5 out of 5 eggsJust works.

Pros: No problems with installation or use. Windows 7 picks it up and can start burning immediately. This thing is quiet and works great.

Cons: None yet. Ownership is less than a year but so far everything is great.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with tweaks

Pros: Easy installation, works perfect for burning DVDs and CDs (haven't tried Blu-rays yet)

Cons: No software was included to play blu-ray discs (I should have done more research, -0 eggs)

Other Thoughts: As mentioned in the 'cons' section, there is no software included to play blu-ray discs. After a bit of research I was able to get VLC working to play movies. I should have done more of the research before I bought this drive, but the price was right at the time I purchased it!

2 out of 5 eggsOnly lasted 16 months

Pros: It was nice while it worked. I burned maybe 20 Blu-rays and 30 DVDs.

Cons: How is it these things die just a few months after the warranty is over? Can they not build them to last a little longer than that?

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 6 months!

Pros: I'm a Level 3 computer tech, that loves to build systems for myself and my friends. However I let my friend pick most of his own parts other than the motherboard and he chose the Lite On drive!

The unit failed after about 6 months!!

It probably failed even sooner and he didn't realize it since he rarely ever used it!

I'm not a big Lite On fan. I have purchased I.D.E. drives in the past and had two drives fail within 2 years!

Cons: The Lite On BD-RW unit we ordered failed completely after only 6 months of very occasional use. I was very disappointed in the Lite On quality control.

Other Thoughts: Personally I would have R.M.A.ed this drive since it cost $75. However it was used in a build I put together for a friend and he chose the Lite On BD-RW unit.

It had good reviews and was supposed to be more compatible with all the different BD-R and RW media, so he went with it.

Well it died completely after only 6 months of very light usage. My friend failed to inform me about the Lite On BD-RW not working. He assumed it was his operating system, which of course was a huge mistake on his part.

I tested his drive after he mentioned that it may not be working one night and it would not come up correctly in his Asus PZ68VPro's BIOS!!

I build a ton of P.C.s every year and if he just would have mentioned this to me I would have had him pull the drive and I would have tested it, in my Full Tower sooner!

Of course I would have then R.M.A.ed the unit for him since it's worth spending $20 on the return shipping to get a new $75 Blue Ray Burner!

It's not like it was a $20 DVD-RW that you would just throw out and replace.

Just a side note: I purchased two LG optical drives, one BD-RW and one DVD-RW for my Full Tower and they are still both going strong. I'm using these drives to burn movies on a daily basis and they handle any media I have used and are still working great and run very quite as well.

I have to say I'm not a huge Lite On fan since the last two drives I bought for myself (Back in the I.D.E. days) both failed within 2 years. With both of my drives I had DVDs get damaged by the drive, due to the drive failing to stop the disks from spinning during eject.

Every Lite On Optical drive I have used in the last 4 years all failed within 2 years, damaged some DVD's including a few costly games and were always very loud from the get go.

I'm just not a fan of Lite On. It seems like there quality control has really slipped over the last 3 to 4 years.

As I mentioned I have become a big LG fan! Both with burning Blue Ray and DVD media.

The units I put in my new build last year were both on sale for a good price and seem to be built very well. I have never had a bad burn due to either optical drive I purchased and they are super quite as well. I'm now a very big LG fan.

A note about LG Blue Ray Players: The LG BP-220 I bought as a secondary Blue Ray player is only $70 and plays everything I throw at it as well. Plus it's the normal player width that matches other audio equipment like my Yamaha BlueRay player and my Comcast DVR unit as well. The only thing I don't like about this player is the small cheap remote. However it's still functional and all the cheaper players have cheaper remotes now!

5 out of 5 eggsRunning Good, Hardly Used

Pros: * Works
* Cheap

Cons: * None

Other Thoughts: * I've had several Lite-ON drives over the year. Unfortunately almost all of them have either died or siezed up.
* I bought the warranty this time, I figure a lot of these just gets dust clogged over the years, and they are cheap. Hardly ever use it anyways.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No issues. I used it on a small home server/HTPC. It got a lot of use up front to back up my bluray collection, and now gets used every once in a while. Works well with Ubuntu Linux.

Cons: None really. It does what it is supposed to do.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Bought 4 of these and they work great, burned about 10 blu-rays and about 10 dvd so far with coasters even with junky media.

These also support changing the booktype for DVD+R so that's a plus too in a Blu-ray burner!

8mb Cache as compared to 4mb on most in this price point!

Cons: None really, not for the money.

2 out of 5 eggsOK for a while

Pros: It's a brand name.

Cons: Doesn't seem to be built to last.

Other Thoughts: I've had this drive since late April last year and now it provides me with a lot of DVD coasters when I try to write DVDs. It used to write them OK, but now it gets about 1 out of 4 OK, the rest are coasters. It still reads DVDs without a problem. Not sure about the BluRay burning, I never tried to do that.
