Designed with the help of professional gamers, the Sennheiser PC 166 headset is the ultimate open back gaming headset. The robust noise canceling microphone makes sure your comments come through loud and clear. Well padded earphones and head-strap provide comfort for extended gaming sessions.
Sennheiser's reputation for great sound is upheld with this headset. The drivers have a frequency response of 15Hz to 23KHz to make sure you hear every sound the designer put in because you want to tell if that's just a rock falling behind you or a gomer trying to sneak up and take you out.
Inline volume controls and a microphone mute switch offer added convenience. The analog to USB adapter has a sound chip built in so it will save your settings when you switch computers. As an added bonus this headset is Skype certified.

Just the Best
- Pros: Light, comfortable, excellent sound and MIC quality. I regularly used a set of Sennheiser HD500 headphones for gaming but needed a MIC for team speak. A separate MIC was not cutting it. I chose the PC166 because I am familiar with the quality of headphones Sennheiser manufactures. Compared to the HD500 I own, the PC166 is smaller and lighter, which makes this set much more comfortable for those long gaming sessions. MIC performance is excellent too. This headset joined with an X-FI sound card made a night and day difference in my gaming experience. I would highly recommend the two.
- Cons: Advertised as over the ear but actually sits on ear.
- Other Thoughts: The headset comes with a USB connector option but I have not tested this out as I just plug directly into my sound card. I chose not to apply the foam attachment that is supposed to go over the MIC and it still functions perfectly. The MIC is not detachable and can not be mounted on the opposite side, for some this may be an issue.
Pretty Good
- Pros: Comfortable, Decent built in mic, 10 foot cable that I will never use, 3.5mm or USB, Good sound quality
- Cons: I actually hear distortion at times when the volume is not high at all. I've had this problem with other headphones but usually turning down the wave volume fixes it, I will continue to see if I can fix it. Its not very bad at all, a lot wouldnt notice it, just its kind of annoying since I notice it
- Other Thoughts: Buy em if you need USB headphones like I do. My laptop has the headphone jack on the right side so if I plug in a pair of normal headphones, it sticks out too far and I hit it with my mouse. This is why I need USB

True Gaming Headset
- Pros: I loved this headset. It served me well for over two years of gaming and has gotten me banned from countless servers due to the true advantage these give me.
These are perfect for hearing around corners, and listening for enemies sneaking up behind you. If you play any FPS what so ever, CoD, CS:S, or even L4D and are considering these, don't think - buy.
Sennheiser is the only brand of headset I use today. They are superior in terms of audio and microphone quality. Want to have the clearest mic on Vent/TS or even in VOIP? Sennheiser is the only way to go.
It feels super comfortable as well. Not too loose yet, not too tight. Everyone's head is different, but unless your head is smaller than an average teen or adult it should feel just as nice on your head as it did mine with adjustments.
The adapter works great, and so does this headset.
- Cons: Price. In September, 2007 I bought the very same headset from Newegg for $86.99 USD. Plus it came with it's own adapter. If the price didn't go up so much, I would bought another.
To replace my PC166, I bought the PC350 for roughly $40 USD more. I have yet to receive it yet.
- Other Thoughts: Other brands such as Logitech, Razer, Plantronics, or Creative headsets tend to break down in a hearbeat. I've returned multiple headsets to each of these companies. They make other great products, but as for headsets and headphones, Sennheiser is a path no-one should be disappointed in.
I've sat, stepped, dropped, and tugged on the cable hundreds of times in it's lifespan of three loyal trouble free years. What finally did her in, you ask? Unfortunately I was vacuuming with the Dyson, and slightly went over the cord which was on the carpet. Cord got spooled up in a blink of the eye ripping it from the headset.
Did I mention how well built Dysons are? :p
- Pros: Sounded good
- Cons: The volume switch on cord is delicate, I wouldn't expect these headphones to last very long. (mine didn't).
Basic headset in fancy package
- Pros: USB sound card works. Sound is decent.
- Cons: Low sound quality-to-price ratio. Uncomfortable if you wear glasses. Hard foam ear pads.
- Other Thoughts: Don’t be fooled by reports of phenomenal sound quality. These headphones don’t sound bad, but they’re definitely not worth what I paid. Sound is somewhat muffled compared to mid and high-end headphones. The USB soundcard works well. IMHO the Sennheiser PC166 are basic headphones in a pretty-package. I have an older pair of basic over-ear headphones that sound just as good but are much more comfortable.
