Is this the discontinued hardware version YO.xR or the newer YO.13 version? The new version is white instead of blue, but the model number stayed the same.

i bought two units a few months ago, they came to be the white boxes, not the blue one as shown in the picture.

How does it connect to the computer? will it receive calls as well as make outbound phone calls?

this is a fax/data modem you connect to an EXISTING phone line to send/receive fax, it also has another phone jack to be connected to a phone so that you can receive phone calls if you use that one line for both phone and fax. it will need to connect to a computer via the old serial/parallel port (i forgot what the exact nomenclature, but this is the one connection similar to the old VGA monitor connection in size and shape, but with a reversed male/female configuration). hope this helps.
