Are you tired of going home and putting an ice pack on your wrist or elbow after a long day with your mouse? Do you suffer from "mouse shoulder" because of how you have to arrange your arm to run a typical mouse? Evoluent has an answer! The VerticalMouse 3 is the latest generation from the inventors of the handshake grip mouse!

Evaluated by medical doctors, physical therapists, ergonomists and others at a university health services clinic, it's the only vertical mouse approved for use at UC Berkeley and for sale in the campus store. The shape supports your hand in an upright position that eliminates the "twist" in the forearm you must make when using a regular mouse. Many users reported that earlier models relieved hand, wrist and arm pain.

All they've really done is turned your regular mouse on its side, complete with all your regular buttons (and a couple more). The pointer control is just as accurate as a regular laser mouse, and it's designed to keep the side of your hand and your little finger from getting irritated from rubbing on your desk. This mouse is carefully designed to be comfortable for hours on end . . . even if the rest of you gets tired! Try one for yourself and see! Evoluent has created something quite special!

  • newegg Ergonomic Vertical Grip With a vertical shape, the Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 supports your hand in a fully upright handshake position to eliminate forearm twisting for relieved wrist and arm pain during extended use.
  • newegg Sensitivity Switching The Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 provides one-touch switching among four sensitivity levels (800 DPI, 1300DPI, 1800DPI and 2600DPI) for use in different applications from pixel-precise targeting to fast-twitch maneuvers.
  • newegg Programmable Buttons The Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 features five fully programmable buttons for easy access to your frequently used programs.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best for carpal tunnel

Pros: I am an intensive PC user and have used the Evoluent vertical mouse for years now. It truly relieves pains in hand and wrist when you're suffering from carpal. Extremely easy to get used to, takes about only half an hour. Very precise. Absolutely worth every penny.

Cons: Little harder to get used to when playing games.

5 out of 5 eggsInnovative and comfortable!

Pros: -Reduces wrist fatigue and pain
-Precise
-Easily customizable DPI toggle on bottom of mouse (2600, 1800, 1300, 800)
-Comfortable
-Easy to get used to
-Buttons are customizable with free software (X-Mouse, as recommended per Evoluent website)

Cons: -Button customization software did not come with CD (at least this is the case when installing on Windows 7, perhaps it is installed with XP or Vista)
-Expensive (but surgery/therapy is even more so)

Other Thoughts: I recently started a programming course at my university and noticed stiffness and pain appearing in the wrist of my mouse-hand. It got really worrisome when my fingers started tingling. I was in no mood to pick up carpal tunnel at what might be the start of a career in computers, so I came to newegg and found this mouse recommended under their office ergonomics promotion. An absolutely terrific investment; I've noticed a steady decrease in stiffness and the pain has all but gone away. I purchased this early on before I developed advanced symptoms but I feel confident that even those who have carpal tunnel already would greatly benefit from this device (and other reviews seem to testify to this too).

I would also highly recommend downloading an anti-RSI software which forces users to take breaks from the computer. The break times are usually customizable and free software is available for both Windows and Mac. Just google "anti-rsi Windows" or "anti-rsi mac".

3 out of 5 eggsGood except scrolling

Pros: The ergonomics are fabulous; I credit this mouse for ending my wrist and arm discomfort. As a side benefit, the design scares my coworkers out of trying to use my computer.

Cons: The scroll wheel! After several months the rubber pad on the scroll wheel starts to slip when you try to scroll slow, as in scrolling a document or web page as you're reading.

Other Thoughts: If not for the scrolling problem I would have given this 5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsgood for injury prevention

Pros: I broke my arm as a child and it is slightly warped, as such i have had difficulty flattening out my hand to hold a standard mouse. This mouse does a good job at varying your movement for people flirting with repetitive strain injuries.
quality built product.

Cons: The mouses tracking is not all that impressive to me. It is essentialy unuseable in games. I also have reservations about recommending it for programs that involve art or design.

For word processing and email etc it is more than sufficient.

Other Thoughts: It is rather large. I am male and have average length hands however my hands are wider than average (when i make a fist it is often considerably larger than most) i found this mouse reasonably easy to hold. someone with smaller sized hands may want to peruse other offerings( i know zalman made a gun style upright trigger mouse at one point and there was also a vertical mouse made by i believe 3m both of which may be better options for those with smaller hands.

4 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Satisfied

Pros: The design is very good, exactly what I'm looking for to relive the pain in my wrist. It did not take me long to get used to using it. This is the 2nd mouse I bought, the first one works really well, so I bought the 2nd one, but here is the problem....

Cons: The scrolling wheel on the 2nd mouse I ordered did not work as well as the first one I ordered (from another site 6 months or 1 year ago). The scrolling wheel sometimes does not respond, you have to scroll the wheel very slow to make it work. But this never happened to the first one.

Other Thoughts: Overall a good design, recommended to my colleagues too.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful mouse

Pros: Very ergonomic. After hours of constant mousing, no pain. Easy plug and play. 4 settings on the mouse for sensitivity.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I picked this mouse for my company to buy after an ergonomic injury that I am still recovering from(tendon injured). I injured a couple of tendons on the side of my wrist 8 months ago and using a normal mouse hurts. Using this mouse doesn't hurt at all. Worth the money.

2 out of 5 eggsCompared with original white

Pros: Looks nicer than original. Has a builtin "rocker".

Cons: - Smaller than the original.
- Tracking is *really* bad compared to previous model.

Other Thoughts: I had an original evoluent. The USB cable went bad so I decided to order this one. I can't get this mouse to track in a straight line. Using the same (realy cheap) mouse pad as previous the mouse seems to be senstive to the line pattern on the mouse pad. I have a verneered desk, same problem with the grain. I've been using a paper pad where the problem isn't so bad, am trying a manila folder, the surface is not pleasant to work with.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, Needs getting used to

Pros: Really comfortable to use.
DPI setting at the bottom has settings from 800-2600
Great value with the bundled mouse pad from Belkin

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not meant for kids or people with small hands
May need a good mousepad with Gel wrist to raise your wrist for extended use. (I got one free when i purchased this mouse).

5 out of 5 eggsSaved my right hand

Pros: I've had shooting pains in my right "mousing" hand for years now. I currently work as a PC Tech and was an AutoCAD drafter early on in my career. Consequently, I've literally spent years of my life with a mouse in my right hand.

I've tried tons of different ergonomic mice, as well as trackball mice, but nothing seemed to help for very long. I knew I had to find a new mouse when I tried to fill out a Fed-EX Airbill by hand and the pains in my hand were so intense that I had to stop and massage my palm three times before finishing.

I was skeptical about the Evoluent mouse but it seemed to be my last option. And I have to say, I wish I had tried this mouse years ago! I received it on a Friday evening so I spent an entire weekend limiting my computer usage and then plugged it in on Monday morning. I literally have not had a pain in my right hand since.

Cons: I had difficulty reprogramming the buttons to my liking with the included mouse drive. I was able to do so using X-Mouse Button Control software so it wasn't much of an issue. Would have been better if it worked out of the box, though.

5 out of 5 eggsNo more pain!

Pros: Easy to adapt to
Immediately feels great on wrist/arm

Cons: No Windows 7 drivers, reducing functionality
Wired
Pretty big

Other Thoughts: I work all day on a computer, then come home and run two online business so I mouse a lot (understatement!). I knew I needed to get a different type of mouse than my wireless Logetech, but had no idea what to buy. After lots of research, I chose the Evoluent. I am so happy I did. It is terrific. I am going to buy a wireless for home and take the wired version to the office. Highly recommend!!!
