1 out of 5 eggsdid not last one day

Pros: Great Price. Fast shipping. Portable and small.

Cons: Would not read it's own driver disc. There are explicit, instructions on how to download drivers, which if not followed to the letter will cause the drive to malfunction. Those are LG's words. Not worth the bother. After 3-4 attempts at downloading driver, machine would no longer eject disc. And as other commenters have stated, the power cord pictured IS NOT included. But "may be purchased at additional cost".

Other Thoughts: Over all a terrible experience. Lucky Goldstar, no longer on my list of vendors.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed more power

Pros: Cheap

Cons: The picture on the website shows it comes with a USB cable with a extra power connector. But when I opened the box, there is only a single cable connected from the drive and the computer. When I tired it on my "old" Dell Inspiron 5100, it detected the drive, and it will tell you it need more power to run.

Other Thoughts: Please check the contents of the products, and then put them on the descriptions.

5 out of 5 eggsYou Never Know...

Pros: Got 2 of these little gems. Now that the trend to build systems with out optical drives is taking hold, it is a good idea to have a few of these lying around in the event you have to install software off a CD/DVD.

These units are powered off the USB plug, stay in their little box on the shelf until needed, if ever. Good retro insurance.

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: Very convenient solution for a sofware and or entertainment alternative is needed in a system without an optical drive or a defective one.

Every tool box should have at least one of these.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied Customer

Pros: Fast, and on time shipment. Product was intact and not damaged. And worked right out of the box. Used on newer Windows 8.1 based tablet PC. And older laptop used as a desktop. And running Linux (obviously the Linux as to have the right driver/software). But the product did come with CD and software for watching movies)
Yes it is a little lite and as such. You have to protect it from being damaged when transporting it. And not being rough when removing or putting a disk into it. Since the main part/base is small. The open Disc tray will extend out about the same size/distance as the base. I plan on getting some velcro where it may be in a semi-permanent area.

As worked on every DVD used so far. This includes older and newer DVDs. Even the ones that my other DVD players could no longer read. But you may have to give it time for scratched/older to read. But was impressed. Considering the price/free shipping and the performance so far. Have not used CDs yet. But at this point. Don't expect a problem.

Haven't tried out the direct DVD player/reader part. (or option) on a Usb ready TV yet. But did not buy it for that use. But it allows for more options in the future. Along with the M-Disc ability.

But as an immediate replace for DVD. I have been completely satisfied so far.

Cons: None for what I needed/expected. But see "Other Thoughts" for other info.

Other Thoughts: So people are not expecting miracles for the value of the device.

Yes, dependent on the DVD. It may get a little load when reading/spinning, etc. But it is a small device. And I do currently have it very close to where I'm at. So that is expected and mainly noticed when their is a DVD that has aged/scratched, etc.

The Usb is short. But that is expected these days due to cost. And to ensure power and other issues (like electrical noise bleed thru). Plus it only has one Usb cable for power/communication. -- You may need a longer cable. One end is Usb small and normal size (small goes into the device. Large/normal into the computer/laptop, etc.

Again, this device is not a tank. So when putting DVDs/CDs, etc. Best to use two hands or have the device stable when loading/unloading the DVDs, etc. --And protect it when transporting it. Just common sense type things. Or other types/brands for that matter.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

Pros: The USB DVD drive worked on a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with windows 8 and on an old Toshiba Portege m200 with windows xp. It started up without any issues on both devices.

Cons: The only issue I saw was it does take a little bit to start up. But I did expect that as I use to have a very old usb 1 cd writable drive back in the day.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: small compact inexpensive reads scratched disks. I am amazed at the performance.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The DVD is dead, but there are still allot of movies on DVD. I had a less than perfect DVD that I was trying to rip. I have two other highly rated DVD burners i purchased on Newegg, an Asus, and a Lite-On SATA drives (manufactured 2013, 2012) that I tried first and both drives aborted half way through the disk with multiple errors. This LG USB drive, although about half the speed of the above drives, was able to rip the problem DVD with no errors logged. I don't understand why the LG was so good, and the other drives, were so bad, but the bottom line is it made through the scratched disk and I got my rip. I will continue to pull this drive out when i have problem disks.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad!

Pros: Reads faster than the last USB powered optical drive that I've used. Sounds and performs almost as fast as an internal drive!

Cons: Haven't noticed any Cons yet.

Other Thoughts: Have only used it to install windows 7 so far. Haven't tried writing yet, and I hope it lasts a long time.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT work with the Surface Pro 3

Pros: Good cord length

Cons: As other reviewers have said this device draws more power from the USB port than the standard allows. When used with the surface this led to a "power surge on the usb hub". The drive would start to spin up and then abruptly stop with the error displayed. As others have said this overdraw of power is dangerous and can lead to damage of the computer.

Other Thoughts: Went with the EBAU108 which works great with the SP3
