4 out of 5 eggsDrivers and more

Pros: Once I've figured out how it worked, well, it works. Ownership 2 hours. Smaller, mostly comfortable. I don't feel like my hand is wrestling with a big bar of soap. It worked right out of the box (in basic, non-configurable default mode). I don't know how long it will last yet, but until that time, I'll use it.

Cons: (Solutions in "Other thoughts".) No driver, no instructions, no info (not even online). I couldn't set the buttons, so, scroll-wheel-button did nothing for me (I use it for dbl-click). Rapid fire _seemed_ to do nothing. After about 2 minutes, left-click started acting like dbl-click. Front buttons (Res, RapidFire, and Forward) are all a little too 'forward' for quick, comfortable use. Basically all the complaints and problems listed in all the comments I'd read before ordering.

Other Thoughts: I'm on a WinXP machine, other versions may be different.

I used the "HID-compliant mouse" standard mouse driver (chosen by default).

Next, I downloaded and installed "X-Mouse Button Control". Okay, I was getting frustrated, but after trying several things, I finally found this solution. This will give you complete control over your 5-button (that's what it really is) mouse. Buttons are: Left, Right, Middle (scroll wheel), Forward, and Back. X-mouse Button Control will let you change-set them all. It also allows "multiple layers", where each layer can be a configuration (like, used in a specific game or whatever I believe).

Last, understand that your last 2 "buttons" aren't buttons, they are "switches". Resolution toggles the mouse's resolution, as can be seen in the LED lights. And Rapid Fire toggles the behavior of the Left Mouse Button from single-click to double-click. It may be multiple click, but I haven't used it in any game to test and see. For me it 'double-click'ed desktop icons and launched them. No visual on the Rapid Fire setting, so you have to tell by the operation of the Left Button. At least it's out of the way enough to not be hit by accident often (for me).

Also, as I've only owned it for 2 hours, I haven't hooked it up and tested it on my Ubuntu 14.04 machine (Linux) yet.

All in all, especially for the price, it seems like a pretty good short-termed investment. If it lasts a year or more I'll be quite pleased. I'm not hard on stuff, so it could easily last that long.

5 out of 5 eggstough long lasting mouse

Pros: This mouse has been in use on a daily basis since 11/12. That is 2 years without a hitch. It has been knocked off my desk and banged around a bit and it still keeps going.

Cons: Every now and then I must push the wrong button. Not being much of a techie-- I just unplug it and plug it back in to re-set it.

Other Thoughts: I like this mouse so much I decided to get a spare so that if and when this one dies, I have a new one just like it. I am afraid they may quit making it. Planned obsolescence.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy this Junk

Pros: There is absolutely not one Pro remark which can be said about this mouse.

Cons: This is a no egg item, however the review site made me give it one to post the review. I have had it less than 3 hours of use today, it started out working, little by little it has lost use of just about every function. I can't even right click and drag a screen over, I can't open up a file from my task bar, I mean it is horrible. I can't highlight more than one word to copy and paste, I will have to switch to old mouse to finish this review.

1 out of 5 eggsThis mouse was a big disappointment

Pros: Price

Cons: Cheaply made
No manual or software
7 buttons are not programmable
No "Auto-fire" as advertised
Button placement is also poor

Other Thoughts: As others have said, the mouse is cheaply made, but then it gets worse. There was no manual or software in the package or at the manufacturer's site. As far as I can tell the 7 buttons are not programmable which pretty much makes them useless for gaming and just about anything else. The "Auto-fire" is nothing but a double click. No more than two with no programming at all. The button placement is also poor, but since the buttons are useless anyway, that doesn't much matter. All in all, a BAD purchase.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsyou get what you pay for

Pros: Affordable. DPI button is nice if you care about that sort of thing.

Cons: You get what you pay for. After about 7 months of daily use, the wheel likes to randomly stop working, sometimes the wheel doesn't scroll (it spins and nothing happens), and the left button has started to stick for long periods of time. Autofire button placement is also annoying, and the forward/backward buttons were mapped backwards on the mouse I received. The plastic covers are also coming off.

Other Thoughts: It is very cheap, so I didn't expect it to last very long. It is comfortable to use, but I have pretty small hands for an adult (about 6" from palm to fingertip). The scroll wheel started acting funny after about 4 months.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Zalman Product--Impressed!

Pros: This mouse does the trick.
DPI button w/ red LED indicator
Back and forward buttons
Scroll wheel feels unique
Auto-fire button if that's your thing

Great for entry level gamer or someone on a budget

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For $17 you can't really complain, the features make up for something such as weight which is still decent.

1 out of 5 eggsIt's OK for price anything higher it is garbage

Pros: The only thing that works is the DPI switch and the two side buttons.

Cons: It's more like a 5 button mouse since the two buttons under left and right are considered left and right and cannot be remapped.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsShort life

Pros: I just bought it for the price and buttons on the side.

Cons: Cheap feel, autofire sucks, stopped working a few months ago.

Other Thoughts: I think I paid around $12 for the mouse, so I didn't expect much.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's good

Pros: Even thought it's an ambidextrous mouse it still feels more comfortable than the previous mouse I had. The plastic mixed with the no slip/soft touch is kinda weird, but ok. The dpi button is solid as are the others and does what it's supposed to do quickly and effortlessly.

Cons: The mouse buttons were so close together that when I left clicked, sometimes the right button would click also. Had to shave the space so that they could move freely from each other. The thumb buttons are a bit far back since I have long fingers, but a large mouse would be too much and I didn't have that kind of cash.

Other Thoughts: Overall everything seems solid thus far. The buttons work, no ghosting, the dpi switch doesn't change on it's own, tracking is beautiful. Overall I like it. I'll come back in a couple weeks or months for an update.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Great mouse, looks nice, Dpi switch is nice to have, works very good for me in games

Cons: the auto fire button can be a pain at times wish the location of the button was not on the left mouse button.

Other Thoughts: Overall very nice mouse for the money
