4 out of 5 eggsCool looking and well built

Pros: Really good construction quality. Solidly made headset. Very aviation-esque with a great mic boom. Little bit of extra immersion for flight sims :) Good mic quality as told by my friends listening on Skype and Steam. Headband is steel with a stitched leatherette cushion. Material on the ears is leatherette over memory foam and is fairly comfortable for long wear with glasses but I wouldn't say amazing. Sound isolation is pretty decent as well. Sound quality is a little mixed but mostly good enough with some basic EQ. Read below.

Cons: Very skinny cord. This is a little worrying on such an otherwise well-built product. Baby it though, and it should be okay for a long time. With stouter wiring it would be a better product, and I can't imagine it would hurt audio quality either. Sound is bad in default configuration. Very bass-heavy to the point of slight distortion and listening fatigue at high volume. Awful quality. Closed back headphones so they have a very "in your head" feeling, highlighting the distorting bass. The sound is salvageable though. Read below.

Other Thoughts: -4 to -6 Bass on my Yamaha RX-V663 receiver's headphone amp shows a different side of these. They can go much higher without distortion, and are far less fatiguing to listen to. Some kind of EQ is almost essential with these headphones. My Creative Fatal1ty analog headset for $50 were nearly comparable in sound quality and a bit better balanced. They had tighter bass but less bass extension. These headphones are admittedly more detailed and powerful, but the "Hi-Fi" quality their looks and price suggest just isn't there. A REAL pair of entry-level audiophile cans can be had for not a whole lot more. $130-180 gets your foot solidly in the door. If you can get these for less than $100 and absolutely need the headset mic/don't want a separate one, they work pretty good and they look great doing it. I do everything from most genres of gaming to movies and of course music. Fleetwood Mac, Wishbone Ash, Lamb of G**, LazerHawk, Daft Punk, Megadeth. These headphones get the job done for everything I listen to or play. I've listened to a lot of high bitrate digital music on them as well and they are good enough to notice the difference in dynamic range and detail from different masterings easily. Most people looking for a solid headset with good construction quality would like them. For music and movies, I'll be replacing them with a pair of Sennheiser HD598 SEs. They'll hang around for other uses as they are very cool. Mine were purchased at a brick and mortar by the way. If I hadn't had a gift card they would have come from Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I Hoped For

Pros: - Great Sound
- Good Microphone
- Extremely Comfortable
- Amazing Sound Insulation
- Solid, Metal Construction
- Nice design

Cons: - Expensive for only being a stereo headset
- Mic boom filler piece doesn't fit perfectly, see below for explanation
- No inline control, but I'm fine without one
- Tricky packaging

Other Thoughts: I'm going to start out this review being completely honest. You are either interested in this headset or you aren't. For the money there are probably many other headsets that gaming wise do a much better job because they are 5.1 or even 7.1 for a similar price. Razer themselves even have headsets with 5.1 or 7.1 surround for a comparable price. You are going to buy this headset for one reason and one reason only, it looks like it came straight from the Air Force and landed on your front door step. But luckily Razer realized they had to make this headset worth while for it's price, so they packed it with some other goodies.

The sound is very good. I'm by no means an audiophile, I kinda wish I was, but I just don't have the ears for it. But I will tell you that I can hear everything with these things. Even at a very low volume everything comes through clear and clean. It would have been nice to have 5.1 or 7.1 surround, but I guess that would have also meant it couldn't use a standard 3.5mm jack, and I like using this on my computer, phone, and Xbox, so give and take. You do get a code for a free copy of Razer's surround sound adapter program thing, but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment on that.

The microphone is pretty dang impressive. Of course it's hard to know how realistic accurate it is real life by your own measure without having heard yourself with professional-ish recording equipment, but during a Skype call a friend said it was "quite realistic". So there you go. Well done Razer. Having the mic boom be easily detachable is nice for taking these on the go, however you get a very nicely made solid metal piece with a nice weight to it to fill in the spot where the boom would go, which matches the rest of the headset, unfortunately it has a loose fit. Now I haven't have it fall out, and most of time I don't even think about it, but for such a pricey piece of kit I would have liked to see a better fitting piece.

It's very comfortable. The nicely padded leather is very comfortable, and because the main construction of the headset is metal, you can set it exactly where you want, rather than presets in the molding that may be a bit to tight or a bit to loose. With these you can set them and forget them. I've actually fallen asleep with these one only to wake up in the morning to find I still have them one, because I completely forget they are on. You just forget they are there. Along the same lines, the sound insulation is top notch. If you don't have anything playing you can still hear some stuff around you, but once you have any sound it just transports you to a different world. Sometime people come home and I don't even realize it. Exceptional. I work in a rather high stress job, and on my breaks I pop these on and listen to some music and after 15 minutes of being in my own world I feel great and relaxed again.

Speaking of the metal construction. It's solid. I've been using this headset almost every day since I got it, for hours on end, which has been about a month now, and have yet to see any signs that it has changed since I took it out of the book. It feels as strong and as sturdy as it did the day it arrived, and I have high hopes that it should last me a very long time before it breaks or even begins to loosen up.

As far as design goes, it really is one of a rare breed, and honestly most of the reason I bought it. As I said at the start of this review, there are probably other headsets for the money that are better, but at the end of the day you should buy what speaks to you, and this headset spoke volumes to me. I personally love it for its simple, refined style. It's not very aggressive, but man is it beautiful. I really feel like a pilot getting ready to drop some napalm in the morning whenever I put it on and bring the mic down. While most other gaming headsets these days, and headsets in general, try to be over the top with their design with aggressive lines and bulky size, this one isn't afraid to be simple and smooth, resembling an older time in headset choice. It has beautiful functionality, with little excess.

If you're looking for something different, if you're looking for something functional and beautiful, you need look no further. But you already know if you want this or not, and in the end, it's that voice in the back of your heading telling you to do it you are going to listen to. Trust me, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Loved and Still Alive

Pros: Bass is great, reaches anywhere with the adapter and I love the design. It's durable to the point where I'm pretty sure they've been stepped on several times and haven't been broken. The mic boom doesn't interfere with anything nor get in my field of view and my friends love the mic quality. It's also COMFORTABLE. I fell asleep and in the morning, they still weren't uncomfortable, but that may be pushing it a bit too far. I happen to hate in-line volume control n' stuff like that, so that was a big plus for me. It stuck well on my head and being able to adjust it and leave it was new.

Cons: Wish the cord was at least braided. I would've paid an extra ten bucks just for that since bunnies love the cable. I've had to replace my headset because they chewed through the cable. They don't like braided stuff, though, and it would also make less stuff collect to the cable. It doesn't interfere with anything, but small pieces keep falling off and getting lost (The small plastic things that hold cords to the headset, the mic cover.). Otherwise, I can't bring myself to hate anything else on the headset.

Other Thoughts: Small dining sounds from a few metal pieces that prevent the cups from rotating 180 degrees. Stick a piece of paper in there or something thicker and they don't do it anymore. KEEP AWAY FROM RODENTS THAT LIKE TO CHEW ON THINGS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Firstly, this is my first review I've ever done on newegg after years and thousands of dollars spent. I mainly chose this headset because I will admit I am a Razer fanboy. I have had many other brands of headsets including Razer in the past and they just couldn't last. So this time I went looking for something a little more durable.. something.. metal. Out of the ones I game across this one had the best price and met the standards I was looking for.

The packaging was pretty sweet. Once out of the box I adjusted them to my head. The adjusters have to be loosened to make fit, which is awesome because I was always have to readjust my old ones. Once you tighten them back up, they will NOT move. So after getting them adjusted I put them on and tested some bass intensive songs to try them out. Really impressed with the sound quality. The mic was also really clean, very very very minimal white noise. I also noticed that once you put these on all sound that was going on around you no longer exists. My house was quiet at the time so I didn't notice until I realized my wife was yelling at me. Primary reason these are getting 5 eggs!

Cons: No inline volume control can get annoying but that's the part I broke on my last Razer headset and the reason I had to get a new one. So it might save me in the long run.

Other Thoughts: If you move your head from shoulder to shoulder you can head a slight tink noise. It's the stop that keeps the headphones from fully rotating around full circle. Just something to consider. Price is well worth it in my opinion. If you don't buy this headset, at least buy something well built and preferably metal.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Headset

Pros: all in a run on sentence these headphones are great had them for over a year now and still working like if i just unboxed them i mainly got them because they are made of metal which is stronger and less chance of cracking and eventually snapping like the previous headphones i owned, another plus is that it doesn't have an inline voice control and the reason why i say that is that where the inline control is the cable bends at the joint causing it to eventually cause the line to break *happened to me*.The mic is great, the option to detach is a plus overall these headphones are perfect.

Cons: non,but since its been a year, one of the ear cups leather lining has opened up at the seam so the memory foam/cushion is exposed but not affecting me negatively

5 out of 5 eggsgreat design

Pros: I bit the bullet on these because I thought they looked amazing. The design compliments all the basic features of a headset and executes with solid construction consisting of a lot of metal. I was a bit worried the cord might be a bit fragile, but it is a bit thicker than I thought it would be. If you treat it properly I don't see it becoming a problem. The support for the mic allows you to place it exactly where you want it and reasonably protects it as well.

Overall, the helicopter headset design looks amazing in a black/silver/green colorway. The sound quality is great for gaming and I have no complaints in that department.

Cons: No in-line volume adjuster, but not that big of a deal. I'd prefer a straight line to my jack anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsRazer BlackShark

Pros: Comfortable,
Noise cancelling,
Adjustable,
Can be used as a computer headset or unplugged from the splitter and Used with my ipod,
Removable mic,
Awesome design!
I don't even feel this headset on once I adjusted to my head it has the most adjustment I've used so far, I can game for hours and my headset doesn't smash my ears.
Very well made.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is the short cord but it's not really short my box is on the floor so that's part of it

Other Thoughts: I think this is the best headset I've had so far, I had driver issues with usb headset before and that steered me away from them, when I'm gaming I want as little running in the background as possible as bugs do seem to occur from sound drivers and games.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Great sound, though I'm not an audiophile so take that with a grain of salt.

Detachable mic is nice, the build quality is outstanding. Mic sounds good too.

I've had it for awhile now and it still looks new out of the box, so the quality is supreme in my opinion.

COMFY! I wear this thing for 4-8 hours and I only get slight discomfort in that amount of time, and I mean SLIGHT.

It does what it's intended to do, good sound in games, and even better sound for music. *note this not a 5.1 or 7.1 channel headset but it works well either way*

Cons: The one gripe I have about this headset is the cord. Some people say it's too short, but I don't have such issues. My only concern is the quality of the cord, it's rubberized, and feels high quality, but I regularly find myself looking down making sure my chair doesn't roll over the cord, because I don't want it to get damaged.

Other Thoughts: You might think there's better headsets out there for the money, and that this is overpriced for what you're getting. This may or may not be true, but going over the pros once again, this has great build quality, good input/output, is very comfortable and practical, and it looks cool. If you care about that sort of stuff, then you get what you pay for.
