a bit difficult to set up, but WOW!
- Pros: Worked out of the box with the drivers on the CD for WIN7 64 bit. Insane sound, PCI card doesn't require additional power cable like PCI-X does. (My graphics card covers my PCI-X slots so I had to go PCI)
- Cons: Like most others said, instructions are worthless but once you get this thing set up the sound is amazing. This replaced an X-FI extreme music on Win7 64 bit. Still not getting better than stereo out of optical cable but I'm sure I'm missing one of the kabillion adjustments this card has.
- Other Thoughts: Great sound but it takes a lot of tweaking to get it to work properly. Great jump from my X-fi card.
Worked better using the vista 64 drivers on the disk. When I tried to install the beta win7 drivers from the Asus site it resulted in BSOD and follow on problems. Removed beta drivers and rolled back to vista64 drivers and all is well again.
Well...
- Pros: Hardware itself is amazingly well built. All quality components and it LOOKS very nice. It even sounds very good... much better than any card I have ever used before it.
- Cons: Stay away from this card if you want any kind of support for your hardware. Asus are VERY good at releasing nothing but BETA drivers for this which are ALWAYS buggy at best, crash a lot and remove features that the card is advertised as supporting. Just go read the Asus forums and look at the droves of people complaining about support for this expensive PC sound solution. It's mind boggling that they simply ignore their customers for the most part. Now and then you get yoyolai posting on the forums asking for patience and saying Asus will be trying harder, but NOTHING ever really comes of it. This is why I am giving it ONE egg this time around. You can't treat customers this way, Asus.
- Other Thoughts: I love the audio quality of this card. It has incredibly good output as far as loudness/tone goes. The bass this thing produces is very nice. Just... I wish I never bought it simply because of the issues with their drivers and their complete and utter failure to correct ongoing problems.
- Pros: Much better quality sound out than onboard sound. Looks nice. That is why I give 2 eggs.
- Cons: Cannot get input using Line In to play on speakers; have tried everything. Probably a bad DAC. Tech Support phones are disconnected. Users manual is absolutely worthless.
- Other Thoughts: I will never purchase ASUS again. Ever.
