Features

Features
The Micro II USB sound card adds a stereo analog output and an optical digital output to a Mac or PC. The stereo output drives powered speakers, headphones or an external recording device. Because it uses a USB digital connection, the Micro II isolates the audio signal from the noisy electronics inside a PC or laptop to provide higher-quality sound. A built-in amplifier delivers crisp, clear sound on headphones or ear buds.

3 out of 5 eggsA dollar a month

Pros: Worked well for about two years.
Handy GUI with EQ opens from notification area.
Sound OK for price.
Louder than onboard sound alone.

Cons: Not seen by system or Turtle Beach GUI anymore.

Other Thoughts: Made a pretty serious attempt at recovering device.
Not seen by Dev Mgr or Turtle Beach software.
Lasted for two years, sometimes at high volume.
Fairly happy still.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat device

Pros: Quick plug-in, adapter fits TOSLINK just fine, and presto for 25 bucks I play music through my receiver. I have thought about an outboard DAC for the desktop, but those run $200 plus, and why do that when I already had a sweet DAC in the receiver? This is an awesome solution for getting good sound from computer files.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsWorks really well, but too LOUD to be 5 stars.

Pros: I've only tested the analog output at the moment (will update once I test the optical output). Works great so far. No drivers required to install on Windows 7. Small, compact design.

Cons: I can confirm, that the stereo output is insanely LOUD. I've dialed down the volume to about 1% loudness and its just within tolerable for headphone users. But the volume scale is way to high! I haven't tested at full volume, but then again I don't want to go deaf. I can't give it 5 stars because its volume scale is so out of whack. I don't think this is an issue for the digital users (I will update). Could do without the ultra bright blue LED also. Most people likely won't find the LED an annoyance though.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little Card

Pros: Compact, sturdy, easy to use. S/PDIF...without going through any of my studio usb interfaces...for casual listening. Puts my Samsung i7 one step closer to being a desktop replacement. Signal comes through the software, through the S/PDIF, into my Onkyo and on to my Energy Speakers, with a Behringer Sub. Good musical fidelity for what it is...and nice for movie audio.

Cons: Audio software is kind of lame...what else is new?

Other Thoughts: Only way I know to get S/PDIF out of a laptop without a major hatchet job.

4 out of 5 eggsTurtle Beach

Pros: It does exactly what I need it to. After I broke my headphone jack on my Mac, the guys at the Genius Bar told me that I would need to replace the whole thing if I wanted sound on my laptop again (I disconnected the jack from the logic board). I got this instead, and it does the trick! Paying $25 is a lot better than paying $1800.

Cons: The sound is ridiculously loud. I turned down the sound in system preferences as low as it would go, but it's still pretty loud. When the sound is as high as it goes, the headphones literally vibrate in my hand. Any suggestions?

5 out of 5 eggsOptical Audio! Finally!

Pros: Adds TOSlink functionality for my laptop. Bought this to use the optical TOSlink with my Envy 14 to connect a Tritton AX720 mini-amp and it works perfectly. Just installed the drivers from Turtle Beach's website to use the 5.1 optical output an voila, perfect digital output. Using the digital out negates any TB audio settings so it's just pure, raw audio going to whatever amplifier you choose. For the price, couldn't find anything better.

Cons: None really. I guess they could have included a mini-TOSlink to TOSlink cable instead of the mini-to-regular TOSlink adapter, but that's just nit picky.

Other Thoughts: Haven't used the analog output and don't intend to.

1 out of 5 eggsDumb Question

Pros: Unknown yet.

Cons: Unknown yet.

Other Thoughts: My wife has an HP Pavilion laptop that has a sound problem we can't figure out or fix. It runs Vista Home Premium 32 bit. The common problem with these laptops is the sound chip somehow is not recognized by the OS. So, you get a 'no sound device installed' error. I was wondering if a USB Sound Card like this would solve the problem by bypassing the on-board sound chip. Any thoughts?
