5 out of 5 eggsGreat sound!

Pros: Got this card for an Acer 4404 that is used as a music player attached to my home receiver. I play some Madden 2005 on it as well. The card sounds much better than the built in audio. Tons of avaible adjustments in the audio console.

Cons: Only fits type 2 and 3 card bus.

The Creative Media Source sure could use an update, I still prefer Windows Media Player.

Other Thoughts: The music sound has greatly improved. I can really hear the little things I was missing before. Also it made Madden sound spectacular. Oh yea, watch for Newegg's promo code in the email for a good discount.(I got mine)

5 out of 5 eggsA great soundcard for old laptops

Pros: As a mobile DJ I love this card-- it is perfect for interfacing my laptop with different kinds of mixers, and with some software I can even use the surround output to monitor on one channel while the final mix is pushed on the other, or even run the sound out to a multi-channel mixer. Great UI, very easy to set up.

Cons: Dell recently replaced my laptop with an exrpesscard slot-- DO NOT BUY THIS if you have a new laptop! All new laptops as far as I know come with ExpressCard slots instead of the older PC slots, and Creative as yet has no solution for these new slots. Adaptors exist, but are pricey and have very low compatibility with anything but wireless devices.

Other Thoughts: A wonderful product that, thanks to Dell, I am no longer able to use.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: The audio chipset in my ThinkPad R30 is dead, and this served as a helpful solution. It was easy to set up under Kubuntu Linux.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat product

Pros: Fantastic sound quality, loads of features with the optional software. Pretty customizable. Works great with my Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers and my Toshiba Satellite laptop. Sounds great with headphones too. They pack some punch in this little device.

Cons: Can get a little warm, but it isn't an uncomfortable warm, so it's no big deal. Another thing, it does stick out approximately 1 inch from the side of the laptop, again, not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I find there is no trouble at all when removing it, even while the computer is on. It actually switches back to my laptop speakers after I unplug it (becuase I didn't uninstall the old drivers), and works within seconds after I plug it back in.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Sound Card

Pros: Adds many functions my Inspiron 9300 didn't come with. Added software is used....quite a lot to be exact. Love it! Love the mini optical out, and the 6 channel direct. Brings my lil laptop to life on my 505watt Logitech system!

Cons: It does get a little warm if your playin some loud music. It is a lil warm just being plugged in actually, but it goes up to a point, and just stays at that heat level. Wont burn you tho.

Other Thoughts: Has to be "Safely Removed" in order for it to work properly the next time you want to use it. No problem, but it is no lie. You've got to do it. You also can't use the included software if you dont have the card plugged in. Worked great once I started treating it right.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: Great sound effects, first ever for laptops. Great midi and EAX options. Very durable and well made.

Cons: Vista drivers leave a lot to be desired, though XP drivers are very well put together.

Other Thoughts: I've used this on my Sony VAIO Laptop and in a PCMCIA card in my desktop after my Audigy 2 ZS PCI card failed. Much better than the PCI card. Vista drivers are not the best but get the job done. Hopefully that situation will improve. Overall great card, have had it since August 2005.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful hardware, shabby home

Pros: EXCELLENT sound. Great A-D conversion for recording, great SNR ratio for low noise/quality recording freaks like myself. Wide array of hardware FX processing, awesome D-A conversion. I also like the fact that you can have two stereo speaker sets/headphones plugged in simultaneously when using the surround cable and the headphone jack on the card (have to enable 5.1 or greater in the control panel though).

Cons: Although this card sounds sweet, what Creative put it all in isn't impressive. The card itself works fine after about six months of use, however the casing is falling apart. The inside end (by the PCMCIA socket) likes to open itself up a little, so I need to press it back together in order to get it to insert fully. The part that sticks out of the computer also wants to come apart, and a piece of plastic has already cracked off and gone missing. I fear it will break and fall off completely one day... Also, true 24/96 recording is a tricky game because the ASIO driver Creative gives you doesn't seem to want to cooperate with the popular recording software out there. A little rough at 44.1 KHz sample rates.

Other Thoughts: Overall an excellent buy. If I had the choice, despite the cons, I'd buy it again. I primarily use the card for recording concerts and playing back my recordings throughout mastering - where maximum quality is a must. I also use it a little for gaming, some audiophile listening on Sennheiser HD 595s and HD 280s.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Sound !

Pros: Quality A+ and can turn your laptop into a real media player

Cons: VISTA drivers suck. Have to re-boot to add or remove it. With Windows XP this was not an issue.

Other Thoughts: If your laptop has a front phone jack, like mine, and you also want a headphone port on the side (one in front hits your laptop cooler) this also does the trick...

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful sound on the go.

Pros: Sounds are clearest and cleanest I've heard (from a laptop;)

Cons: Too cheap for the sound quality ;)

Other Thoughts: I wish Thinkpads had this chipset as a built in option.
