Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out "The Jackal", a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfill your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

  • newegg DUNIA ENGINE The Dunia Engine was built specifically for Far Cry 2 by the award-winning Ubisoft Montréal development team. It delivers the most realistic destructible environments, amazing special effects such as dynamic fire propagation and storm effects, real-time night-and-day cycle, dynamic music system, non-scripted enemy A.I. and so much more…
  • newegg REAL-TIME IMMERSION Real-time story telling, systemic auto-healing, minimal in-game interface are just few of the features that will make you feel the tension of being alone against barbarous warlords that threaten thousands of innocent lives.
  • newegg WEAPONS OF CHOICE Choose from a wide range of weapons to make your way to your primary target. Meet the fight head-on with your machine-gun, go berserk with your machete or make stealth kills as a Sniper. If you feel that the atmosphere is not warm enough, light up your flamethrower and let your enemies and everything around them feel the heat.

2 out of 5 eggsgood game, if it does not crash

Pros: Fun game, big maps, good wep selection, price

Cons: The problem I have is after I save my progress about 5 times, the game locks up. I have to ctl-alt-del and kill it in task manager. If I try to just restart the game, it freezes on startup. I have to restart my computer, then I can play and save about 5 times before it locks up again. I tried all kinds of fixes. Never had a problem like this with any other game.

Other Thoughts: If you are lucky enough not to have the lockup issue it's a good game for the price, I would have been really ticked if I had bought it when it first came out for 40-50 bucks. I probably will not buy any of the newer versions of the game without some serious research about the lockup issue.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent sandbox shooter

Pros: Large, open world to explore. Plenty of realistic weapons to choose from. This was one of the first games I played that had PhysX, even thought the hardware I had back then didn't support it.

Cons: Missions are a bit repetitive, but you have the option to go out and explore and run side missions at anytime.

5 out of 5 eggsFarCry2

Pros: Graphics are great. Story line is good. I played all levels and Awsome is super .. do a lot of walking to survive. Just love the free roam.. Thankfully doesn't have intensive non-stop combat. (COD, HomeFront) this game has never ending entertainment, always somewhere to go. Definitely recommend.. Anxious for FC3.

Cons: Jes Ain't long enough.. and just a little more damage in the many accidents

4 out of 5 eggsBest Game Ever

Pros: I bought this game in 2008 when it first came out. I was amazed at the quality of the graphics compared to other games at that time.
The story line is good and you can free roam anywhere and take your sweet time in completing your missions. The downside is you may run out of Malaria pills and your done.

Cons: I have run this game on several gaming rigs. This is a power hog for your video cards and will also heat up your machine ram.
Whatever you have in your rig, this game will eat it up. There is no saturation drop off, it will continue to improve itself until it decides to freeze or even BSOD.

Other Thoughts: I have had more crashes on my higher power rig than the other lessor ones.
I contribute this to the higher memory frequency and tighter timings on the system ram on this machine.
Strange I can run other games with no problems at all.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game with Caveats

Pros: Lots of eye-candy. Great physics modeling. Fires, time progression of sun and moon, excellent weapons. Decent vehicle animations and feel. Large playing area. Traveling from place to place in various vehicles and boats. Blowing stuff up.

Cons: Worst con is that despite updating to the 1.03 (latest version) the game constantly freezes and eventually crashes your system. I have to save every two minutes (a pain) to keep my progress because of this problem. I've tried all the "fixes" suggested on an internet search but nothing has resolved this problem.

World is not fully destructible. Weapons age far too fast as any merc worth his salt takes good care of his weapons. There are no non-combatants in the general world, only in certain buildings.

When you eradicate a checkpoint to get at a mission stage coming back a very short time later and there is that checkpoint like you didn't do a thing to it and you have to eradicate it again and again and again... ad nauseum.

Other Thoughts: At this price, even with the cons, it's a fun game.

2 out of 5 eggsA Far Cry From

Pros: Good graphics.

Cons: Not even close to the original as far as holding your interest. You are more or less wandering around in this game and sometimes forget what you are trying to accomplish.

Other Thoughts: It appears that this was and afterthought and the authors couldn't make up their minds about what to do with this game.Save your $ and wait for FC3.

1 out of 5 eggsfarcry meets GTA??

Pros: game has great visuals.

where to start.. the game feels like a jungle rip off of grand theft auto.. you practially steal automobiles, drive from place to place. remember how in grand theft auto you would have to kill the pizza guy who would just drive in circles around the town? well you will find gameplay like that here too.. except its a weapon dealer in a truck..
id say the worst part about this game is that EVERYBODY, literally EVERY NPC you will meet outside of town or not in a building is trying to kill you.. you cannot drive down a road without random trucks comming out of nowhere to kill you. and once you drive past a small camp or area and kill all the badguys if you go a very short distance and come back, all those people you killed will be right back..
the game is terriable, you go from place to place like a delivery person and go through the same thing over and over again.

Other Thoughts: i bought this game at a local store when it came out.. i was hoping it would be like the first farcy but with better graphics, boy was i wrong.. this game is pathetic compared to the first farcry. crytek really messed up with this game.
do not waste your money on this it was the worst game purchase i ever spent. buy something else.

5 out of 5 eggsYoung people are spoiled

Pros: This game and the code for it, kicks major tail. Heh, it's not DukeNukem, but there can be only one (of those).

I run this at UltraHigh max settings on a MSI overclocked 6850 an it truly is immersive eye candy.

Cons: Writing a bad review on a great pc game?

Other Thoughts: Some of you guys need to push away from your gameboxes and computers and live real life, occasionally. L.M.A.O.

The game is a steal at this price.

It is every bit as entertaining as the first FarCry (which also, for it's time, was far ahead of the curve).

2 out of 5 eggsFar Cry 2 Ubisoft dissapointment TekLevelWhatever

Pros: installing was quick and auto update was fast. some things are very kewl. jamming guns are no fun but a realistic event in life and i thought pretty neat idea. and you that is too annoying just buy new guns. if you wreck a car you can fix it if you get to it before it catches fire. graphics are good. you don't have to enter key code to just play the game at home. you can play this on an older machine. not too demanding if you turn down graphics.

Cons: too many. to begin with the menus succ and are arduous and non-intuitive. you will search a long time for some simple setup movements. visual glitches abound. the ai is worse than Far Cry 1.[was a great game] when the game starts you have to watch a poorly constructed cinematic for 5 minutes to get you up to speed of the plot. then you walk through a village and start to suffer from malaria and pass out. then you wake up and are forced to watch another poorly constructed cinematic. in the first level you are forced to use a save checkpoint that sits on a shelf in a closet before the game will let you get started. and then the jackal will stand aside to let you walk out of the closet to begin the game. but the game glitched and the jackal wouldn't stand aside therefore i was blocked and not allowed to start the game. think about that. the game glitches so bad right at the very beginning that you have to reload the level 3 times and then you can actually play. geeesh! thanks ubisoft!

Other Thoughts: you have to drive a car or a boat across the map for everything. kewl at first but too much after a few hours. irritating after a day. all guns you pick up off the ground jam and ultimately explode. kewl at first but stupid after a while. all guns will eventually jam but very few will every blow up in your hand. stupid. enemy characters float up into space on occasion. the first time this happened i was like ???. then after the second and third time it was humorous. enemies seem to spawn out of nowhere at any time while driving. if you kill all enemies in a checkpoint they re-spawn if you drive away and comeback. game doesnt keep track of stats. so far. i waited a long time to buy this game and i am soo glad i didn't pay going rate. this game is only worth 4.99. i can only hope they do better in the future. all in all this game is no fun. i tried to like it and its just no fun. FC1 was fun so much so i still go back and play it through. again no fun!
