 out of 5 eggs2011

Pros: Installed in W7 32 bit , recognized on boot, drivers installed automagically, Here I type. Even XP found the drivers ( dual boot here)

Cons: *heavysigh* we still need these things in some parts of NA.

Other Thoughts: USR has been making these things for a hundred years, they know what they are doing.
