5 out of 5 eggsBest operating system

Pros: Windows XP Pro is still the best operating system that doesn't hog memory and rarely crashes. I picked up an OEM copy at Tveak for $59.99.

Cons: Nice operating system i have ever use

4 out of 5 eggsI'll take it over Vista.

Pros: It's a good OS, as far as Windows goes. Does what I need it to do.

Cons: Still need a floppy if you want to install to a RAID array. I was installing this on my new build, which lacks a floppy drive, and I forgot about that and had to run to [big box retailer] to grab a floppy drive that I'll only ever use for the installation. I don't think it's beyond Microsoft's capacity to change that.

4 out of 5 eggsNo CD key

Pros: Very good os, a bit expensive.

Cons: did not come with a cd key. it said on the package that the key would be on the computer case, but i built my own and there was not cd key.

Other Thoughts: i probably just got a lemon, but i couldn't get a key from newegg or microsoft. but, Newegg rules!!

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad..

Pros: To the person who said: "Does not allow upgrades fresh install only realized it was an OEM version a little to late."

Hence the difference between OEM and Retail versions.

OEM = fresh install only, no activation needed (usually)

Retail = fresh install & installable as an upgrade, and you have to activate it via MS.

For "somewhat high" technical knowledge, you'd think you'd know the difference between OEM & Retail.

Cons: Not really a con, but a gripe:

"highly technical" end users who blab about security.

Your installation of XP is insecure??
One command: gpedit.msc

Create a "normal" account that you use to browse the net/check emails/whatever.

Remove execute priv's from the Temp folder, under that account you use. (Thats where 95% of malware gets put.)

No execute, no infection. Pretty simple, no?

Other Thoughts: Gonna buy 5-6 more of these for various use. Want to set up an Active directory domain controller and learn about domain policies. Have a few extra pcs layin around (3 desktops and a laptop)

5 out of 5 eggsAs Advertised

Pros: No problems with installation on my new build.

Cons: Just the normal XP issues.

Other Thoughts: Exactly as advertised, so there's not much to say. It's nice to still be able to get XP.

Pros: No problems loading the OS on my new and old hardrives. The best cd I've owned of XP Pro, no problems at all.

Cons: None that I see.

5 out of 5 eggsBest upgrade to Vista available!

Pros: I'm a developer, using Microsoft products all day every day. I'm not interested in tying my own machine down with Vista. This is by far the best OS option. Great price and very stable.

Cons: It is Windows. Comes with a bunch of baggage-related problems, but this is the best of the lot.

5 out of 5 eggsLove It!!

Pros: The most rock solid stable OS I've ever owned. Started with Win95, then 98, on to XP Home, then finally this. Home version just doesn't come close in the stability department.

Cons: May be outdated in appearance when compared to Vista. No doubt I'll eventually get Vista, but will give it at least 1 more year to mature. I bought the full version of Win 98 the day after it was released. Not good! It did get somewhat better as MS rolled out the updates.

Other Thoughts: XP-Pro has been up and running right at 3 months as I type this. I'm a USENET junkie with 9 hard drives, and several programs to get movies to a made for TV, DVD player. XP Home hated some of these and hit me with the BSOD many times during the conversion process. No more. Pro never blinks.
