Serial ATA (SATA) connectivity Get higher transfer rates with SATA connection (compared to PATA). This Lite-On Blu-ray Combo drive is compatible with the latest motherboards. It has a thin, light-weight cable for more convenient installation. SATA supports "hot swap" (must be supported by your motherboard).
SMART-BURN SMART-BURN is a technology developed by Lite-ON. It can automatically adjust writing strategy & running OPC to provide the best burn quality and avoid Buffer Underrun error as well.
Smart-X SMART-X function adjusts CD-DA / VCD / DVD data extraction to the fastest allowable speed according to both data request rate from host and disc quality.

Other Thoughts: I prefer to spend a bit more on Bluray drives if they offered some sort of software to watch Bluray movies. That's the whole point of a Bluray drive isn't it? Also had this in a Win 8 machine, still worked nicely. Cons: Had to be shipped from West Coast. My entire PC build came via 1 large box from the East Coast where I live and was delivered in 1 day. This box came from California and took 5 via FedEx. Not Lite-On's fault or anyone's really. Installed all my drivers and watched few movies with it works just like advertised. Cons: Cheap packaging, no box simply wrapped in shipping bag and was inside a plastic bag. Other Thoughts: overall this a a very nice drive. but the problem mentioned above has really disappointed me on my purchase. for the price i hoped i could replace my worthless ps3 (which recently stopped reading my discs) with a comp capable of bluray playback really wanted to take two eggs for this but with its overall function and quality i just couldn't blame it on the drive itself. it is really a very nice drive 0 out of 3 people found this review helpful.
