1 out of 5 eggsGood at first...

Pros: none

Cons: Well it crapped out about 6 months after buying it. The customer service is in India or something and the person I was talking to had an Indian accent that was very strong, as well as poor english. Not the person's fault but it was impossible to get any "customer service". Pass on this brand. Poor product and poor service. It was a waste of money.

2 out of 5 eggsWould Not Buy Again

Pros: I did get it to work with AT&T DSL (Michigan). It did work OK for just over 1 year. It seemed like a good price for a combo DSL model / wireless router. Compact size.

Cons: Did not work right out of the box but there was enough info available between AT&T and D-Link to configure it. I would not say it was easy to set up.

The range seemed low. Spotty signal just 2 rooms over (~25 ft). Laptop and wii had trouble picking it up. The wireless router it replaced had better range.

Seemed to run very hot. I kept it on top of the cabinet away from everything else. Maybe I should have put a fan near it too?

It only worked for 13 months. The trouble started when it would stop working and would need to be switched off and on to restart it a few times a week. Then it just stopped working one day alltogether. I guess I naively thought this unit would work for years and I would always have it whenever I switched to DSL. It is not a 1 star rating because it did work OK for 13 months. But, knowing what I know now and reading other reviews (after the fact) about this D-Link DSL modems, I would not have bought this brand and will not buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsWould Buy Again, Does connect to AT&T DSL

Pros: This DLS modem/router is relatively inexpensive, and provides more functionality than 90% or better of users will require.

Simple to configure if you have any tech experience at all, and should allow anyone without that knowledge to configure it if you read the documentation.

Has transmitting power to spare, and covers a 1500 sq/ft house, with excellent signal through 4 - 6inch drywall walls with only 50% transmitting power.

Connected to AT&T DSL ISP. It did require a call to AT&T free tech connection support, however this turned out to be because AT&T did not provide all the information needed to connect in the letter they sent, and I had to get it from the Tech. No issues since initial configuration.

This has been running for the past year and I've had no issues with it. I'll address the other reviews of excessive heat in the cons.

If I had to purchase another modem/router, I would purchase another one of these, that's the best endorsement I can give it.

Cons: Heat can be an issue if you use default configuration. Default configuration has transmission power set to 100%. I mounted my unit to the wall with a gap of 1/4 inch to allow ventilation. I also wrapped the cords around the mounting screws under it which decreased ventilation a little.

After a month of checking the unit for heat, I verified what most reviewers stated. This thing gets hot. Hotter than I think it should.

However, I searched through the setup menus and found the ability to turn down the transmit power. (Advanced->Wireless->Advance Settings->Transmit Power(last option in list) After i turned the transmit power to 50%, I noticed no degradation in connectivity or signal strength, but i did notice a significant reduction in heat production.

I just unmounted this unit in preparation for a move, and the wires I had wrapped under the unit melted into the unit's plastic case. Nothing stuck or ruined, but there are 1/64th" deep markings into the case. So it does get H

Other Thoughts: I put a year on this before writing a review so I could give useful information here.

This unit will provide you with the home network you are looking for, for the best price out there. (as of 7/2010 that is)

Mount the unit so that it has no obstruction to its ventilation, and not touching anything if you plan to use it at 100% transmission power, and you'll have no issues.

Keep in mind, mass production means there are lemons out there. If you read of some units failing in a short time, that could have been a lemon. If you have one person say they got three and all three blew up, its usually because that person did the same thing to all three and it is something they are doing to ruin them, not the unit themselves.

1 out of 5 eggsThink again

Pros: Great service from Newegg...... price was good

Cons: Doesn't work for AT&T even if you manually configure it.. I spent hours trying to configure this modem/router and even spent time with AT&T and D-Link tech support with no luck. If your buying it for AT&T ISP they wont help unless you pay them for tech support because it's not a product they sold....

3 out of 5 eggsMissing DHCP static IP assignment

Pros: Appears to have most features that a home user would need. Browser based administration is pretty quick - much faster than the modem it'll be replacing.

Cons: Missing the ability to assign specific IP addresses to particular pieces of equipment (preferrably by MAC) - for instance, I have several servers that I want on specific IP addresses to make routing easier. This DSL Modem doesn't appear to have that capability so, I may have to hard code an IP into their IP setup (not a good idea).

Other Thoughts: If I would've known this didn't support IP assignment within the DHCP setup, I would've bought a different DSL Modem. I THINK I can make this work but, if I can't for my needs, I may have to return it and get an upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsthrew me some curves

Pros: cheap and very good range compared to Lynksys b only router it replaced.

Cons: very slow to connect to DSL, about 5 minutes after power up on my phone line...Verizon says the line is clean.

Other Thoughts: The slow initiation sequence threw me some curves. I wasn't waiting long enough for it to lock on the dsl line and this caused about an hour of futzing with settings to no avail. This was a case where I should have read the manual rather than making assumptions do to "high" knowledge and experience.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Modem/Router Combo for DSL

Pros: Easy set up, works with AT&T DSL service in the southeast.

Cons: Unit tends to get warm while operating.

Other Thoughts: Recently installed a DSL line and needed a modem and router. I did not want to rent or buy from AT&T so I began looking at other options. This was the best priced package for what you get. The modem worked right away through the "auto-configuration" settings; all I had to do was input my login information. The wireless G range seems comparable to other G routers I have used in the past. No problem with service anywhere in the house. The configuration screen is pretty simple (setting up wireless, password protecting, etc.). I recommend this router if you are looking for a DSL modem and router combo! A much better deal than buying each individually or renting from your ISP.
