4 out of 5 eggsMeltman

Pros: It was windows.

Cons: The hard clear plastic case this disc came in was warped as if it had been left on something hot and the plastic became soft. At first, I thought this was some kind of odd design choice by Microsoft, but after seeing un-bubbly cases in stores, I realized mine had been melted by an unknown force.

Other Thoughts: I'm not judging this product by the software itself. Everone remembers Vista. I, personally, didn't have any trouble with Vista, because I overcompensated with my processor and ram. Zero issues with the software.

1 out of 5 eggsA poor excuse for a poor excuse.

Pros: The Cons outweigh the pros, but there are still some pros.
The interface is nice, polished looking. I like how they've started to emulate Mac OS. DX10, which is a must have for high-end gaming.

Cons: Everything that I didn't list above.
I have set this OS up on one of my gaming desktops, just for the reason of having DX10 support.
I was running XP Professional before, and I'll tell ya, performance dropped drastically after Vista Ultimate was installed. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried so many things until I realized that it is the OS that is causing my problems. I left Vista on that machine but I rarely use it. I get an average of 66-67fps in Crysis on my Win XP Pro machine with almost identical hardware as my Vista machine, which runs at about 31fps, but framerate aside, there is so much lag in the system itself, because MS feels like they need to have 30% of system resources running bloatware/unnecessary apps at any given time.

Summary: I've never payed $300 before on a coaster. First time for everything I suppose. This OS will die in the OS graveyard next to Win ME.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself the headache, keep/get XP instead.
Think you're getting better features or more performance from Vista? Very very wrong. Oh and don't think it was just that system that had problems. At my business I set up 12 desktops all running Vista Home Premium, and it was a nightmare. Simple tasks that shouldn't take long took very very long.
When I plugged it all in, and first turned it on, I was stuck looking at a screen that said "Optimizing your computer" or some garbage for about an hour for each machine!!
At least I got overtime.

5 out of 5 eggsVista Rocks

Pros: I just wanna let y'all know: I have an intel 1999 Mboard with 2GB Memory and a 2.8Ghz Processor - all upgraded. My Vista Ultimate syatem rocks and in spite of the tech. time and money put into upgrading my syatem I'm tired of all the Vista whiners and Microsoft bashers out there. This is great software and works great on older sytems - ok you need abit more RAM - big schmiezel! Mac Users will continue to drive forward with their heads in the sand and, for PC Users, instead of bashing Microsoft try picking on the pig of pigs and thief of thieves - Adobe. Vista Ultimate is great and all you computer users who disagree - learn how to drive. Yes, I am the Licensor!

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: Vista and Microsoft bashers are whiners. Mac Users are in for a rude awakening this year and finding drivers and tech support for unix is like ... well, the search for the unholy grail!

5 out of 5 eggsIt Has Changed My Life!

Pros: I now love Microsoft. This is the best. I installed the 64bit version. What can I say....I love it. Way to go Microsoft. And to think I almost listened to all those negative comments. I am so glad I installed this. My first computer in 8 years and I am 55 years old. Come on people, if I can build my own computer you can too!!! Very happy!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Vista 64bit, EVGA 780i Motherboard, EVGA 8800GTX, 4 gigs Corsair ram, Coolermaster Stacker 830 w/ 1000 watts of power, Samsung DVD lightscribe burner, Dell 2408wfp Ultrasharp, Quad Q6600 Intel, Two ea Western Digital Raptors 150gig 10000rpm, Zalman Fan Controller, Logitech G5 mouse and G11 Keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning 64-bit version

Pros: Stable system, I was skeptical to get but happy with this choice, running 64-bit version (only licensed to run 32 or 64-bit versions, not both although comes with both) using dreamscene to loop video in the backround

Cons: Need a fast computer to have a good experience, this thing is a pig when it comes to system resources, compare system requirements to XP, and you will see the leap is far

Other Thoughts: memory usage idles around 1.5GB
I would recommend a core 2 duo and at least 2GB DDR2 RAM on a dual channel supported MoBo with a decent video card of 256MB, I would also recommend a minimum of an 800MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) for a fast system.
Setup: E6750 w/ 1333MHz FSB, 4 x 1GB RAM 800MHz, 8600GT 512MB graphics, Asus P5E motherboard, 3GB/sec Sata HD...

4 out of 5 eggsNice looking OS

Pros: Really nice looking OS. Good features, fast if you have a new machine. Install was quick for 64-bit. Dreamscene is very neat for about 5 min. Only get Ultimate if you really need all the features otherwise save some money and get home premium. But if you do need Ultimate it is great.

Cons: If you are using dual channel memory of more than 2 gigs remove anything more than 2 gigs before you install Vista or it will BSOD on booting into window. spent about an hour trying to figure out why I was getting BSOD upon booting into windows. Turned out I had one bad stick of ram. Not windows fault but still a headache none the less.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Good operating system, this will get you all the goodies offered. I find that I can do common tasks much faster in Vista compared to XP.

Cons: Added features may not be worth the extra money. The Ultimate Extras is definitely a joke.

Other Thoughts: Vista 64 bit is great.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Just fine (sort of)

Pros: Vista looks nice. It also have much better hardwriting recognition.

Cons: Resource HOG! I upgraded my laptop to four gigs of RAM, I have a 2.20 ghz processor and my computer still runs slow at times and the processor starts to run really hrad. Also, i had to do two installs in order for my computer to get all of the drivers i needed.

Other Thoughts: Vista is a fine OS, if you have the experience and knowlegde about computers. I'm running Vista so I will keep it; however, it is not really a "must have." Get if you want it should be fine buy now.

5 out of 5 eggsBest OS EVER

Pros: The most stable operating system I have ever used. Way better than XP. Install was super fast. 32-bit emulator is solid.

Cons: Limited driver support for 64-bit version.

Other Thoughts: Best OS I have ever used. Very stable, good legacy support for most products (cameras, printers, disk drives, etc) that don't need 64-bit specific drivers (e.g., cameras, printers). Don't expect that Creative Nomad to work, though. Most legacy programs will work via the 32-bit emulator.
