4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nothing comes close to increasing your CAD productivity like a 3D mouse. 3Dconnexion pretty much owns the market. This little guy is easy to transport, It's also got enough weight to stay seated on your desk.

Cons: Needed to update with firmware that wasn't available on their site. I had to contact tech support to get it. Prior to the update, I could not leave it plugged into my PC when booting up or it would seriously hangup the PC for a while. I'd be forced to unplug it prior to boot, and then plug it back in once windows loaded. Driver loads oddly with Autodesk Inventor occasionally requiring me to restart the app again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent in CAD

Pros: These mice are highly adaptable to your specific taste. The two we use at work are both set up differently to best suit their own user's taste.

Cons: None really. I wish I had gotten the wireless one, but I will probably go with one of the larger ones with the hotkeys.

Other Thoughts: These are really fantastic in both Autodesk Inventor and Ansys, although the controls are slightly different between the two. I purchased two of these mice for two different workstations. We plan on getting more in the future for different stations as well.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product, Good Support

Pros: Heavy, Stays Put. Extremely responsive. Configurable. Long cord. Cool blue light.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: We use these standard on all CAD stations now. They work well with Inventor and Electrical (AutoCAD)
Thought we had an issue witht he forst one, called support. Very helpful. Turned out to be a USB problem on the Toshiba Laptop we were using. They even send a replacement unit without collateral.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Product

Pros: This is a solid little piece of hardware. The metal base is sturdy, and it stays where it should on the desk as you use it. Effort for use is minimal. It is compatible with most of the software that I use and functions exceptionally.

Cons: (not really a con)
Sometimes my browser will be acting up and scrolling on its own. I have since discovered that something as small as an envelope touching this device will activate it. Make sure your desk is clean!

1 out of 5 eggsBad Customer Service

Pros: Nonworking

Cons: Won't turn on

Other Thoughts: I used a ton of 3Dconnexion products at work, but we all use the same PC configuration leading to no issues at all from the spaceballs. I bought one from home to use on my new Windows 7 machine and the device is not recognized even with the latest drivers.

My big gripe is the lack of response from 3Dconnexion when I've attempted to contact them 2 different times. I've read online about a firmware update, but without a response from the vendor, I don't have any way to get it.

Hoping its bad hardware and attempting a replacement before refund.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Allows me to move around a 3d object while still making adjustments to the mesh.

Works like a charm once set up and works even better with the beta drivers that allow you to customize every single motion.

Useful in 2d applications as a hotkey shortcut as well.

One of the most useful tools I have used in a long time. Besides my Wacom tablet this is the second best purchase I have made for my 3d modeling.

Cons: Needed a firmware update to work right and it wasn't mentioned any were in the instructions or one their website. I called customer service and they were well aware that many units that have the old firmware still on it will not work with 64 bit systems until firmware is updated. The worst part is you can't even get this firmware on their site, you have to call and complain and then they will email it to you. I got mine for Christmas from Newegg so it wasn't like I ordered this thing 2 years ago. Anyone working in 3d more than likely will be on a 64 bit OS so this really bothered me. They do have a fix and it worked perfect once applied but the hunt for it was frustrating so as a warning if yours doesn't act right call customer support right away for the firmware update.

Other Thoughts: It's actually fun to use. It is vital that you take the time to set up the controls in the 3d connexion software to behave how you like them. Without customizing the sensitivity and control behavior you will hate this thing. Once I got it customized to my liking it only took about 30 minutes to get used to and I was off like I had been using it all my life. If your a designer of any type you won't regret this purchase, well maybe you might regret not getting one of the step up models.

5 out of 5 eggsVERY POWERFUL TOOL

Pros: If you work with CAD programs all day like I do, this is quite possibly the most powerful tool you can get your hands on for increasing productivity!

Cons: -learning curve, but this is to be expected with anything

Other Thoughts: I took this item to work on monday morning and hooked it up. By Tuesday at noon I had become fairly proficient with this 3D device and was wowing co-workers.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: This 3d mouse is absolutely amazing. I work with FeatureCAM, GeoMagic, MasterCAM and Solid Works and this little thing has increased my programing speed like crazy.

The buttons aren't a problem for me. You have to press them in and up (if that makes sense) I use them all the time to macro common commands.

It is heavy enough to not scoot around my desk when I am really into my projects.

Cons: Zero cons that I have found

Other Thoughts: Would be neat to change LED colors, but it would be a nicety.

Great Product!!

2 out of 5 eggsCareful it may get discontinued!

Pros: - Works like it should, like the older version did...

Cons: This company is quick to discontinue support/drivers for there products only to replace them with identical models. I had a spacetraveler3 that worked fine but was forced (my company really) to buy a new one because there were no drivers! No feature improvements, same product! Greedy company! Look at there forum, don't take my word for it! Buyer beware!
