1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Its's cheap

Cons: If you buy this be sure to purchase a 4pin sata power cord. The standard power cord will not work here.. it would have been nice if that was stated some where with this product

Other Thoughts: I got my server built this last week, and after one week of this drive working it has failed like so many other parts I bought from new egg

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a Blu-Ray......

Pros: Fast reader, Plays all the DVD and CD that i've put in. i've only tried one blu-ray movie on it, and it works without any problem.

Cons: A little over price since blu-ray players are fairly new. Blu-ray software application loads kinda slow, but i guess i still have to download updates from pioneer website.

Other Thoughts: Pioneer blu-ray player works great, but it just need software updates from pioneer website to fix the bugs on the applications. As for the price, a bit over price since its fairly new technology, but it is expected so you really can't compare prices on the other optical players(DVD-RW,DVD/CD-RW,DVD-ROM,CD-ROM) with the blu-ray players.

Pros: Quiet even during high spin speed. Plugged it in and worked perfectly!

Cons: A pricey drive, but with Pioneer, quality isn't a question

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job

Pros: Plays every blu ray I have tried except "The Day the World Stood Still" The quality is great and the price was very reasonable.

Cons: I tried to upgrade the firmware but I kept getting a target not found error from the firmware program. I still have not yet figured out how to fix this.

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind you will need the Power DVD 9 Ultra software to play blu-rays If you have vista ultimate this integrates seemlessly with media center

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING!!!! What a JOKE!!!!

Pros: None that I couldn't have received with a much cheaper DVD/RW

Cons: How about this for a con? It DOES NOT come with software to make it do the one thing I bought it for. Play Blu-Ray discs. Even after updating the firmware, and supplied software, still no Blu-Ray. I have to spend another $100 to make it do the one thing I bought it for. And I won't be buying WinDVD 9 either. They supplied the garbage that came with this drive.

Other Thoughts: I don't care whether this is Pioneer's fault or the software supplier. For a drive I bought to do one thing, and there be NO WAY for this drive to do it without spending another $100 is a freakin' JOKE. And the joke's on me. Don't be fooled.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Excellent drive.

Cons: Horrible software. The software is so bad that I should really just give it a four egg rating instead. Pioneer quality is normally really good. The quality of the software doesn't match the hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing to have to buy a new monitor

Pros: All I had to do was download firmware & a video card updated drive (GeForce 8600 GT) and it was ready to go! I actually saw about the first 10 seconds of Super Bad. Newegg's shipping cost/speed are top notch. I am 100% confident, that a new monitor is all I need to watch Blu Ray!

Cons: I lost a screw in the case somewhere during installation. Tight fit for one of the mounting screws it dropped, heard it hit metal and dissapeared! Oh well, as long as it doesn't short out my mobo I'll be alright.

Other Thoughts: Well, looks like I'm going to have to buy a new monitor, have a 19.5 widescreen Westinghouse, that is HDCP compliant, to go with my Blu Ray drive. Luckily newegg just sent me an offer for a sweet Acer:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009162&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL033109&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL033109-_-Monitors-_-LE1B-_-24009162

Installing this made me think how wonderful it would've been to have a power supply with removable cables, and a case that doesn't use screws!

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate the drive first!

Pros: Was a good value, also burns DVD/CD. Plays Blu-ray movies on my HTPC over HDMI.

Cons: Needed a firmware update before it was stable. The included WinDVD software is a little dated and not as good as other playback software. Also I had to call support to update the firmware as on their site it lists that there are two models of this drive 202 and S02. The site asked that I use a tool to determine my drive, I did and it came back as 202. I tried the 202 update and it would not update. I called and was told that the tool provided didn't really work and to try the S02 (even though on their site it clearly states that flashing the wrong firmware would be my fault). The S02 flashed just fine and the drive is working beautifully.

Other Thoughts: Pioneer support was a joke, their 800 number was busy the first 4 tries and then I was on hold for 30 minutes all because their site was plagued with misinformation.

5 out of 5 eggsfirst crack at bluray

Pros: plays blu ray on your computer. i'de prefer over standalone because, well; it's cheaper! standalone players can be kind of roomy so why not stick one in your already taking up space computer? the picture was so clean...i'm never buying a dvd again. brings my room to life with my 40" 1080p monitor and pioneer 5.1 sound system.

Cons: was a little troubling to get it to actually read blu ray at first. took a few hours for me to figure it out and a couple of restarts but it worked eventually. it is a little louder than my samsung lightscribe drive.

Other Thoughts: if you have an hdcp video card and hdcp monitor this is a good investment. i'm running on an 8800gt superclocked and have it wired to my 40" 1080p which acts as my computers monitor via dvi to hdmi connection. works flawlessly.
