2 out of 5 eggsPeice of Junk

Pros: Well, it's white. I have a white case. It matches. It reads DVD-ROM discs - sometimes.

The Nero software gave me a new challenge - and I'm always up for a new challenge...

Cons: At times it just won't read discs at all. Could be the disc. So, being of a sound computer mind for over 25 years, I thought maybe, just maybe the soulition might be on the included software. Maybe I'm missing something. So long story short, I installed all the Nero junk, then un-installed...then manually removed the rest, wxcept for those few 'encrypted' XP registry entries.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line - works as a DVD-ROM on older DVD-ROM discs (so far), doesn't play DVD's.

And whatever you do - DO NOT INSTALL NERO! Heed others warnings!

5 out of 5 eggsVery stable and quiet

Pros: Quiet drive. Took all of 5 minutes to install including cleaning the case out. Plug and play technology. Don't bother with the software that comes with it. There are better DVD programs out there for cheap. Windows XP recognized easy, and didn't have to do a thing to it besides hook up cables.

Cons: None. Solid casing, and no damaged parts.

Other Thoughts: Simple DVD reader drive. Lets me play Battlefield 2142, because I never bothered to install a DVD drive. It plays movies fine, but I didn't buy it for that. Just needed it to read DVD-ROM format, and it does beautifully

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Got the drive this week. Instead of installing the Nero software that came with it I left my Win DVD software on the computer. It worked great. Drive was recognized instantly. No problems. Drive plays DVDs my old drive had trouble with. With a year warranty on parts and labor good drive for the money. Newegg delivered product as ordered and on time.

Cons: Nero software seemed like it had too many bells and whistles. Just want a DVD player software with drivers nothing more!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Reader, Bad Software

Pros: The reader works just fine. It is installed as the Master IDE device and works speedily and quietly.

Cons: The Nero 7 software has been atrocious. It created a "WMS Idle" error when attempting to log-off or shut down (XP Home, SP2, all updates). It would then take MINUTES to finish, and would often hang. Removing the software involved manual edit to the registry. I will revert to Nero 6.6 that came with my HP DVD burner. It has been trouble free on another machine.

Other Thoughts: Found the fix after a Google search for the error.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect inexpensive drive

Pros: this drive has a DVD-ROM capability of up to 16x speed, and CD-ROM of up to 48x speed.

Cons: cannot write DVD's.

Other Thoughts: If you want a drive for just running CD's and DVD's, this is it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood, inexpensive optical drive

Pros: It's fast, reads media burned with DVDShrink, quiet, no installation problems.
I prefer Lite-On dvd-rom drives to others because of the huge cache and low vibration. It's set as a slave so most people won't need to change the jumper.

Cons: none to speak of

Other Thoughts: I don't like Lite-On dvd burners and opt for NEC instead because I haven't much luck with the Lite-On burners. I have never had a bad experience with the dvd-rom drives.
This model doesn't seem to exist on the Lite-On site. System requirements are not posted here and what is on the box is quite misleading. The box states a 1.3 ghz P4 is needed. Maybe that's the case for the Nero software included - but definitely not for the drive itself. Since this will be for my mother's old AOpen Apollo AX63 pro with Win2K and a 600 mhz P3, I dragged out my old "emergency" desktop with a 500 mhz P3, a 4.3 gig Fujitsu ATA66 hard drive & 384 mb of PC100 ram. I loaded Windows 2000, installed PowerDVD for the codecs and watched a DVD with no problem. There was no audio delay, no freezes or skipped frames.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat DVD-rom drive

Pros: This thing works perfectly. There isn't really much to say about a DVD-rom drive. It installed absolutely perfectly, and paired well on the "Master" jumper with my Lite-On CD-ROM LTN526S drive.

Cons: None
