Guild Wars: Factions PC Game

ICON Loading...

Guild Wars: Factions is the second offering from NCSOFT in its award winning MMORPG franchise. Factions continues with the same basic design of game experience that made the original Guild Wars so popular. It does, however, present some new twists to the original that enhance and improve on a good thing. For example, two new classes have been added to the game, the Assassin and the Ritualist, but as always characters can combine these new classes with existing secondary ones and a wide selection of skills.

The Assassin is a dagger wielding teleporting class that can get up close and personal in a heartbeat while the Ritualist is a dark priest calling on the spirit world to channel the powers of the dead. Cooperative and PvP are no longer divided worlds in Faction and guilds draw from both styles of play to forge ahead in this stand alone expansion. Add to that a whole new continent to explore, new guild halls, new options in character appearances and several types of missions and Factions will continue to delight long time players and new fans.

If there's one thing that the team at ArenaNet wants to impress upon you regarding Guild Wars: Factions, it's that it's not an expansion pack.

Normally, we're trained to approach assertions like this one with an arched brow, but there's actually some truth to it in this situation.

Think of Guild Wars as a collectible card game. The first installment (which is called Guild Wars: Prophecies internally) was the "starter set," which established all the basic rules that would govern future installments.

ArenaNet is planning to release installments every six months, with Factions, slated for release April 28th, being the first. (There's a second installment currently in the works, which, if you do the math, you can expect near the holidays.)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Series

Pros: Great series of games. Well designed, cities and outposts, etc. are public domains. Once you leave the city the game is your own private instance for you and your party. Great players, helpful, good story line, good graphics. Holidays are fun, expect in game themes for the major holidays as well as gifts.

Cons: All that awesome and still it's missing... something. Dunno. Can't occupy my attention for long stretches for some reason the way others do.

Other Thoughts: I keep coming back to it though. It's a solid purchase and a real good time.

4 out of 5 eggsFactions

Pros: This game compliments Guild Wars: Prophecies and Eye Of The North installments! The game itself is just beautiful to look at and the places you see and travel really feel like a journey. The cities in this one actually feel like cities.

The new professions, all i can say is: awesome! The assassin and the ritualist are great additions to the series.

Last but not least, one thing i came to love about it is alliance battles. They seem to be a pvp war! most fun with pvp i've had.

Cons: You dont get skills from quests like you did in GW:Prophecies so you have to buy them all, which can be costly, you do however get gold for every quest just about. Because its bigger in scale it has a bit more lag than before but not too big a deal.

Other Thoughts: This was shipped and got to me in about three days and i love it, was worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Stand-alone expansion to Guild Wars: Prophecies. Guild Wars bring the f2p model to the West deserves praise in itself. Game takes place in an old-world Asia-type style. Fast leveling, you can get to lvl 10 just by doing the secondary profession quests.

Cons: Fast leveling is not always a good thing. Cap is still lvl 20, nothing new. Buying this product of Guild Wars will make you want the others to compliment it.

Other Thoughts: I love Guild Wars, and now that I have people to play with again I have been working through the campaigns. This campaign is the easiest to lvl through, so be aware you can hit 20 within a day if you try, or prolong it to longer if you want something to do.

4 out of 5 eggsGuild wars factions

Pros: I like guild wars factions as an add on to prophecies it took me about 2 months to get to lvl 15 in prophecies but only about 10 days from 15-20. I like the fast lvling. Cool new classes assassin, and ritualist. Faster storyline. Nice graphics as always on Guild Wars. Shorter missions. Overall nice game.

Cons: Once i got to kaineng it was hard at 15 all npc's are lvl 20+. No runs. Storyline can at times be tough to follow without guides.

Other Thoughts: I know it's been said but first, finish a prophecies charr it makes factions so much more enjoyable. Also, Factions is a lot shorter than prophecies.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: Good Deal, cheaper than the actual cost retail, or from the game website itself.

Cons: instant code vs cheaper cost(but shipping)

Other Thoughts: Saves you money buying it from newegg, why buy it through the store?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat game for 10$

Pros: Guild Wars Factions is a nice add-on/standalone campaign for those who like Player vs. Player game types because it adds Alliance Battles, large-scale 12v12 matches, and it adds a plethora of new skills/spells to the core arsenal.

There are two new classes: The assassin and the ritualist. The assassin's primary role is jumping into the fray and taking out targets as quickly as possible with different combinations of lead, off-hand, and dual attacks. The ritualist summons spirits that can aid your party or harm/hinder your foes.

Overall I'd say this is a great add-on to the Guild Wars experience, especially for the 10$ price point.

Cons: The single player campaign was a little slow story-wise, but I still enjoyed it.

Other Thoughts: For 10$, it's pretty tough to find a good game, let alone an MMO. GW is a good choice for those who want an MMO but don't want the subscription fees.
