Good Drive!
- Pros: Plays blu-ray movies and burns discs! Exactly what it should do.
- Cons: OEM Cyberlink software is junk. Better off finding some other player. Or pay the $100 for the full version -- too much, in my book.
- Other Thoughts: First reviewer IS actually missing something! Either his monitor or his video card (or both) is NOT HDCP-compliant; clearly! Do not take his review into account when deciding on this drive. A note on graphics chips: just because the specs say a chip _can_ do HDCP, doesn't mean that the board maker actually implements it. Make sure that your video card and monitor can do it, and all will be well.
Works well, but must have broadband to update software.
- Pros: The hardware works as expected and I had no problems hooking it up to my eSata connections on my PC to read discs of various formats. After updating the software, it played Blu-Ray movies great in my main system via eSata connections.
- Cons: The software that comes with it, gives an error message that says a component is missing when you try an play Blu-ray for the first time and it asks if you want to update. You must tell it to upgrade through that error message prompt. If you try to find the update yourself on the website, you may not be able to find the patch that works for your OEM version if the software. The update is a 70MB download. If you are still stuck on a dial-up connection, that file may be too large and you won't be able to play Blu-Ray without it.
- Other Thoughts: In my main PC, Blu-Ray movies played great after I got the updated software. However, Blu-ray movies didn't play smoothly when I put the drive in my Shuttle system, which runs Vista, has less ram (2GB), and integrated graphics. I am currently trying to track down the problem, but I suspect I need more ram.... if you plan on putting this in a HTPC, make it is a good system.

garbage
- Pros: none
- Cons: oem software will not install. asus and cyberlink offer no support and blame the other. paid for a blu ray drive that won't play blu ray. buy anything else.
Blu-Ray Support not there...
- Pros: DVD part of the drive works great. No read or burn problems so far.
- Cons: Out of 8 Blu-Ray discs, have had problems reading 4 of them about 1/2 way through the disc. These are new disks with no scratches or dirt. Just stops with a read error.
- Other Thoughts: Even though Asus indicates that have a process for supplying firmware updates, I have not found a way. Have not gotten any help from Asus on firmware updates to help solve the problem. Just search the net and do your own research.
PS
- Pros: -
- Cons: -
- Other Thoughts: Sorry for making another review, but I'd like to point out that my M3A32 has had absolutely no problem working with this drive, despite another review's statement that the two are not supported together.
