Pros: Great board made with quality parts, I'll tell you that much, I enjoy the sound quality, for the money and the fact that it's internal it's a decent sound card.
Cons: There's a built-in volume adjuste which bothers me because I want to hear the song the way it was recorded not how the Xonar interprets highs and lows.
Biggest turn-off are the drivers and the poor support coming from ASUS, the first 2 months I had this card ASUS only provided beta windows 7 drivers which was SUCH a pain!!!! The drivers and the software that comes with the card are still terrible. This is the reason it gets 3 eggs.
Other Thoughts: It will light up the back of your PC, there's lights coming out of all the 3.5mm jacks which I thought was pretty cool, useless but cool nonetheless ;)

Not Windows 7 Ready!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great sound if you can get it to work with the drivers provided and a lot of experimentation. Comes with a lot of cables for multiple connections. Ports light up via colored LEDs so you can make connections without having to dig behind your PC.
Cons: Drivers and support is just bad. Windows 7 has been out for a few months now and they still only have beta drivers available that cause many problems.
Other Thoughts: I too walked away from Creative products due to the cost and poor materials used (gone through 3 high end cards in just over a year) but at least they worked out of the box. Don't get this card unless you understand how audio works in windows and have some time to spend playing with all the settings. This is not a plug and play type card but it does sound good.

Better thenany Creative offering

Pros: Offers top tier quality, both for analog and digital. Full support for encoding to Dolby Digital and DTS formats, and the full suite of Dolby/DTS virtualization/upmixing functionallity. Also includes seperate digital input/output ports, as well as standalone mic input and line input ports.
GSDX mode allows for emulation of EAX5.0. Works well from what I've seen (Tested Bioshock, Battlefield 2), although some background noise is audiable with EAX effects and GSDX on. Note, GSDX may break sound in some games (Crimson Skies is an example), but the mode can be easily turned off, so its a non-issue.
Cons: Drivers do the job, nothing more.
Lacks decoder for Dolby Digital/DTS, but very few soundcards besides the ASUS HDAV1.3 and Auzentech Hometheatre HD come equiped with them these days anyway. If you are going to use 5.1 digital output, make sure you have a decoder on the other end. (For incoming encoded audio, most movie players have software decoders, and in the worst case, ffdshow can be used)
Other Thoughts: Users must remember to set the source audio channels when appropriate, or virtualization/upmixing will not work as they should.
Also, being a C-media based chipset, vanillia C-Media drivers can be used in place of the ASUS ones, although some functionallity may be disabled/removed by doing so.
I've never encountered the channel swapping issue some speak of, and from what I've read, it sounds like its been mostly solved.
