3 out of 5 eggsGloss...

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: Awesome customization

Cons: The balance of this mouse is not great. If you apply to much pressure to the back of the mouse. You'll find that it lifts of the pad and loses tracking.

2 out of 5 eggsGood feel, bad quality

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: feels great, incredible customization....

Cons: hardware isn't 100% up to par

Other Thoughts: great feeling mouse, lots of customization options to get it just right for nearly any hand size. It worked great for about 2 weeks, then it would randomly stop tracking the cursor. Buttons worked... motion was dead. Wait a random amount of time and it would start up again, it's around this time I started getting USB power errors. Some web research showed this to be a somewhat common issue with this mouse.

I tried the following:

Bought a powered USB 3.0 hub thinking the mouse may just be drawing too much juice and would work better off a dedicated powered hub.... nope

removed / reinstalled drivers... nope

cleaned the lens area with canned air and alcohol according to the MadCatz website.... nope

connected it to a totally different computer (without the drivers installed), same issue, which says it's a hardware issue and not a driver issue.

Considered sending it back for an exchange for the same device but decided to just send it back for a refund since I was still well within the return window and get a Razer Naga Hex.

at least it decided to die out before the refund window was over, if you get this mouse I hope your luck with it is better than mine.

4 out of 5 eggsWear & Tear

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: I love the:
• weight
• texture
• customizability
• on-the-fly adjustment
• wheel scrolling behavior
• length / texture / durability of the wire

Cons: The 2 thumb buttons (the ones that aren't the red aiming button) wear out very quick. They still work, but the "click" feedback is gone after only 3-4 months of usage, leaving you unsure as to whether you're pressing them or not.

The only other qualms I have is that when using this mouse with my mac, it won't automatically apply a custom profile after booting up (using the appropriate Mad Catz software of course).

That's it, just two faults I have found after 10+ months of ownership.

Other Thoughts: The thumb buttons that wear down easily are the only aspects of this mouse that suggest a sub-par build quality. Before this one I owned a razor orochi, whose thumb buttons worked till the very end, although the primary left and right click wore down extremely fast (to the point where it was unusable, doh).

I'm not willing to buy another razer mouse after using this one, however, I hope in future iterations of design there will be more attention to the detail regarding wear & tear on the thumb buttons.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: It is a very firm, durable, and amazing mouse. I have a big hand, so the adjustable parts is phenomenal. I love this mouse. Its very comfortable. Also the replaceable parts are easy to change. This is the best mouse I've had so far!! I would recommend this mouse to anyone who wants to spend the money and plays or is on the computer a lot.

Cons: It wasn't free, also it can't make me dinner :(

5 out of 5 eggsBetter for my needs.

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: Just a great set of different customizability for all shapes and hand seizes and a bunch of wonderful features.

Cons: little pricey... 100$

Other Thoughts: I love the customizability! I tried so many other mouses from just about every brand: Razer, Logitech, Sensei, ect... and this one just provides the best comfort and customizability, that I so craved. 100$ is a lot to pay, but I think it was worth it....

5 out of 5 eggsPremium tool for gaming fanatics

This review is from: Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac - White

Pros: The adjustable length is great. From wrist to tip of my middle finger my hand measures 7 1/2". Finding a mouse that is not heavy but also has a comfortable rest position is nearly impossible for me. This mouse is the first solution I've found for my not so average physiology.
The thumb buttons are actually usable. You only need to roll your thumb slightly toward the top of the mouse.
The mouse wheel sensitivity is adjustable, both the horizontal and vertical.
The preset button is right next to the left mouse button. This means you don't have to pick up the mouse, a paperclip and a flashlight when you want to change. Convenient for those of us who forget to change before switching games.
There is a sensitivity-dulling button right at the tip of your thumb. It's easy to press without throwing off your aim. The degree of sensitivity-dulling is adjustable. The sensitivity-dulling is done by the same software that runs the extra buttons and does not decrease the DPI.
I think I'm out. Best mouse I have ever purchased. I've been playing PC games for 30 years.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Other Thoughts: If you're used to finger-tip controlling tiny mice this one will take some getting used to. Find some container dedicated to keeping the extra parts right after you get it.
