1 out of 5 eggsIt had amazing potential

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: Big Mouse: this is a pro because I have big hands and have what is called a "palm grip". I can't stand other mice where I have to arch my hand in a certain position for long periods of time for "optimum performance".

Adjustable Weight: The adjustable weight on the mouse is super nice; being able to control that allows for a level of control that you can't find in other mice. Keep in mind that this is a metal mouse, so by nature it will be heavier than any plastic mouse out there; even with the weights pulled off.

Adjustable Length: That's right, this mouse features the ability to increase in length to fit even the longest of hands with comfort and ease. Just press in the buttons on the side of the mouse and pull back with your other hand.

Long Braided Cord: Pretty self explanatory. The cord is a great length, very flexible and best of all braided, so there is very little risk of it accidently bending or breaking in a random place due to placement.

Comfort: When I first put my hand on this mouse it was like a dream come true. It fit all the contours of my hand perfectly; I didn't even have to adjust the length of the mouse!

Programmable: You can set three different layouts to this mouse with the drivers that come with it. It's great if you switch between MMO's, FPS's and RTS's frequently. Even if you just like browsing the web the design for this mouse allows you to read through with no effort.

Cons: Now for the dreaded cons.

Every con I have for this mouse is superficial. It doesn't take away from the mouse at all and is more of a slight annoyance that you would only really notice if you like to be super clean. The material the mouse is made of really loves your skin. It absorbs the oils from it and makes it obvious where you're placing your hand. Nothing worth really worrying about considering how amazing this thing is.

However, I rated this mouse 1 egg. There is a reason for that and I know you're asking why. So here it is.

The reason for this amazing mouse getting 1 egg is not because I misclicked, but because my mouse is dead. Unfortunately, it died after 6 months of use. The sensor in the mouse suddenly stopped reading no matter what I did to it.

I am a fair man, however. This didn't make the mouse get 1 star by itself. It's possible I was too rough with it or I simply had a model that was defective. That's what I told myself.

However, I did research on the matter and unfortunately it is an issue in all of the R.A.T.5 mice out there and the company knows about it. The average life span of a R.A.T. model mouse is about 6 months to a year, more if you're lucky. The issue has to do with the souldering on the sensor that wears down with time. That means that this mouse, although amazing in every way, is a ticking time bomb waiting to die on you.

Other Thoughts: This is the most amazing mouse I have ever owned; but it's not worth buying again if it's just going to die on me within a year or a little more. It had so much potential, but bad engineering was the downfall of this mouse. I suggest looking elsewhere for a gaming mouse, unless you want to have a quick ride with the most amazing mouse I've ever owned before it dies.

2 out of 5 eggsbeware

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: looks cool
well built

Cons: HEAVY, HEAVY , HEAVY , HEAVY
Which makes it jerky and doesn't move well; almost useless to most gamers.
I've pulled all the weights out and the things still a beast. plus I'm a big guy 6'3" 240.
I'll get a Teflon mouse pad see if that helps
Maybe I'm just not use to a mostly metal mouse

3 out of 5 eggsGriff

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: match the mouse to ur playing style. lots of set up options overall a good feel. + or - weight if un like heavy or light mouse. braided cable. that about it. o ya u get a tin to but ur leftover parts in.

Cons: First off the position of the left and right clickers are a bit long so when u have to switch from the clikers to the wheel its a bit awkward because its too far back. Also the teflon pads dont slide like a high end mouse should they almost feel like they have a slight grip to them. yes a tried mutiple surfaces and I get the same result. also dont know if its a sofware conflict but thier where times I had the mouse sitting still and the curser would start moving verry slow on its own. thought I might of had debre in the lazer but couldent find any. also the thumb adjustmen would move a bit even after tightining it down. mabe thats me but when u in a fps battle and you tightin up on the mouse it could be anowing. plus the cord/lazer offset to me dosent seem like its in the center of the mouse, gues im just not use to it.

Other Thoughts: they relly need to make the mouse pads/feet better at sliding. I have a razer mamba now and its night and day diference on how it slides compared to the rat. also wasnt too impressed with the software glitching on the rat. if they improve on the software, get some better pads and center the cord and lazer this mouse would be epic. this is just my opinion dont take it to heart but for the price u pay ((well its up to u))

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: Adjustible

Cons: Buttons failed rather quickly, one of the thumb buttons failed after just 2 months and the right main button failed after less than a year

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another MadCatz product. Got this one in a combo deal with a keyboard and now I'm wishing I would have went with my gut and just got something else. For it being a gaming mouse I was shocked at how fast the buttons failed.

5 out of 5 eggsEPIC!

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: It has great weight to it and glides perfectly.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I don't game and I purchased this mouse because of it's aesthetics. With that being said, I still love the precision button because I use Corel Draw and the accuracy helps me get the line or shape right the first time.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Experince

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: Feels good and looks good

Cons: Does not work correctly and the worst customer service

Other Thoughts: I received this mouse as a gift from my wife. I have been using a Logitech MX510 mouse for close to eight years. Really solid mouse but is starting to be dated with all the new stuff out there. I saw this mouse at 2012 PAX East and thought it was pretty cool. Was excited when I received it. Hooked it up and everything worked great for the first few days. Then the mouse was acting oddly, as if I will holding down the right mouse button. This would happen on and off. The drivers started to cause conflicts with other drivers on my computer. Ended up going back to my old mouse. I opened a support ticket with Mad Catz and did not hear anything back for days. I connected with them via their web chat and they finally sent me an email with information on returning the mouse. However when I asked if I would be ok with not having the sales receipt and if they would reimburse me for the shipping cost. After ignoring me for 20 minutes they just disconnected from chat. Please be warned and DO NOT buy this product. If feels great but after researching the web it has a lot of issues and their support will not help you at all.

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.5 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - Gloss Black

Pros: -super adjustable
-comfortable
-good software
-well built
-lots of programmable buttons

Cons: -of more than one person is using it it may need to be readjusted
-software not on CD it has to be downloaded (its about 120 mb)

Other Thoughts: I actually like the weights i didn't think i would. Have never needed full sensitivity usually use 3/4. once you learn the software it can program a button to do almost anything.
