Business Rules
- Pros: Boots quickly. Not bloated down with excess. Allows plenty of ram. Easy to navigate.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: I already had Vista home premium on my lappy so I was fairly used to the change from xp professional. It's pretty user friendly so I don't have any problems making adjustments and customizing to my liking. So far I hadn't any problems finding 64 bit conversions so this os rates well for me. I guess it helps to have up to date hardware.
Better than expected
- Pros: Got this for a new system build and didn't have any driver issues with any installed components. I was rather surprised when my older external devices had the drivers auto installed and they work just fine.
I was worried about some of my older programs working on x64 (much less Vista), but I was able to get them all installed and running. I even got QuickBooks 2005 running, which Intuit told me would not work with Vista. Once I found and installed an older version of Adobe Flash Player, it worked just fine.
- Cons: UAC is rather annoying. Win7 makes some improvements on that, fortunately. Vista takes some getting used to. MS had way too much fun renaming and moving things around, which can be rather aggravating until you figure things out. I don't really like the Vista backup feature, as it doesn't allow you to view the individual files without having to use the backup utility. I found some open source backup software that zips up the files, so I can more easily retrieve a file.
- Other Thoughts: I have to admit that I was rather reluctant to go with Vista, after primarily using XP for many years. I have Vista installed on my laptop, but I don't use that machine very often. Now that I have to work with Vista full-time, it is rather growing on me.
I could kick myself for not holding off on buying this for a couple of weeks. If I had, I would be getting a free upgrade to Win7. Oh well.
easy to install - drivers can be an issue
- Pros: The interface is nice and customizable, loading the PC up with RAM couldn't hurt system performance, some apps optomized for 64 bit OS (photoshop)
- Cons: Lot's of homework required for current driver settings. I had frequent crashing early on due to outdated hardware drivers.
- Other Thoughts: The only 64bit PC OS in town 'till WIN7 later this year.
