1 out of 5 eggsInternal grief!

Pros: All sound good on paper.

Cons: All brands of BD players have a majority of dissatisfied customers so, why not just use an external player-such as Panasonic. There is never any problem with playing Blu-ray discs and, you can buy them at the same price. I'd rather just use the input chnge on my 37" TV/monitor. Sound is never a problem either. It has been many years, and the manufacures still cannot agree on who gets what.

Other Thoughts: Go external because it loks like it is going to be another 10 years. By then, they will be obsolete anyway.

2 out of 5 eggsSay No To Lite-ON

Pros: It works now (After $40 software purchase).

Cons: The included software cd necessary to watch blurays was unreadable in either of several drives - Spoke with Lite-On customer service on 2 different occasions and was told both times they would send me another copy yet I've received nothing over 2 months later. Had to pay $40 to buy PowerDVD just to be able to watch blurays.

Other Thoughts: Purchased from another site on sale, but most of my PC parts come from Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good drive

Pros: -fast
-plays blu ray

Cons: -won't play half my old DVD's
-Cyberlink software is dodgy (but works mostly)

Other Thoughts: I started trying to play my old DVD's (legit discs I purchased) and it won't even recognize them. Not acceptable. I can't return the thing anymore, so like others I'm stuck with a $100 mediocre blu-ray player. If currently shopping for a blu-ray player, look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsHardware work software does not

Pros: Product hardware seems to be working well, but I can't really test the blu ray until I get software that will play blu ray.

Cons: The disc that came with the play does not WORK. It is unrecognizable and will not load. The product is CyberLink BD Solution.

Other Thoughts: I have contacted Newegg to get help on this but they will not help with the disc replacement. Sorry, did not have time till recently to run down the problem. And yea, I am out of the 30 day warranty, so what help your customer out.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT BD Drive

Pros: Installed in my HTPC over a year ago. I'm running PowerDVD 10 & Win7 64-bit Home. It easily plays every Blu-Ray movie I've put it in, and that's a LOT of movies over the last year.

Cons: None!!!

Other Thoughts: For those complaining about the included software, you deserve to be disappointed. Its NOT the drive. Mine came with PowerDVD 8, and all I had to do was install the latest patch. I upgraded to PowerDVD 10 Ultra because the "FREE" version of 8 is not the retail version with full functionality. Its common knowledge that bundled software included with hardware is NEVER full featured or up-to-date. Upgrade to PowerDVD 10, or other capable software like WinDVD, and you'll have no problems.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't play blu-ray movies

Pros: Can copy files from blu-ray discs - and it can still play dvds and cds, but I already have a dvd player to do that...

Cons: Can't play blu-ray movies; the software disc included doesn't work, the manufacturer is ignoring me when I email and call them, newegg doesn't have anymore, and now I'm stuck with a useless piece of trash in my computer.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful - run away

Pros: none

Cons: provided software is garbage and won't install in Windows 7 Pro 64bit. Drive did however recognize a few blurays for me for about the first 2weeks. Now it won't read any disc at all, and is producing a nice high pitch squeal when trying to read the discs. I got a deal on it during the holidays for $45. Should have known to buy something that cheap. Stay away Windows 7 64bit users!

5 out of 5 eggsGood entry level bluray player

Pros: Does what it says. No issues thus far.

Cons: Loudest thing in my media PC, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Also, choose something besides The Wrestler on Bluray to play for your first movie, unless you want to see some HD Rourke wrinkles.

3 out of 5 eggsMEH!

Pros: Runs games and CDs fine. Looks good. Great price for what its capable of doing.

Cons: Software included is garbage. Im not sure if its the player the driver/software or my lack of knowledge but for some reason when I play BD i cant get any sound to come out.

Other Thoughts: Use a different BD player software

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works

Cons: I'm docking an egg for limiting the read speed for dual layer to 4x. I don't understand the reason behind this. It will still play dual-layer discs with higher bitrates smoothly though.

Other Thoughts: It works perfectly on Windows 7 64-bit. I've played/copied many of my DVDs and Blu-rays, burned DVD+RW and CD-RW discs. I was concerned that my SATA chipset would not be compatible in AHCI mode in recognizing the drive as a burner (had IDE before) but it had no issues. My chipset is Intel ICH7R and have all my hard drives and the iHES108-29 on the same controller in AHCI mode without any issues.

Playback is flawless. I have Pentium D 965EE and a GTX 275. So I barely meet the min requirements for CPU and my video card supports acceleration and can play any Blu-ray.

This drive is definitely a good buy and have previously owned Lite-On drives that are still working, but kept working so long they outlived their usefulness.
