1 out of 5 eggsLinux users beware!

Pros: None

Cons: Lexmark does not use standard protocols to have their printers talk to your computer. This means that it is impossible to use a generic driver in Windows (like a postscript one) and since Lexmark does not offer a Linux driver, this printer is absolute garbage for Linux users.

I don't expect printer manufacturers to go out of their way to make drivers for Linux, but in this case Lexmark actively hinders the process.

Other Thoughts: Their tech support is in Indiia and reads strictly from a script. When I called to ask about Linux drivers or a development kit, I told them I was running Linux. They asked me if that was the same as Windows 98. I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent printer!

Pros: I needed a laser printer with a duplex unit (gotta make sure no sheet goes to waste :)). The Lexmark E250d was not the cheapest one but the brand name, other reviews and its features were the selling points for me.

The printer is very easy to setup, stylish and it prints really fast. The duplexing unit is one of its strongest points as well as the relatively large tray, the front loader for envelopes or single sheets plus it is a laser one. That alone saves 30-40 dollars per cartridge on an inkjet, thus making the return on investment very high.

Extremely satisfied with this product and would highly recommend it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wish I had bought it on black Friday :) That would have saved me a few extra $$ :)

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommended

Pros: Excellent quality print, fast output (I'm coming from an HP 5L with 4ppm), and very inexpensive. Easy setup, worked great out of the box when connected to my wireless network parallel port printer server. Great service from Newegg. This printer is a true bargain and is highly recommended.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a great printer and at the current price of $132.99 ,a great deal. Also got incredible service from Lexmark on 2 defective units.See the cons below.

Cons: I have spec'ed earlier versions of this printer many times for family and professional clients. However, after a week of freezes on 2 Xp Boxes that, yes, had this printer installed 1 week ago, a client called Lexmark wondering if there might be a problem with the drivers. The rep he spoke with said they had been having problems with this printer causing freezes and over-nighted two new ones to him via DHL.And yes, using the exisiting driver installation and merely swapping the printers out fixed the freezes!!!

Other Thoughts: The only thing I can think of that could have physically been problematic with the USB port was if something (voltage perhaps??) was leaking on the port and traveling back to the host computer.New territory for me and the client!! I will indeed inform Newegg about this!

5 out of 5 eggsHard Core Printer! No let downs .

Pros: Excellent price for a solid printer that does it good.
It takes exactly 7 seconds for the printer to fire and finish one print after I click print.. no joke. if your doing multiple it 30ppm wow!!!. Full duplex printing!, and it workes perfect.

Cons: I no longer see free shipping being offered on this 02-17-2008.. i picked it up a couple weeks ago for $189.00 shipped.

no usb cable or user paper manual. .however thats to be expected these days. comes with good startup / hookup guide.

5 out of 5 eggsGood 1st impressions

Pros: A lot of printer for not much $$. 30ppm and duplexing for this price is outstanding. The output quality is excellent for the price - won't shame your high-end model but it's very good.

There were complaints that the E240D was noisy even at idle, since the fan never stopped running. The E250D is utterly silent when idle and the print mechanism is relatively quiet too.

The construction does not feel cheap & plasticky like many low-end printers - this seems well put together and quite sturdy.

Time to first page of 7.5secs is accurate.

Cons: Found in the manual: "Windows 98SE(USB not supported)" after I'd torn my hair out trying to make it work... and the parallel port would not do bi-directional for Printer Settings on my system.

The first printouts showed a narrow (1/8" wide) band about 1-3/4" in from the left edge, all the way down each sheet. Could feel it with fingertips so seemed like pressure roller damage - couldn't see it looking straight at the page but holding at an angle it was obvious and unacceptable. Running a few pages through in Duplex mode seems to have fixed it, even for single side prints.

Other Thoughts: These are 1st impressions with only a couple of days use, but so far I'm impressed.

Note: The E250D is not sold as supporting Postscript at all -- PCL5E & PCL6 only -- and there's no driver for Postscript. The E250Dn *does* have Postscript 3 with 89 scalale fonts so if you must have it that's the one to get.
