5 out of 5 eggsNUANCE Offer & Rebate

Pros: Not so much a review of the product rather a review of the Rebate Process. Yet Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Premium works very well for me and has improved over the years. I will still recommend Dragon NaturallySpeaking since it saves me huge amounts of time writing reports or simply replying to emails.

Cons: The recent upgrades seem more adding like Cloud access etc. more what I consider fluff over core software optimization or speed improvements and overall software size.

Other Thoughts: The product is great especially when taking advantage of offers with Rebates. I essentially received this version for free from Newegg using the Rebate process. Pay attention to rebate details like not using a P.O. Box but this too can be addressed via the support line. Submitted in Oct. received the rebate end of Dec.

2 out of 5 eggsIssues with rebate

Pros: The technology itself is rather amazing.

Cons: The user interface/ergonomics is still rather awkward and tedious, requiring "tuning" upfront. Software is at times not responsive enough, adding to frustration.
The rebate process is definitely flawed, compared with many of the other vendors. NewEgg is the only site where I would trust their rebate offers, and I have never been disappointed. But with Nuance, it took 5 months and two telephone follow-ups, so my advice is DO NOT GIVE UP!

Other Thoughts: I am very comfortable with typing, so this software is more of a curiosity for me. I don't use it often, but it occurs to me that it can be used as an educational tool for the spoken language.

3 out of 5 eggsNuance Dragon Professional

Pros: While Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional is acceptable - it has some negatives as and is little better than the standard edition. The company on the other hand is "really" doggy about sending out rebates.
I purchased this on 06/06/2014 and am being told my rebate is scheduled to process on 10/22/2014. I find this unacceptable and am also quite put out Newegg for selling in this manner

Cons: Nuance is not a company you will want to expect a rebate offer from.
The company requires calls concerning Newegg's rebate and even then
shows little concern for their commitments. I do not recommend purchasing from Newegg rebate offers.

2 out of 5 eggsNuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Premium

Pros: Version 12 works pretty well ... initially (one week).

Cons: Does NOT work so well ... after one week.

Other Thoughts: Dragon 12 Premium seemed quite capable when initially installed and Sony DVR files were loaded for transcription. Interviews transcribed with need for editing, but the technology is impressive. Or was impressive. Soon the product manifested a series of unresolved/unresolvable glitches - like abruptly stopping translation of audio files after generating one page of text using a Sony ICD-PX312 DVR - marketed as "compatible with Dragon NaturallySpeaking Speech Recognition Software" - which is the very/only reason we bought the higher priced Premium version to replace V10. Multiple attempts produce the same frustrating result.

Soon after purchase, Nuance released V12.5 as a free upgrade; nice, except it would never download. Subsequent attempts to contact Nuance for assistance result in 1) online forums soooooo lengthy as to be intimating and, so far as personal experience goes, unhelpful in getting v12.5 to download, let alone install; 2) a phone menu loop at Nuance that repeats itself endlessly; 3) emails to Nuance that go unanswered; 4) a tech support Skype number for which the customer must pay (haven't done this yet).

We expect - as do many others purchasers - much better customer support, not to mention bug-less software from a big-name software firm such as Nuance.

As to Nuance rebates, we bought DragonSpeak12 with a $100 rebate on top of a large NewEgg discount. The rebate - we complied with all its itty-bitty terms - was never received. Does seem to be a pattern here. (In our experience, other firms comply with their rebates; what is Nuance's problem - other than willful intent to defraud?) Wish there was a person at Nuance we could talk to about all this, but that phone menu-loop just won't stop playing!

1 out of 5 eggsBeware rebate

Pros: Works okay but not as well as my cell phone.

Cons: The $60.00 rebate is a scam, I sent it in the 1st week of February it was approved and stated I would receive the rebate in 30 days. Well its now 70 days and no rebate, When you try to contact them trough the link on the rebate web site you get "page not found" when you call them you will get an heavy accent person trying there best with English telling you they can't help with this kind of problem. You must call someone else but they don't know who or a phone number to call. I don't understand why people offer rebates and try to get out of paying them, don't they know these are short term profits because we will never buy from them again and will never recommend there products to any one we know.

1 out of 5 eggsGet slapped

Pros: Nope.

Cons: Yep, it's a con.

Other Thoughts: It's that experience where the whole start process is painful (that term is mild due to restrictions by this review system), and then when you try to get customer service/tech support to help you, they make you jump through a million hoops and actually mistreat you with stunning rudeness and contempt. I'm helping Nuance pay it's bills but I get slapped across the face by them. I couldn't even get started with my description of the problem because the tech guy kept interrupting, and then he raised his voice at me, and was very argumentative. I could barely understand his foreign accent which is kind of ironic considering the nature of the software. He would not even give me a phone number for customer service in the U.S. When I did get a number for Nuance in the U.S, I only got as far as a receptionist and then more of the same recordings. Never spoke to anyone else, problem un-resolved. Way over-priced, probably due to unnecessary headset when what I was buying it for was a specific ability of the software, not the headset. The GUI/menu is not intuitive at all. You'll do a lot of searching for remedies. I'm an old geek and this negative experience with this software stands out above the rest. Good luck.

1 out of 5 eggsbuyer beware --Buggy program

Pros: I have been using Dragon for over 20 years. When it works, it does fine and is indispensable, but the programming in C++ is sloppy and riddled with bugs.

Cons: The program will stall or freeze or hang randomly and for no discernible reason. Check comments other wholesalers and go to Nuance Dragon Forums and read of all the problems for yourself. This app had a more negative comments. The problem began with ver. 11 and you will find more comments on it there.

Might have serious problems with flash and Firefox

Other Thoughts: I am using an overclocked dual core E6600 with 4 gig RAM and 4 gig ready boost on an aging EVGA gaming mobo and GTX 680 video.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Consideration

Pros: Dragon naturally speaking has evolved into a very decent product. I am currently using this in a law enforcement environment.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You must train the software to recognize you voice, the more you use it the better it becomes.
