2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great sound quality and very comfortable

Cons: Detachable microphone doesn't work half the time, it requires constant adjustment and can randomly stop working.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing headset

Pros: I have a couple very high end reference headphones from my audiophile phase, and while this headset doesn't compare in terms of sheer audio clarity, it has great sound. Very prominant bass, clear and warm sound. I can listen to music, movies, and game with it. It's amazing.

This headset is ridiculously comfortable. It has no set adjustments, and hugs your head as soon as you put it on. Amazing design.

The mic is great.

Cons: The only con is that I drink a lot of soda and so some spots on the rather long cord are a tad sticky. Hasn't happened with my other headsets.

Other Thoughts: This headset is amazing. I have a thermaltake headset, an Ozone one, a steelseries one, a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880s, and a large variety of other headphones and headsets, and this one is by far my favorite. You won't be doing yourself a disservice by buying this. I use it daily for 2-8 hours for the past five months and have not been disappointed for a minute.

3 out of 5 eggsconstruction and amp vs power and play

Pros: I love the sound of the these headsets in terms of versatility with respect to gaming and music. Turtle beach really nailed that part of the equation. I own 2 of these, both of which were bought on sale from newegg. Directional targeting is very good, and music on these can blast your ears which is very nice if you like it loud.

Cons: The amp problem: to understand this you have to know that there are 2 versions of the HPA2's technically but they are same model and UPC code. The old version had a true powered amp that plugged into your power strip with your computer. This version was by definition more clunky because of the extra added power brick, however i've yet to have the ear screeching/high pitch squeal on the those ever, though with age its starting to get more pops and hisses. The newer version is more portable for lan's etc because it simply uses USB plugs for its power (please keep in mind the headphones are exactly the same for both version only the amp itselft varies). This version by default carries a know bug of the high pitch squeal (which is very painful and annoying i might add). This can be mitigated by turning the computer volume to half and pushing all the amp setting i.e. surround, center, etc to full and even then the squeal after long periods can still occur.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to give this headset 4-5 eggs if your talking about the old revision which i don't think you can find anymore, i would give it 5 eggs but since the revision 2 is all that is out there now i have to give it 3. Still these are some of the best 5.1 headsets for the money (true 5.1 headsets are getting harder to find). I also owned the psyko 5.1 headsets for comparison. For pure direction targeting in gaming the psykos are better, but only by the smallest margins IMHO. If you factor in the cost delta and the added ability of the HPA2's to play music well with regard to base, the HPA2's are by far a better deal. I'm hoping the amp issue can be solved by TB in future. This headset/UPC is do for a complete reboot, unfortunately thanks to console PC gaming just doesn't seem to have the profits margins these companies want. On a personal note, I would love to see someone's review of the HPA's compare to the sharkoon xtatic digital. I'm hoping neweggs starts selling them

4 out of 5 eggsSecond time around

Pros: -Headset is in great condition after replacement
-Turtle Beach went out of their way to replace the headset even though it was a few months out of warranty
-Great customer service from the reps I contacted
-Regardless of the fact that one set broke (and face it, as you find out over building a few PC's, stuff breaks or can be defective no matter how good the company), it's still a good headset, comfortable to use, and the sound/mic quality are pretty nice. I would still recommend this model.

Cons: -Stinks that they broke in the first place
-Had to go without a good headset for over three weeks while they tested and sent out a replacement, but I can't complain with a free replacement!

Other Thoughts: This is a followup to an earlier review where I detailed how the headset's internal wiring went bad, killing my microphone. (the detachable mic worked fine plugged directly into the PC, but its wiring inside the headset stopped the signal and made it unusable)

If you need your headset looked at, it's very easy. Go into the support section of their site, click Ask a Question, fill out the subject line, then click through to fill out a detailed form. For the "proof of purchase," I simply screenshotted the conformation of my order right here on Newegg.
I was contacted by a rep shortly afterward, who gave me the green light to send in my headset for inspection.

Do remember if you have to RMA something, they have very specific instructions to follow regarding packaging and labeling. Also cleaning a headset if it's seen a lot of use (no techie wants to wear a grimy hair-filled headset). Make sure you follow these and it should go smoothly.
Hope this is helpful to someone!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat, but not the best

Pros: -INCREDIBLE sound. I actually use these over my 2.1 system because the sound is actually better in pretty much every metric. Just wonderful, wonderful sound.
-Adjustable mic.

Cons: -Cord is fairly short for my setup(has to go from my tower, behind my desk, and around to my chair.)
-Ear cups are too "springy" and end up being uncomfortable for prolonged use. Ear cups are shallow, compress my big ears.
-Amplifier is placed at an awkward location in regards to my setup, too far down the cord to rest on my lap, too far up to rest on the floor.
-Microphone jack was non-functioning when I recieved the headset. RMA'd, and now is working fine. No points removed for this, as defects happen, but felt it was salient to a review.

Other Thoughts: Despite the negatives, I give it 4 eggs because I can't really explain how fantastic the sound is without using expletives. Obviously, I dropped a substantial amount of money on a good headset, and this doesn't fail me in that standard. It has some flaws. But unless youre willing to drop twice the amount of dollars on a headset, I feel this is the best sound youll get out of a headset.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best Surround Headphones!

Pros: Four 3.5mm Analog Plugs, with outs, so you can run inline with your existing 5.1 speakers.

Surround sound so good its Scary! You will hear enemies trying to sneak up behind you while gaming.

Quick Disconnect Headset and Mic, and Blue LED volume control device/level adjustment.

Cons: None Here.

Other Thoughts: Buy these as soon as they are in stock. Can't beat price/value.

5 out of 5 eggsHear the action

Pros: Seconded set of these, great sound, you can still hear someone call for you, a great gaming headset, USB powered.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish they made a wireless set for PC's.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good microphone. Suspension-type headband works well and fits my large head without stretching all the way.

Cons: Surround sound headphones are a gimmick, I spent more time fiddling with the levels than playing the game and didn't notice an improvement afterwards. Crushes my ears after a short time.

Other Thoughts: Eventually I gave up and hung the headset around my neck just to use the microphone, and used my listening cans for sound instead.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Headphones, at first.

Pros: Sound is spectacular
Love being able to have such control over the sound output
Mic is clear and easy for people to hear me on
Love being able to remove the mic when not needed
Very comfortable for up to 4hrs at a time

Cons: Gets a bit uncomfortable after those long gaming sessions
Some minor cracks in the plastic over the last year with no big issue.

The only reason I am giving this headset a 2 is because of the issues that only happened recently:
The right speaker on my headphones came completely dislodged from the headset, breaking free of all 3 posts that held it to the plastic cover. Would just RMA, except for the fact that I have now had these for 16 months and is no longer under warranty.

Other Thoughts: I will admit that despite the damage they still work well however there is no method that I can think of that would allow me to repair them to the point that I can continue using them.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Bang For your Buck

Pros: Good Sound, Comfortable, easy to configure

Cons: Not very well Manufacturing process, they will start to fall apart after one year, I had to contact them the with in the first year to replace microphone

Other Thoughts: good for entry amateur competitive gaming will really help you adapt to 5.1 sound with out empty pockets
