You love enjoying Hollywood movies on your desktop computer and would love to hear the original audio as if produced in the theater. But most computer sound cards cannot provide enough channels to reproduce the sound, do they? Today, we’ll free your ears with this wonderful Claro Plus+ 7.1 channel sound card from HT Omega.

As a digital HD sound card, the Claro Plus+ features 8 discrete outputs in a well arranged layout. How does 24-bit sound and 192 kHz sample rate sound to you? 5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound Card

Pros: Still working, purchased 10/22/2010
Great sound quality for the price, paid $120
Front panel audio hooks into the sound card
Solid Drivers, never had any issue with them, even when using Sonar X3
Improvement in sound quality over the onboard audio

Cons: I sort of wish they would make the software not look like it was made for XP. It works, so I guess I can't complain

Other Thoughts: I sometimes wonder if I should have spent more and gotten the HTOmega Halo instead. This sound card serves my needs more than enough though. I don't have a high end headphone set (I have the Sennheiser HD448). And the optical out signal to my receiver is quite nice.

5 out of 5 eggsJust a little info

Pros: do not own one but thinking about it.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: People need to remember that most games run at 5.1 sound and if you are using speakers or headphones with true 7.1 sound then you need to set your card to 5.1 or you will get crackles, blue screens, game crashes. Just so you know.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card!

Pros: Sounds great. Huge improvement over the onboard audio i was using for my home theater pc. Movies, games, music all sounded much better on the Claro Plus+.

Cons: Cost. Though, i think everything costs too much.

Other Thoughts: A nice addition for any home theater pc. It's a must have for a HTPC, and it actually works unlike some creative cards i have tried in the past.

4 out of 5 eggsI am now convinced

Pros: Excellent sound quality, better than any other sound card I've heard!

No more BSOD after the first time

Cons: Still getting snaps, crackles, and pops

Other Thoughts: By the way, this is actually an update to my initial review from a few weeks ago, but Newegg doesn't allow edits to existing reviews (you seriously need to fix that guys...most sites offer this ability!)

Still hearing infrequent noises during playback in all sources, but it's not too bad. After talking to HT Omega and reading up on it extensively, I've reached the conclusion that it is likely just a compatibility issue with something else in my system, perhaps the motherboard, or maybe Windows 7 64bit. I'm not thrilled given the cost of this board, but I can live with it since the overall sound quality of the card is so good.

The initial BSOD must have been an anomaly, since it has not happened second time. Overall, I am happy with the card, so I added an egg to my initial rating for a final rating of 4 eggs. I would recommend.

3 out of 5 eggsNot yet convinced

Pros: Major improvement over on-board sound that I'd been using for yrs.
Works on win7 (kinda)
Easy install with downloaded drivers.
Justifies having lossless music instead of compressed!

Cons: Expensive for such an old card
Snaps, crackles, and pops
Blue screen of death

Other Thoughts: I researched sound cards for weeks and decided on this one due to stellar reviews. I did not take this purchase lightly, especially given the cost for such an old card with limited software support for win7.

I was aware that some were hearing popping noises, but I didn't think I would. Well, I am experiencing it. It's not all the time, but it's there. I'm thinking that this is a result of the driver being a Vista driver and not a proper Win7 64 driver (I think).

Finally, I got the BSOD after running this card for a couple days. My PC runs 24/7 and it had been running every since I installed the card. and I had been using the card via multiple programs the entire time with only the minor pooping issue. But today, while listening to iTunes and browsing, the sound froze (started repeating the same 2 notes over and over) then BSOD. Been running fine since restart.

I'm currently scouring the web for solutions to the BSOD and poping issues. This card does sound fantastic, though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Lots of options huge upgrade from my old card its alot im glad i bought it goes great with the Z906 speakers the digital out is great!

Cons: The program for the sound card and speaker options feels cheap and cheesy for a card that costs $170 dollars i was expecting a better one. But the price feels a little high maybe im just delusional...

Other Thoughts: If your trying to decide and cant.. i thought about buying this card for the last year and finally did it im glad i did.
