Pros: Got the Xmod from Newegg and it showed up right on time. This product is truly remarkable. I have it hooked up to my iMac with Ascend Accoustic CBM-170 Special Edition speakers and the difference in the sound quality using the Xmod is truly phenomenal. Bottom line, this product totally delivers incredible sound quality. The Xmod will take even already great speakers to another level. The processing can be adjusted to your liking and taste, and the look, size, and feel of the Xmod is just right. Creative has hit a home run with this new product. If you want to take your sound experience to the next level, this product is definitely worth the money and then some.
Cons: The only negative I can think of is that it only supports a 2 speaker system which is fine for the most part, as I already have the Creative Platinum Pro sound card for sound around.
Other Thoughts: It's nice to see a new product come on the market that actually does what it is supposed to and then some. I rate the product for value a 10 and for quality a 9 plus.

Pros: So far so good. There is a notable difference in the sound quality and it boosts the volume significantly. The sound is fuller will less distortion at higher volumes.
Cons: The documentation and instructions are lacking. I have no idea what this unit is doing and I can't tell what X-Fi crystallization is nor can I tell what X-Fi CMSS-3D is. I'm assuming the latter has to do with the surround sound but who really knows.
Other Thoughts: I am a frustrated disenfranchised audiophile. CD quality leaves much to be desired to begin with but then compressing into an MP3...grrrr!!! This seems to help some. It's not the panacea but given the price, it's a vast improvement!!! Go for it!!!

Xmod faking you out

Pros: This is truly a much better sound card than the one built into my laptop (Dell XPS M170) and probably most everyone's. Lower noise floor, crisper, more articulated... it improves the sound noticably. The crystalizer also makes low bit rate music sound better.
Cons: The crystalizer makes well recorder MP3's (ie. 198kbps MP3's or 128kbps ACC) sound ear achingly bright, I can't listen to it more more that 1/2 hour at a time, its extremely fatiguing. However, music will initially sound better with it on because it it LOUDER... this is an old trick. At equal decibles it sounds worse (this is a hard compatison to make, the crystalizer makes music louder at the same volume level... I used an SPL meter to ensure equality). The exception to this is poorly recorded music (ie. streamed music) which does sound better with the crystalizer on. The 3D feature is horrible for music, maybe it helps for movies?
Other Thoughts: Worth it for the better DAC, amplification alone. Don't but this for the other features unless you listen to a lot of streamed/low bit rate music.

Pros: Works with Mac & PC, driverless installation, works on all versions of Windows including standard and enterprise server 2003, better sound quality than mid-grade audio cards (e.g Audigy series). Works great with most headphones and computer speakers.
A great solution for a Mac, which cannot accept standard microphones
Cons: 2 channel only, not as clear as the X-fi internal card series, insufficient output power to drive high-end headphones (e.g. Sennheiser 650), fewer output modes than internal cards.
Other Thoughts: I switched from a Creative X-fi music card after I found the internal card would not work correctly with W2003 server and was very noisy. I've used it with XP, Vista, Mac OSX 10.5, and Windows 2003 server enterprise. It's the only product that I've found that works on the server operating systems. This is a great, all around, 2 channel solution which doesn't require drivers or the flaky creative software. Highly recommended.

Pros: Really well made product. Comes with a nice large volume knob, a carrying case, and a set of headphones. Sound quality is great with my Logitech speakers.
Cons: Only con is price. But you get what you pay for, and I'm a strong believer in that.

Pros: I have BOSE speakers and I'm using a fairly decent laptop. After adjusting the Crystalizer setting on the XMOD I can hear all of the instruments and vocals clearly. I can blast it pretty much as loud as I want to and not have to worry about distortion.
Cons: It won't make your mp3's sound like the best recording ever made (the company would have you believe this makes everything sound better than studio quality), but it's very close. A lot of the quality depends on your speakers, so don't buy this for use with generic-they-came-with-the-desktop speakers. Also, could be cheaper and not really portable since it requires a USB connection to power it.
Other Thoughts: Contrary to what some posters might tell you, it IS possible to improve compressed mp3's, to a certain extent of course. What this audio device basically does is run an algorithm to fill in and output the missing bits in a compressed (quantized) audio file. It can't fill in everything because that would require downright guessing, but it's thorough enough so that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference it did. Buy this if you don't have a good sound card already and are using a laptop.
