I really do not understand why so many people complain about this product. Perhaps the older drivers were causing problems ...

2 out of 5 eggsPiece of C$ap

Pros: When it works, it works.

Cons: Drivers are horrible.

Other Thoughts: 1) You will get 5.1 surround sound ONLY if you use this card as a "conduit" to get your signals to your receiver using the optical out. This card will NOT do ANY processing for you if youre using the optical out.
In which case, you might as well use a cheaper card.

2) The drivers are horrible, creative support is bad. I keep getting a message saying "The SBlaster AVMonitoring utility has stopped working" or some such in win 7. Creative support has been very unhelpful in resolving the problem.

Im getting an internal turtle card. Lets hope that fares better.

I thought we were over such driver issues already! Sheesh!

3 out of 5 eggsGood but alot of BSOD!

Pros: the price is good and the sound is decent enough for low end gaming/music

Cons: Every few hours and every time i try to update the software i get the Blue Screen. I just can't get it to update without getting the Blue Screen while in the middle of updating

4 out of 5 eggsEasy install

Pros: Easy install. Good software that comes with the product from creative.

Cons: My computer is catching up sometimes with sound but I am not sure that is related to the sound card.

Other Thoughts: Sleek design

5 out of 5 eggsIt sounds great

Pros: USB sound card! It may sound inadequate to some people, but to me this is the best thing since sliced bread.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I have had this device for almost two years. The early XP drivers were very bad, and often caused blue screen, so you had to do some trial and error to find out which drivers worked fine for you. For me, in XP, the best performance was with the original drivers that came on CD.
However, ever since I switched to Win 7, it has been working flawlessly.
To people who somewhat believe this is slowing down their games, I could not find any concrete evidence on my system. I benchmarked 3D Mark 06 with and without device installed and results did not vary. This is more then adequate for every day gaming. (sound and team chat)

2 out of 5 eggsHad hissing problem too

Pros: Sounds awesome! The cristalizer makes things pop and the overall sound quality is great.

Cons: I couldn't get the hissing to stop. It happened randomly. I did try the High Speed setting and it didn't help. It seems more like a hardware problem to me.

Other Thoughts: The hissing went away when I muted the mic/line in channel. So if you just want it for listening it is a good unit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little card

Pros: Great card. I recently purchased an HP business-class laptop. Using the 3.5mm built in to the laptop sounds tinny and low quality. I hooked this Sound Blaster X-Fi up to the docking station and the sound is fantastic! Using the optical output helps isolate the sound signal from any EMI. I'm running this on Windows 7 64-bit and I'm using the drivers downloaded from Creative. The drivers provide a software EQ that works well. Windows 7 is smart enough to switch the audio input when I dock, works pretty slick. I'm buying two more for quality audio on my home entertainment dock and my basement workshop. (Currently using one in my home office)

Cons: The only con I would say is all the junk that Creative bundles with their drivers. Check your startup after installation and clear out the startup garbage you don't need.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat audio card

Pros: This is a great 5.1 audio card for those that don't have any more room for an internal card or are using a laptop, I have had no issues with sound skipping or any other problems people have posted about. It worked without the need to pop in the creative cd for drivers and there software on windows vista and windows 7.

Cons: None i can think of.

Other Thoughts: I think some of the reasons people had problems with this external sound card is they did not have usb 2.0 or maybe just a dated processor.
