5 out of 5 eggsBest OS out yet

Pros: Easiest OS install I have ever done. Hasn't crashed or needed reformating (like XP always did every 6 months) in the 3+ years of using it. Great for gaming, internet and business productivity.

Cons: Wish I would have bought more when they were in stock.

Other Thoughts: Anti Microsoft and Solitare Pc users gave this OS the bad rap it got. Win 7 and 8 stink. If I wanted a mac, I would buy one.

5 out of 5 eggsStable OS

Pros: Vista got a lot of bad press but I have yet to see it. I have been running the original install of this OS on my gaming rig since 3/2009 with no problems at all. It is the longest I have ever been able to run a Windows OS on the original install.

Cons: Windows itself starts to use a lot of HDD space.

1 out of 5 eggsI WANT MY MONEY BACK!

Pros: Windows 7 came out

Cons: crashes, slows your pc down, over rated junk. one of the biggest pieces of garbage to hit PC's since Windows ME

Other Thoughts: just get win7. Vista isnt worth the trouble. Microsoft should refund everyone back their money.

5 out of 5 eggsVista really isn't that bad - if your smart and willing to learn something new

Pros: OK, Vista Ultimate x64 is what I have. It works extremely well with my 6GB Ram and Intel Core i7 (Vista sees all 8 cores).

I have had no problems with Vista except the annoying permission junk and the restricted accounts, etc - the norm.

Vista networking really isnt too bad if you know what you are doing... and if you really know Windows XP well, you should do fine with XP.

As far as a tech standpoint - Im a network administrator for a multi-million/year company- I don't think the regular "users" in wok environment should be using Vista without some kind of training first. If they do 1 thing they are fine with restricted permissions. However, if they are installing or using other parts of Windows forget it.... they will just get frustrated.... why? because the average person is not WILLING to learn something new and instead they just complain that something sucks because they lack the capacity to learn something new.

Sorry folks.... Windows Vista is Fast & Reliable.

Cons: the annoying permission junk and the restricted accounts, etc - the norm.

thats really it...

Other Thoughts: Before you buy something new... make sure you are WILLING to learn it. Do not buy it assuming you know everything about it just because you know XP well. If you can't bother yourself to learn and try something new dont buy this and dont criticize it. Its really not that difficult of an OS... if you can learn.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Bother

Pros: Don't even bother with this joke of an OS. Only thing worse was WinME but in my opinion its a good competition.

Cons: To the IT guy saying it only has a bad rep:

Working at F(r)ys for 10+ years doesn't mean you know anything about computers.

Networking is RIDICULOUS in Vista.

You haven't found compatibility issues because you haven't tried to do anything with it. Installing Google Desktop and Yahoo messenger aren't going to be the ones that have huge issues.

Gaming is worse. WAAAAAAAAAAY worse. Period.

Should I justify your rant on multi-cpu gaming? If a game supports Multi-CPU than thats just it. Having Vista vs. XP is not going to make a lick of difference. (besides the general sluggishness of Vista.)

You can get a variant of DreameScenes on XP as well. Just not built in. But your a "IT" guy so you knew that.

The RIDICULOUS UAC in Vista is...well...ridiculous. And when you turn it off you just become even more of a sitting duck than when you have it on.

Theres a reason people bash on Vista.

I seem to have run out of room to bash on Vista. :(

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is out. Get it. Its Lovely.

5 out of 5 eggsDont Believe the NEGATIVITY!!!

Pros: I HATE all the VISTA bashers! This OS is great, and yeah, I gave myself a 5 for tech knowledge because I have been in IT for 10+ years. 1st and foremost: I have found ZERO compatability problems! There are things (i.e. games that don't support muti-core CPU's) that work better on Vista than XP. Some older games (yeah I'm a gamer) have to be run as Admin... same as W7 that launched today BTW. Vista Ultimate also has Dreamscene which is pretty slick! And the User Account Control that everyone is complaining about, can be TURNED OFF!!! That's right kiddies. Anyway, a GREAT OS that got a bad rap.... too bad. :(

Cons: Everyone will tell you it sucks.... DON'T LISTEN!

Other Thoughts: Were any of ya'll in the tech field when XP launched? That was HORRIBLE! Every scanner in the world was instantly obsolete. Driver Signing was just introduced and was a royal pain! All DOS based utilities (like doing a virus scan in DOS w/out booting the OS) were instantly useless. What a PIECE! But now it can do no wrong, imagine that. All in all, I think the ppl who gave Vista a bad rap are clueless and should just box up their computer and send it back. BTW, I'm no MS fanboy... WinME was truly bad. It would place millions of 0kb .inf files in the INF folder so that when you tried to install new harware it locked up... among other huge problems. So listen: I would truly tell you if Vista was bad, but I haven't found that to be the case.

3 out of 5 eggsSlowed my computer down

Pros: It helped me realize how much I miss Windows XP.

Cons: Need to have a up to date computer with a really good graphics card or else the experience is similar to molasses.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this, go get Windows 7 instead.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst OS I've ever worked with...

Pros: It looks good and the layout is pretty

Cons: The networking features from XP aren't available in Vista. It was mainly made for looks and for people who don't know much about networking. I'm a network engineer it Vist makes it hard to do things like set a static IP address and telnet into a device.

My computer freezes at the drop of a hat. I won't even do anything that requires a lot of process power but everything will stop in its tracks so that I have to restart my computer and it gets extremely frustrating. It'll freeze when I do things like:
-upload a video to the internet (every single time)
-do misc things on the internet
-work on something in Microsoft Word
-when the screen saver has been on too long

I have tried everything to resolve this but nothing seems to work. I used to be an in store tech at Comp USA and Circuit City (when they were still in business) so I know what I'm doing. I've done a full system scan to check for viruses, defratmented the hard drive, and tried small tweeks. Nothing works!!!!

Other Thoughts: I can't wait for Windows 7 to come out so I can get rid of Vista on my computer. I hate this operating system with a passion. I've never worked on something that freezes this much. What makes it so frustrating is that all of the hardware is brand new and powerful:
-quad core AMD (3.0 GHz)
-ASUS motherboard
-HDMI video card (1GB memory)
-4 GB of RAM
-2 TB hard drive
-1TB external hard drive (so that nothing clutters the internal hard drive)
