HORRIBLE PERFORMANCE!
- Pros: Fancy desktop stuff? Can use more than 3GB of RAM compared to my 32bit XP.
- Cons: 64BIT NOT READY! I can't even remember all the problems I had with Vista 64 but here are a few.
First: Overall performance was sluggish. The desktop felt nasty.
Video Second: My 9800GX2 turned my room into an oven. Fan would go from 0 to 100% every 5 seconds. ANNOYING! I had the fan on 100% not only to deal with the heat, but because hearing the fan rev up and down was getting old, fast! Got 10-15FPS in Crysis Warhead Low @ 1440x900. Movies would skip when I would seek, from DVDs or from movie files off my hard drive.
Audio: No EAX obviously. Alchemy...yea right. Would not record audio properly. Line, Mic, etc. From Onboard Realtek, or Audigy 2. Had a constant pause/play with static type effect when audio was recorded. Had to reboot several times and hope it would work.
Designed for idiots, by idiots. I know what I am doing, I don't need to confirm 20 times every time. I know I can disable UAC, and edit my Windows in mmc to customize.
- Other Thoughts: NVidia 780i, Intel Q9300, GSKILL 4GB DDR2 1066, NVidia 9800GX2, Audigy 2ZS, WD 2500, 3200, 7.1 Creative Surround Sound, Samsung 26".
I had all the latest Vista updates. The latest drivers for my GPU. Latest audio drivers from Creative. Yes the 64bit versions!
Went back to XP yesterday and now I average 40FPS on High at 1920x1200 on Warhead? Not even sure but I don't skip frames anymore. No problems with audio. Awesome performance. Only 3GB of RAM but still perform better than Vista 64! I heard the 32bit was good though.
Oh my goodness!
- Pros: This...is...the best I've ever seen. I'm not that much of a fanboy of either intel or AMD, most of my life I've bought computers and not thought about what it has inside. Lately, I've been building my PC and I LOVE IT. With this thing inside of this, there are not hitches, no bumps, nothing standing in the way of my enjoyment. This great piece of technology is amazing for this price. If you're thinking about getting a high-end AMD proccesor, you've found it. With a 790GX Foxconn A7DA-S, you can easily overclock this baby to run as fast as those higher-end intel processors, and it's stable. I haven't overclocked it yet since I don't wanna ruin the warranty, but I will one day...soon.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: GET IT NOW IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IT, DON'T WAIT!!
Windows Ultimate Extra's are Worth it, if and only if....
- Pros: Adding on to my previous review.
Windows Ultimate comes with several extra's. One which includes Windows DreamScene.
Windows DreamScene is an animated wallpaper technology developed by Microsoft that plays high-definition video content as your wallpaper. The key ability of it is that it can do so without using significant amounts of CPU (basically the decoding of the video is the only real CPU use involved). The animation itself is run through the hardware accelerated DWM.
This app alone makes Ultimate worth it. It plays any video you want as your background, and the default video is pretty incredible already. (pretty).
As a designer, i am thinking about making my own video background with Particle Illusion or After Effects, it would be amazing.
Remember, this isn't for everyone and this program still does take up some resources so it may not be for those have bare minimum systems running Vista. -- The start menu now has a search bar which is actually extremely usefu
- Cons: Too many updates. I just downloaded 1.2GB worth of important to recommended windows updates for vista. This is no good -_-.
Language Packs are really big.
