4 out of 5 eggsLogitech Pro 9000 Webcam - Very good overall

Pros: * It has very sharp autofocus on near object items (within two feet of lense). I was able to put my iPod Touch two inches away from the lense and the webcam was able to clearly display it.
* I bought this on a clearance, close-out sale at a major retailer starting with a "W". I got it for $35, and I think I got a great bargain because normally this thing is around $70 bucks with tax.
* USB cord is long, in my opinion. I would guess about 5 feet in length.
* This webcam produces quite true and vibrant colors.
* The form factor of the camera and anchoring system are good, in my opinion. It fits on my LCD screen without issue.

Cons: Without a doubt, this webcam is pricey. If you are not gonna do Skype calls, make webcam calls to friends or family, or make YouTube videos, on a fairly regular basis, then there's no point in getting such a good quality webcam. The Logitech 270 or 310 models would be better for the average user.

Other Thoughts: As I said in the pro comments above, I bought this item on a closeout sale at a brick-n-mortar retailer. I got it for about 35 bucks. I say this because this means this model is nearing its end on the market. Logitech will most likely be pushing out new specs and models for NewEgg and other retailers. If you can find this model on sale or on clearance, go for it.

I'm currently using this Logitech 9000 webcam on both Windows 8 and Xubuntu Linux. Both work fine enough. On Xubuntu, I'm using the Cheese webcam program. The filters on it work well enough and the video and camera are good. I have to concede that the webcam seems to work better overall on Windows 8. However, both are a good experience on my computer.

The Logitech camera/video filters are good. The "ghost" filter is probably the best overall. Some of them are good while some are kind of lame.

5 out of 5 eggsWebcam

Pros: Long usb cord.
The stand and the design lets it be placed just about anywhere, whether it be behind your keyboard or on top of your monitor.
The quality of the camera and the mic on the side are nice quality, its not like anything you are going to get out of a go pro but its just a nice looking webcam that I use for skype.
It zooms in and out.

Cons: None, I don't think it's ever going to break and its good. My sister got this and gave it to me, I did't know it was over $70 though, so it is a bit pricey for a webcam and you could go with something cheaper. But remember, this is quality right here.

4 out of 5 eggsAchtung!!!!!

Pros: Exscellent camera, but....

Cons: It has a known incompatibilty with WD Smartware in WIN 7 64.
In other words, the installation is terminated with a blue screen and a memory dump.
The cure?
Elementary: update your WD Smartware to the latest version...and reinstall.
It works.
I had to call Logitech and find a nice guy to learn it.....

Other Thoughts: Maybe this caveat could be published somwhere...

5 out of 5 eggsVery good quality, no driver issues.

Pros: Sharp, colorful picture in HD even when using Skype.
Sits on monitor nicely.
Works with my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit great.
Good sound quality (can pick up very minute sounds)

Cons: ...uhm, maybe a little expensive?

Other Thoughts: I don't know why other people have so many problems with the drivers and not working with Windows 7. It does work with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit that I know of so maybe other people just have sub-par computers?
The video and sound quality is great all around and even has auto focus which comes in handy. I really can't say anything else other than it works like it should and needs to come down in price. Logitech has never let me down.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome for all applications I have tried...

Pros: This camera is amazing. I have had installed on all versions of Windows 7, currently Windows 7 Ultimate. The quality on Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk and Skype are fantastic.

Cons: The stand for this camera is terrible. I had to zip tie the cable to the stand to provide a little more stability.

Other Thoughts: This camera would be awesome if it did 1080P, but I think that is the next tier of camera. I am not a fan of Logitech's software, but that has nothing to do with the functionality of the camera.

2 out of 5 eggsKeeps getting worse

Pros: Worked well previous to Windows Vista, then started getting flaky. I've bought three because it used to work so well and was such good quality.

Cons: Barely works now. It shuts off after up to ~15 seconds of use in Skype; usually just shows a black screen. I can't re-start using it when that happens, I have to unplug and re-plug it in. Sometimes it works great, however. It's completely hit-and-miss, I can't figure out any sort of pattern.

Logitech's update software pops up every time I turn it on, THEN I click Next and it checks for updates (stupid!). I updated to the latest driver (not the 100+ MB of extra junk) from the web site, and it still pops up. It tries to install all the software without letting me deselect any options (which is why I updated from the web site).

3 out of 5 eggsIssues with Skype

Pros: Sharp picture with good color, reasonable low light sensitivity, no problems with gmail.

Cons: Driver, software or Skype compatibility issues: I've purchased two - one for myself, one for my mother. I mostly use with Skype. On my mother's side, the auto gain for the microphone was too high - horrible static-y voice resulted; worked around by manually setting relatively low gain. On my side, Logitech updated software and I began to problems with the picture repeatedly freezing; solved this by loading old software.

Other Thoughts: My desk is in front of a large window - during daytime I have to close the blinds or skin tones get blown out (this is indirect light from sky - not directly from sun).

5 out of 5 eggsNice camera, working well

Pros: High quality camera working well. No problems with installation. Works even on Windows 2008 R2 server.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I expected better clip to mount it on top of LCD.
You can't do that. It can stand in front of you on desk but nothing more.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good

Pros: Works fine with Win7, good picture, auto detected.

Cons: The stand is lousy, wobbles easily.

Other Thoughts: The business version is OEM, which is all you need.
