5 out of 5 eggsSolid Server OS

This review is from: Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2012 (Base License) - OEM

Pros: Solid server OS. The change from Windows 7 interface to Windows 8.1. Could be a pro/con depending on your preference. The improvements to the OS are worth dealing with the change for me. I use Hyper-V and it has been improved.

Cons: None really. Having to buy CALs separately.

Other Thoughts: If you buy a standard desktop motherboard to use with Windows Server 2012, there is the possibility that the integrated Ethernet NIC may not be supported.

NOTE: The following devices do not have driver or software support for Windows Server 2012:
- Intel® Ethernet Connection I217-V
- Intel® Ethernet Connection I218-V
- Intel® 82567LF Gigabit Network Connection
- Intel® 82567V Gigabit Network Connection
- Intel® 82577LC Gigabit Network Connection
- Intel® 82579V Gigabit Network Connection

Many desktop boards use the i217-V NIC. Broadcom and Realtek seem to have support from Windows Server 2012.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, no hassle

This review is from: Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2012 (Base License) - OEM

Pros: Best server OS MS has ever come out with.

Cons: Metro interface is annoying but easily solved with classic shell - however, interface is really not needed.
