The SB5101 is also interoperable and backward-compatible with DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 standards for a fast and timely transition.
  • newegg Dual Interface The Motorola SURFboard SB5101 connects to a computer through either the 10/100 Base-T (RJ-45) Ethernet or USB interface. A convenient top-mounted stand-by switch provides instant security by disabling both USB and Ethernet connection to the computer without disconnecting from the cable network.
  • newegg Easy Troubleshooting The Motorola SURFboard SB5101 features intuitive, easy to read front panel operational status LEDs (Power, Receive, Send, Online, PC connectivity and Standby) as well as HTML-based diagnostics for fast and easy troubleshooting.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat modem still since 2009

Pros: Been using this lil baby since September 2009 and have not had any issues at all. Been using this with Cox cable. I got this to replace a D-Link router that was no longer supported by Cox which died as soon as Cox stopped supporting it.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: If you run Cox for your high speed internet and need a modem, and if you can find it, buy this modem

1 out of 5 eggssix months and failed...

Pros: Worked for a few--six and one day to be exact--months; I'd have been money ahead to rent from cable ISP.

Cons: Six months? Add Motorola to HP and Bose on my list of makers of products to avoid; shucks and I just bought a Motorola Tracfone at WallyWorld for ten bucks, hope it lasts better than the modem

Other Thoughts: Replaced with a linksys refurbished from newegg and it is working great so far. Installed a few hours ago. Seems faster than the Motorola.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat modem

Pros: Between home and work I have probably had over 20 of these modems. I have never had one go out on me. They are the best on the market IMO.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy...

Pros: Great modem. Called Charter and registered the MAC address and had to call back the next day cuz the lady on the phone didn't know what she was doing. But, it's up and running now. Works great. Very happy. It's more like retail cuz with OEM I don't expect a cd and cables. You get all the cables with this and the cd. But I used ethernet and not usb so didn't need the cd. Only thing you don't get is the 1-year warranty. No more 5 dollar rental fee for charter's modem.

Cons: None so far. :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Modem

Pros: Works just fine right out of the box. Comes with both a USB and an ethernet cable.

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: You need to sinc it up with your ISP before it will see the outside.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple and works well.

Cons: I haven't tested this fully but the router will remember the mac address of your router or computer. So if you switch computer or router after it's booted, you may have problems doing a dhcp renew. Just do a soft restart (via the web interface) or turn it off and back on. The ip for the web interface is 192.168.100.1.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter Than Theirs

Pros: I hooked this up to my new cable service (replacing their Surfboard Modem) my download speed test went from 10mbps to 33mbps and my upload went from 5 to 10mpbs!

Cons: Whenever you may want or need to reset it, since it's not the cable companies it takes a couple minutes longer to initialize (not the modems fault)

Other Thoughts: Paying for a service that you can't utilize because they're "secretly" limiting your bandwidth with their modem should be illegal.

5 out of 5 eggsAlready paid for itself

Pros: Simple to set up. Lots of lights let you know what's going on.

Cons: I would have liked it in white. :)

Other Thoughts: Works with Charter cable. Has already paid for itself when compared to what I wolud have had to paid for modem lease from Charter.
