3 out of 5 eggsWindows...

Pros: latest and greatest of Microsoft´s Windows atm, which means you get all the support and updates.
Once installed and have it running, it works very stable and normal users can make use of it for their every day apps.

Cons: Cons are obvious. For every professional user this is somewhat a pain...
Surface isn´t good enough for a pro user, program options are limited by its surface, app screen is terrible, and for me personally the worst thing is its bad handling for a person that does a lot of overclocking.

Other Thoughts: If they would remove this app surface and bring a really smooth program which allows overclockers more easy to tweak their setups and system this would be better.

3 out of 5 eggsIdiotic OS

Pros: From my limited testing, this is faster and more responsive than Win7. Automatically sensed, downloaded various drivers, including fully proper nvidia, etc.

Games seem to work properly, and the OS includes the same compatibility option as Win7.

Cons: This is just one goofy OS. The 'Start Menu' in 8.1 is in no way a proper one, the requirement to click in certain areas of the screen, and then plow through options to get where you need to go is really inanely moronic.

Yes you can DL free fixes for this, but why should you have to? No wonder Ballmer's out.

Other Thoughts: I have this on a FX6300 setup and it certainly is fast and works is it was meant to. However, I can in no real way recommend this OS if you're already on Win7. If you're on XP, or just "buying in", I'd try to wait it out for Win9 and see.

If you're getting beat up by malware with XP, etc, you could always try a Linux distro or two. Then put the Win install on a Virtual Machine.

This OS is useable (hence the 3 star rating), but for me it's a learning experience vs something actually I wanted to do.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love this system for the speed and ease of use. I am not always liking the software but I was able to use the different way Microsoft Windows usually works. I was easily able to get around with little or no trouble at all.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggs8.1 is not that bad

Pros: This Windows 8.1 is a better improvement towards a easy and comfortable operating system. Games and software in general run smooth. The booting is fast and it is very easy to install. Overall a pretty stable OS, very clean and minimal icons.

Cons: It gets a little bit of time to get used to it, get to things gets a bit complicated in the beginning.

Other Thoughts: There is a significant improvement in the windows 8.1 experience especially if you have a touch screen monitor. It was built around that factor to speed thing up. The package is very nice and clean.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it with the update

Pros: The 8.1 update has, in my opinion, made this a great OS. I'm running it on a SSD and it is FAST. With the return of the Start button using it feels like using a re-tooled Windows 7 for our app-driven world.

Installation couldn't be simpler (I had to install from scratch, because I was still running Windows Vista).

Cons: Some features and options are hidden away in strange places. It takes some getting used to when trying to find certain things.

A few programs (like Windows Media Center) that once came free with the OS now need to be purchased separately. But rather than purchase the add-ons, I've found that the free alternatives available online have satisfied all my needs. So this hasn't really impaired my experienced at all.

4 out of 5 eggsNot as bad as i thought it would be

Pros: I was very skeptical of Windows 8 after hearing so much negativity towards it, but so far I have had no real issue with it. It runs fast and smooth, is easy enough to figure out and set up easy. Installed on an SSD in less than 20 minutes, and had a nice little tutorial to show you some of the key new features.

Cons: Seems as though the Control Panel has been cut by 75%. I can not say whether they have hid some of the control that Windows 7 had, or if it has been removed completely. Switching from the start menu at times can be a little annoying, but it only takes a few minutes to get used to it.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am very happy I decided to switch to Window 8, and have not regretted it yet. I just wish the control and setting from Windows 7 were here.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 GREAT, especially for visually impared!

Pros: Installed 8.1 on a build that replaced an almost-eight year old Dell for someone who is visually impaired. What I thought would be a difficult install proved otherwise, and the learning curve was FAR less than I anticipated based on past reviews of Windows 8 and 8.1. Once you get used to it, it's very easy to navigate, and it's far easier to do custom settings than older versions of Windows and go back and forth between settings.

Cons: Only con, which is minor is remembering where everything is at first. Once you get used to that, then it becomes much easier to use.

Other Thoughts: This version of Windows is WAY easier than others seem to make it, especially for the person I built it for.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter then windows 7

Pros: Uses so much less resources. Boot times are much faster then windows 7.

Cons: Start menu is terrible. Finding things like control panel or your computer specs are a pain the behind. Won't take any eggs off. (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: After installing windows 8, I downloaded Start menu 8. I brought back my windows 7 start menu look. Totally free from cnet. I can still use the W8 start menu while using Start menu 8.
