1 out of 5 eggsOvercomplicated bloatware

Pros: You get 2 GB free online image hosting, runs stable

Cons: The program is the worst bloatware I have ever seen. It uses 5-8 menus to do one thing, when a single button would work. And this is not image editing software. Well, that's in there, IF YOU CAN FIND IT, it is 'family album creation software' meant to create family photo albums, share them online, and get rid of redeye. Not a lot else. This is not a 'budget' version of photoshop CS series 'ware. This is a totally different concept and is aimed at completely different users with totally different goals. I used CS3 for years, I got this so I could have updated software. This was, IMHO, a total waste of my money and time. I had been hoping for basic image editing software, and instead, I got a glorified photo album generator. Thanks adobe, I can download those for free

Other Thoughts: When you start this program, you do not get a picture viewer, or even a photo album, you get the home page, where you login to your adobe photoshop access portal, it displays various data I have found, so far, to be utterly useless, and in order to even see the photo album or editing software, or share system, you have to pick the right tab from the tabs menu. Then you get to the new window with the part of the program you hopefully need. Of course, the image editing suite is a vastly gutted version of the CS series, and the photo album has all kinds of extras I would never need or use in a million years. The share system is a clone of the photo album software and just has a share button that leads to half a dozen menues you need to tab through to get to the part where you actually share anything.

4 out of 5 eggsit is not 64 bit suported

Pros: it completely supported by xp and vista 32 bit systems. it has very great options

Cons: not supported by xp 64 bit system. adobe sales explained to me what the deal is that it will function as a 32 bit system on vista 64 but might have problems. it does not work well with 64 bit because it is still a 32 . i was told that it was not for 64 bit systems.

Other Thoughts: if u have a 64 bit system xp or vista u might want a different program. adobe said it is not supported by any 64 bit system. if u have problems with it u might want to go to another manufacturer. i was told that no adobe program is supporting xp 64.

4 out of 5 eggsElements OK! Premiere NOT ok!

Pros: Would like to note (relative to first 2 reviews) that they seem to be referring to the video editing version - i.e. Premiere Elements. The picture editing version (i.e. Photoshop Elements) is a completely different beast and this item is THAT beast. Photoshop Elements is a great program.

Adobe does sell a version that include both programs and a version that includes only Photoshop Elements. This item is the latter.

Cons: Agree that Premiere Elements (the video editing program) seems to be both loved (by those for whom it works) and hated (by those for whom it crashes). I have Premiere Elements and I finally got it to work with my video files by converting them from *.mod files to AVI format. But it was ugly before that with lots of crashes and no direct support from Adobe.

Other Thoughts: Again re-iterate that Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are two separate applications/programs. Photoshop ELements (picture editing) is great. Premiere Elements can be very, very touchy.

1 out of 5 eggsCrash City- No Good

Pros: The box looks nice.

Cons: It crashes my computer--hard. I bought a new quad core Vista 64bit computer. Premiere elements crashes immediately, or after a few minutes. It completely locks the computer, and I have to do a hard reset.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times, with no luck. I even did a completely new OS install (fresh install-not a restore), but Premiere elements still completely locks up.

I then tried uninstalling/reinstalling PE7 and then running it in "compatibility mode" that runs the program with "administrator" priveleges and with Win XP compatibility. Still no luck.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving up being a long-time Premiere Elements proponent. Since I need something to edit HD video from my new camera and with my new computer, I'm going to look for something else.

After all these problems, I researched Premiere Elements on the web. There seem to be a lot of stability problems out there. BUYER BEWARE! At least until they fix the stability issues...

3 out of 5 eggsNice features for beginners, but has horrible stability issues

Pros: For a consumer level video editing application I found the utilities that are available in PE7 to be fairly extensive. For someone who is new to these types of applications PE7 can offer as many features and options as you are willing to play with. I installed the software and without any knowledge of how it worked explored and played around with the features, by the second day I was starting my first project. There are basic video effects/animations that you can play with, title animations and themes that can be applied to videos etc. Working with imported video clips is easy and quick. I have a 3 year old MiniDV camcorder and videos import without issues, I believe these clips are imported as AVI-DV files. I don’t have an HD camera so I can’t attest to the HD video editing but it is nice to have the option with this software in the future should I decide to upgrade.

Cons: It is unacceptable for Adobe to release a product that has clearly not been thoroughly tested as it crashes far to frequently. Reviews of PE4 mention instability issues, I figured 7 would address these, that was not the case. Working in PE7 you will soon get used to saving very frequently as crashes seem to pop up even when not doing anything particularly taxing to your system. Another issue I am not thrilled with is the difficulty I am having importing other videos that have been encoded using divx or xvid formats. I believe this can be solved by hunting down the correct video and audio codecs. Some have complained about the Photoshop online accounts, I do not have any experience with this as I don’t intend to share any of my projects this way. It is not worth signing up for a basic account if you are hoping to use tutorials, a Google search will return more useful results.

Other Thoughts: This is my first real experience with any type of video editing software. I picked up PE7 up to finally spend some time editing and backing up the hours of tape I had accumulated over the years. Overall I’m happy with PE7. I needed something to use to edit my video, it was under 100 bucks. When it isn’t crashing it works well for me, crashing is just way too frequent.
