3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works ----- now!

Newegg: 5 eggs!
Excellent, as usual. All items received on time in well packed box. Good job, shipping department!

Cons: Win 7 64 bit RAID drivers are defective! Furthermore, Windows update fails to offer or inform us that updated drivers for “Nvidia Nforce” 5, 6, and 7 series chipset are available.
Shame on you, Microsoft!
Problem:
After Windows initiates and formats the “Raided” drive, the drive acts normal until restart or shut down. After restart, the bios raid indicates degraded raid drives. Bios raid shows two separate degraded drives. (I used Raid 1 – Mirror. Perfect for preventing critical data loss) Of course, one may think that a drive has failed, but that is not the case. Obviously, after many late nights I determined that Windows was causing them problem. One can only wonder how many other driver and/or updates we are missing.

Other Thoughts: Yes! This is an older quad core on an Asus supreme board, but I did a “Clean install” with the Win 7 upgrade. (No old drivers on disc) Besides, Win 7 is different than XP, so XP drivers should have been replaced. They claim “Windows Update”, but in reality, it’s not! I can get similar headaches by using Linux based software, but you get what you pay for. (Zero $)
I am building this computer for someone that, unfortunately, makes blondes look good. Yes, he is the one that customer service puts on hold because he is 6 steps behind where they told him to go. (I pity those people) He can use a computer, but gets lost if it is too technical. I depend upon Microsoft to update properly, so I don’t to fix the computer every day.

1 out of 5 eggsWill not Authenticated

Pros: Typical Microsoft

Cons: On install, invalid product key notice was received. Skipped that to finish install. Went online to authenticate, failure notice said that this key was for an upgrade to existing software and did not cover a clean install. The clean install is talked about on the box and was an option in the install process. Hate to call MS to get this resolved but may be the only option.

5 out of 5 eggsA Good MS OS

Pros: It's nice to see MS put out a good OS; it's been a while since XP SP2.

Cons: Compatibility with older programs leaves something to be desired in some circumstances.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect!

Pros: what can I say? Win7 Pro...perfect. I did a clean install on a dell optiplex 755 which had Vista Biz on it. Luckily, it was completely infected and hosed. I popped the Win7 CD in there, booted up to it, did a clean install as I didn't need anything from before, installed in 12 minutes, SP1 took almost 30 minutes to install, also installed IE9 and all updates...all in under an hour. Anyone remember how a Windows 2000 install would take half a day?

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: came with 32 and 64 bit bit dvd's in box.

5 out of 5 eggsA Good One!

Pros: 64-bit and very, very fast on every machine I've installed it on. I have actually had more luck running older software and games under Windows 7 than under Windows Vista. So far, Windows 7 has been very stable and reliable on all the machines I've setup with this OS. Of course, all the systems that I maintain are setup and then locked down so average users cannot mess up the OS.

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: It's funny how so many people blame Windows and / or Microsoft for their own inadequacies at using a computer. I had a guy drop off a system the other day, and he said he hated Internet Explorer because it never worked right for him ... he wanted me to install Firefox. (Which I did.) I opened IE8, and he must have had every toolbar that was ever made installed. All the toolbars literally took up half of his IE browser window. Uninstalling them all "magically" made IE start working again. I've run all of Microsoft's OSes, and I have to say, they've all run fine for me - provided I didn't go A-Wall with off-hand software, cheap hardware with lousy drivers, and as long as I never went in and tuned it up so "good" that it wouldn't even boot up anymore. C'mon people, give me a break.
