Its not worth it...
- Pros: I got my copy for free...
It pretty if you have an expensive machine to run it on...
- Cons: SLOW!!!
When i installed it i dual booted with XP, my computer has never booted up with the same speed. I also believe it cooked my RAM from making the CPU run hotter... Had to put in another 120mm fan just so i could keep it running. The UAC is Microsoft's way off screwing us over, the thing is useless and annoying. I only had drivers for half my stuff inside. I never had sound, video(at full resolution), my printer never worked, 2nd burner never worked. Nero, anti-virus, some games never worked.
- Other Thoughts: In a world designed around XP vista was its mean little brother. Always ruining your day, losing your important files, and getting in your way. Vista is a waste of money, glad i didn't spend any on it..
Disapointing Purchase
- Pros: Simple installation process
Visually superior to previous Windows OS
- Cons: Would not give me permission to edit/delete/rename some files, even after disabling UAC and running as Administrator.
Would not play commercial DVDs using included media player. Would complain about a licensing problem. VLC player would play DVDs without problems.
Was not able to install drivers for any USB Flash Based media device, though the devices worked fine on XP and Linux machines.
Had problems installing basic mouse drivers. The mouse would function fine, but Vista would state that it needed to install a driver. It was not able to install a driver and then would lock up my mouse until I rebooted. If I ignored the Driver Update message, the mouse functioned without problems.
MS Support had no idea what the problem with my software was in regards to the DVD playback and kept trying to blame faulty hardware (even though VLC was able to play them). They would send me KB articles that had nothing to do with my problem and felt very much like shooting in the dark.
- Other Thoughts: I was hoping that all the negativity regarding Windows Vista was due mostly to people having to re-learn their software as people are resistant to change. I knew that I was going to have to changes settings in Vista to have it operate in a way that I wanted, but the amount of difficulties and frustration I experienced was beyond what I had expected.
At this point, I have lost all faith in Microsoft delivering a good OS and I will never again upgrade to any new system that they may produce. I will stick with my XP.
Awesome!
- Pros: Media center is sweet! The UI is slick and easy to pick up.
- Cons: If you are not willing to upgrade you PC for a new OS don't bother. So many people complain about the cost of building a new system. Get over it and get a mother board that holds 8 GB in it's memory banks with DDR3. This OS will shine!
- Other Thoughts: Sure Macs are nice, but do you really want to come off as a snob? Get more for your money!

Windows Vista Ultimate is the most comprehensive edition of Windows Vista. It is the first operating system that combines all of the advanced infrastructure features of a business-focused operating system, all of the management and efficiency features of a mobility-focused operating system, and all of the digital entertainment features of a consumer-focused operating system. For the person who wants one operating system that is great for working from home, working on the road, and for entertainment, Windows Vista Ultimate is the operating system that lets you have it all.
In addition to all previously released updates, SP1 contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. SP1 also continues to make it easier for IT administrators to deploy and manage Windows Vista. Service Packs are not intended to be a vehicle for releasing significant new features or functionality; however some existing components do gain slightly enhanced functionality in SP1 to support industry standards and new requirements. |
