4 out of 5 eggsSolid Worker

Pros: Does its job consistently and easy to use. Plays movies and runs data disks equally well. It has saved me a lot of time doing windows installs.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Does what its supposed to.

5 out of 5 eggsgood price and works for Windows 10

Pros: Just plug in and it works for my Windows 10 laptop.

Cons: Noisy when I installed MS Office, but not a problem.

Other Thoughts: I compared this LG model with newer LG models and saw no difference whatsoever in functionality and speeds. So I picked this lowest-priced LG one at the time of purchase. It works fine on my Windows 10 laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsSlow and lots of read errors

Pros: Not much, pretty standard external DVD design

Cons: The drive is slow to read most media, seems like it is reading the same spot multiple times.

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely light and capable

Pros: This drive worked great with my Asus Q502 with only one usb connection. Its extremely light and fairly quiet.

Cons: No cons as so far, but i will probably go ahead and order the usb Y power connector to make sure that the little guy is living up to his full potential. Its so light, it feels fragile, but thats straight up opinion and unfounded so far.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this yesterday and got it today, its like magic delivery. Newegg has apparently created a worm hole from their warehouse to my front door and lubricated it with unicorn tears. All Hail Newegg Processing and Delivery!!! I ordered parts from a competitor 8 days ago and still have not gotten them all.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Able to boot from my ODD less tablet / laptop hybrid and install Windows after botched job downgrading from Windows 10 beta trial.

Cons: None. It's perfect so far.

Other Thoughts: Quite a good deal. Gear gets ever cheaper. I don't think I'll ever need a second one of these. I got this to install an operating system into a computer without an ODD, and someday I'll probably dig it out to play video games that require a disc in the drive on ODD-less PCs and laptops.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: small and light, no power cable needed

Cons: didn't work

Other Thoughts: Right out of the box it would not open. Eject command through windows and the button on the unit did nothing other than make the light come on for a second. Used the pinhole manual eject to get it open, but it didn't even recognize the disk that came with it. Tried it on three different computers. Same results. Returning right away to newegg...

1 out of 5 eggsdid not last one day

Pros: Great Price. Fast shipping. Portable and small.

Cons: Would not read it's own driver disc. There are explicit, instructions on how to download drivers, which if not followed to the letter will cause the drive to malfunction. Those are LG's words. Not worth the bother. After 3-4 attempts at downloading driver, machine would no longer eject disc. And as other commenters have stated, the power cord pictured IS NOT included. But "may be purchased at additional cost".

Other Thoughts: Over all a terrible experience. Lucky Goldstar, no longer on my list of vendors.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed more power

Pros: Cheap

Cons: The picture on the website shows it comes with a USB cable with a extra power connector. But when I opened the box, there is only a single cable connected from the drive and the computer. When I tired it on my "old" Dell Inspiron 5100, it detected the drive, and it will tell you it need more power to run.

Other Thoughts: Please check the contents of the products, and then put them on the descriptions.

5 out of 5 eggsYou Never Know...

Pros: Got 2 of these little gems. Now that the trend to build systems with out optical drives is taking hold, it is a good idea to have a few of these lying around in the event you have to install software off a CD/DVD.

These units are powered off the USB plug, stay in their little box on the shelf until needed, if ever. Good retro insurance.

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: Very convenient solution for a sofware and or entertainment alternative is needed in a system without an optical drive or a defective one.

Every tool box should have at least one of these.
