The LG GGW-H20L Blu-ray/HD DVD drive brings you dual-layer DVD capability, LightScribe creativity, and LG quality. The drive connects via SATA. In dual-layer mode, you can write 8.5 GB of data to one dual-layer DVD, in DVD±R mode, you'll get 16X write speed, and you can burn Blu-ray and play HD DVD media, single or dual layered! No matter what media you need to work with, you'll have the right tools to get the job done quickly and accurately.

Blu-ray Disc offers an unprecedented 25 GB capacity on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual layer disc. That's enough storage for nine hours of HD movies, 23 hours of standard definition content or 72 CDs on a single disc! In addition to its massive storage capacity, Blu-ray Disc gives you playback of MPEG2, the native compression technique for HDTV broadcasts, or even more capacity with advanced codes such as AVC.

With the creative power of LightScribe, you can burn silkscreen-quality images of your custom-designed artwork directly onto LightScribe blanks. Dress your business presentations in corporate attire, your music media in album cover art, or your personal photo discs in an original design you create! Whatever your disc-based media needs, this cutting edge drive is the right tool for the job!

5 out of 5 eggsStill using this

Pros: Will play pretty much anything in the CD/DVD/HD/Bluray format.

Light scribe, burns very nice DVDs, archival Blurays.

Will play obsolete HD DVDs.

Cons: You need to update the firmware. You need something like Arc Soft's Total Media Theater to play current Blurays.

It is slow. Some movies take to long to talk to the server.

Other Thoughts: I have all the older software and the upgrades and they are not worth the hassle of using.

5 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: Cheap BD 25 and BD 50 burner

Cons: Software is not the best. I had to download several patches before it would fully play a blu-ray

Other Thoughts: I have yet to burn anything yet. So far it has played movies just fine. Currently it is ripping a movie and I am able to do other thing on my PC like play games and stream movies without any system hangs. Be sure you have a HDCP graphics card and monitor. Currently I'm running 2 gtx 260 cards in SLI and have HDMI out on my PC.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great BluRay playback, disc burning. Lightscribe is nice. All inclusive drive that does just about anything you throw at it.

Cons: Poor software. I installed the PowerDVD on my system and it wouldn't play back any discs. Tried other playback programs and still nothing. Finally had to reformat my system to get it to work properly.

Other Thoughts: Great drive, not so great software. A lot of unnecessary work for a drive that should play if all of your specifications are in sync with what the device requires.

5 out of 5 eggsOne the Bedt BD Writers available

Pros: Workers better than advertised

Cons: Bundled Software

Other Thoughts: This was THE FIRST reliable BD drive and is still one of the top two. Cyberware software is always bundled as a teaser, not the full version. BD drives are a new tech just like DVD was 10 years ago and not for the faint of heart. New tech is always buggy and in need of tweaks to get working properly. It is also expensive. Don't dive in if you are not ready to swim!

1 out of 5 eggsSoftware = Garbage.

Pros: Fast and quiet drive, nice looking front panel.

Cons: Software. Cyberlink suite is garbage. Will not play any Blu-ray movie I own. Even after all "updates" it still wont play. DVD played fine, Blu-ray will not. The whole point is to play and burn Blu-ray discs, under Vista 64bit OS.

Other Thoughts: Should have spent $150 -less- and simply got a DVD burner for my new build.

1 out of 5 eggsSoftware makes this useless

Pros: Very fast drive, quite, recognized and installed as a ODD in Vista 64 Bit.

Cons: Cyberlink Software. The whole purpose of this drive is to play and burn Blue-Ray discs. The Cyberlink Software is absolutely horrible. It will not play any DVD's/Blue Rays on Vista 64 bit. Customer support is marginal at best and can't seem to trouble shoot outside cutting and pasting from a manual.

Other Thoughts: I can only give this one egg because the purpose of having a BlueRay burner without buying other, working software is defeated by the uselessness of the bundled Cyberlink software for Vista 64 bit.

4 out of 5 eggsVery solid drive

Pros: Very solid drive, does what it says it will do.

Cons: Cyberlink software is serviceable, but not very good as others have noted. This is why 4 eggs instead of 5.

Other Thoughts: The drive is a little bigger than most CD/DVD drives - longer by about an inch. I wasn't able to fit it in the computer I planned on, but was able to install in another computer that had a longer drive bay.

2 out of 5 eggsCrippled by Cyberlink

Pros: Easy to install, reasonable price, plays both Blu Ray & HD-DVDs, good picture quality.

Cons: Cyberlink S/W unreliable. It allows sound sporadically. It requires DAILY updates/downloads/patches which have compromised the sound on my whole computer system! Support is minimal aside from solicitations to buy the $99 version 9.

Other Thoughts: Only buy this if you can get reliable third party Blu-Ray HD software.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat drive

Pros: This drive burns bd-r quite fast and has been a great addition to my computer

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I have had no problems with this drive as far as lagging or software clashing i have heard reports of both I would not recommend this drive to some one using a single core processor
