Nowadays, fast-developing communication and information technologies trigger an explosion of data on a scale millions of times larger year-to-year, yet your effort and strain on data management also rises. So you might need to find ways to make your computer both more powerful and easier to use. That is what Microsoft's new Windows 7 Operating System was designed to do.
Windows 7 has better ways to find and manage files—like Jump Lists and improved taskbar previews—to help you speed through everyday tasks. It's designed for faster and more reliable performance, so your PC just works the way you want it to. With 64-bit support, you can take full advantage of the latest, most powerful processors. Great features like HomeGroup, Windows Media Center, and Windows Touch make new things possible.
Build a Windows 7 Ultimate system, and explore all the great features today!
Pros: After struggling with Vista on my laptop I vowed to use XP as long as I could. After trying 7 for a while, I didn't hesitate to buy it. On a modern system (one from the last few years) it feels just about as responsive as XP. Memory usage is much lower than Vista, drivers are ready this time (only had to install video/ soundcard drivers), and it looks great. I didn't think I'd like the new design, but it looks good with minimal tweaking. I'm mostly a Linux guy, but I'm not afraid to admit this is a great Microsoft release. This is what Vista should have been.
Cons: Though it's lighter on resources than Vista, it is of course heavier than XP. Most 32 bit apps work well under x64, one or two of my games had problems that I have to find solutions for. I still think Windows is very expensive for an operating system. There is still a shortage of native 64 bit Windows programs.
Other Thoughts: My friend got Windows 7 working on an aging Dell laptop form 5-6 years ago. It's not lightning quick, but it works well. Network activity feels so much faster than XP; my WoW ping time actually dropped after I switched.

Better than buying retail

Pros: If you're looking for a version of Win7 and don't mind not having Microsoft Technical Support, then get this.
I was a little wary when I was looking at buying this. I didn't know if the licensing was special or came with restrictions. So far, I haven't had any problems.
Cons: None, really. Not having Microsoft Technical Support doesn't matter when you've never called it to begin with.
Other Thoughts: If all you're wanting is a copy of Windows 7 and want to get the most out of the OS, then get this. It's a full version. There's no bulk software loaded. You can upgrade or do a fresh install. There's no restrictions on it.
The only caveat is that there is no Tech Support. So, if you're used to being the Tech Support and don't mind not calling Microsoft if you have an issue, then this is what you're looking for.

Pros: It is a HUGE improvement over vista. Very compatable with vista and xp. picks up all my computers here at home and sharing is a breeze! I love this operating system. I only really have experience with windows over the years and this version blows me away!
Cons: it's HUGE...eats up 20 gigs of HD space...thats a small con as most HDD are huge in todays computers.
Other Thoughts: simple to install, runs like a champ most of the time...does hang sometimes...not for long though, my computer is pretty fast. I7 920, 12 gigs DDR3 ram, 1 gig video card, and an 80 gig SSD woo hoo!

Pros: Let me get this clear. I've been with windows for quite some time. I started with 95, and have experienced every version aside from NT and ME. I don't remember much from my time with 95, but I spent quite a bit with 98. Never had a lot of issues, except that my iPod wouldn't work with it when I finally got one. I then moved onto 2000 Pro. Spent quite a bit of time with it, and in fact liked it. It was very easy to use. XP was the same. I've only experienced Vista lightly. I've also spent a lot of time with Linux, mainly Debian and Ubuntu/Kubuntu. But... when I made the decision to put 7 on my computer I knew I wanted to go all out and get the best version. And let me tell you.... O.M.G. This is the best operating system I think has ever existed. I never experienced any issues with all of the previous releases, but since I started with 7 I realize why Microsoft caught so much flak. 7 is amazing, I can't say enough good things about it. It just works. Period.
Cons: Every time I "miss" Linux I remember that 7 works better than Linux ever did for me. I just miss having Amarok.
Other Thoughts: Just get it. If you can afford Ultimate, and your computer can handle it it's worth every dime. You won't be angry at your computer, atleast not Windows. You'll only be angry at programs for not using available resources properly. It's just wonderful. Takes hardly any time to boot. And simply just works.

Pros: Windows 7 is awesome. Very stable, much faster than vista and xp. Opens programs 2x faster than xp does on the same computer.
Windows snap is awesome and it comes in quite handy.
You can turn off UAC or even adjust how much it talks to you if you don't like it and it doesn't cause any issues like it did in vista. when it's off it automatically gives programs admin rights if you are and admin.
Lovin' the new task bar too. I can keep all my icons on there and have a clean desktop now unlike in vista where if you had nmore than 10 or so icons in your quick launch it crashed explorer when opened.
If you got programs that don't work on 7, it's got awesome tools for compatibility. Windows XP mode is pretty sweet.
Cons: None. I run 7 on everything if I can.

Pros: It works.
Cons: The product key was in poor condition. I managed to read it and get it working. It looked like someone used a pencil eraser and erased the letters and numbers.
Other Thoughts: 3 eggs for the produce key issue
