4 out of 5 eggsWorks and supports multiple languages

Pros: I just want to point out that Windows 8.1 supports multiple languages without having to purchase the Ultimate Edition, like Windows 7. Also, installation from a USB flash drive was pretty easy.

Cons: Yeah, you can hate if you want to. I do all the time. And then I get on with my life.

4 out of 5 eggsMeh, it's an OS.

Pros: All the features of Windows that I cared about, while partially relieving the pre-.1 patch qualms I had with 8. It serves well as a good way to get Windows 10 (free upgrade) without having to wait for a working OS.

Cons: Kind of redundant, as a Windows 10 build is going to run you about the same price... Just a good place to start I guess.
If windows 10 is out when you read this, get it instead; or go with an alternative like Linux Mint / Ubuntu. Or just try to get Mac OSX to work with your hardware...

Other Thoughts: Being the local techie, I deal with all the major OS in use in my area. Having spent a year and a half inside a Linux environment makes me question the use of MS Windows more and more... It's still the top dog in the game, but with all this "software as a service" stuff, it's no longer mission critical for many. If I build for someone, I'll ask them if they want a reduced price by trying Linux; if they hate it, I'll charge them $50 for the Windows install. As long as you teach them and offer good support, you actually make more money this way. Go Figure :p

3 out of 5 eggsWaiting for Windows 10

Pros: None, 8 & 8.1 are garbage.

Cons: I bought this OS only because Fotochop does not work very well on a Linux OS. I have a deep dislike of anything
Microslop turns out. I could go on & on with a triade of why I dislike MS & Bill G. Let's just say--shoddy, ill written
code, security (lack of until someone finds a bug),and of course, ripped off code from open source coder's which then get's
a copywrite which leads to your wallet being emptyed do to over priced programs. So like everyone knows that Windows 8
and 8.1 totally sizuck,I'm waiting for the upgrade to Windows 10 & rolling the dice that Win 10 will be an improvement.
I am running five computers & a server,Linux is the OS on all but one (Fotochop will never bust out a program that will
run on Linux, hence the MS OS). I have been using Fotochop for years & do not want to reeducate myself to Gimp.
So let's all cross our fingers & hope Win 10 is not another load of....well you get what I'm hinting at.

"Stupidity is the basic building block of the universe."
Frank Zappa

Other Thoughts: Hmmm only 3,000 key strokes.... not enough to vent my wrath of MS & big $$$ Bill.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 and you the consumer.

Pros: Newest
Not over complicated

Cons: The start menu!!!

If coming from windows 7 prepare to learn this new menu and the new search and computer settings tab which complicated it more but not too much.

But don't be sad cause windows 10 fixes this if you do decide to get the free upgrade from this.

Other Thoughts: You get a free windows 10 update with this or windows 7 and windows 10 fixes most of the problems with dx12 full implementation a more classic start menu and ditching the tiles and keeping a more windows 10 feel with a great multiple desktop feature.

4 out of 5 eggsGTX 980 ti

Pros: ok recieved item on time and in good condition.Installed on Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard, running Windows 8.1
Card was easy setup and preforming as advertised.

Cons: One major issue, the sound card in the graphics card was chosen as the default when I connected with HDMI cable to my monitor. Try as I may windows would not release default and let me use realtec or sound blaster sound cards. No audio.very frustrating. Do not believe this was the
fault of the graphics card ,but a windows problem. Two hours of Microsoft Tech Support to resolve this issue. Just heads up if this happens to you

1 out of 5 eggsScam

Pros: Faster than windows 7

Cons: They've streamlined the OS by taking out eyecandy and fluff features- To leave you with a touchscreen OS- They're just trying to hook people on the Touch OS so they can get a real share in the mobile market. SO many people think this a good os- If you think this is good you just like NEW, I like new but it has to add functionality not take it away. If you have a touch screen system you almost certainly still prefer to use a keyboard and mouse if you don't DON'T bother with this or at least download classic shell to fix this pile of steaming garbage.

Other Thoughts: Windows 10 will try to SHOVE there touch interface down your throat in a new way, giving you a start button that you click and up pops a little version of that good old windows phone OS most of us don't care for. If it wasn't for the fact that most software companies are addicted to working with Microsoft I would say I have no idea why anyone would use windows at all. Almost ever new incarnation of Linux has a far superior functionality (at least if you know what your doing) and almost every great feature of windows was somewhere else first- I mean Apple had the first mainstream window interface- (not saying I'm an Apple fan just true)

4 out of 5 eggsMixed Bag

Pros: Very stable for me. The learning curve going from Windows 7 to this was not as high as I thought it would be.

Cons: Feels gimmicky to work with at times, but nothing was outrageously intolerable or genuinely frustrating.

Other Thoughts: The start menu thing isn't a big game stopper for me, but it just doesn't feel right. It was made for drone techies, not techies that care about what things look like under the hood.

4 out of 5 eggsI can't believe all the hate this gets

Pros: It runs fast and smooth, looks clean and the integrated search feature is pretty good. windows 8.1 isn't as bad as everyone likes to believe. I use it on my Asus Transformer Book and Asus laptop. It does the job nicely.

also FREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10! still have an issue with the lack of a start button? other grievances with the operating system? well here have our new one where we fixed some of these issues and added more features, for free. no strings. that's a pretty nice bonus.

Cons: some programs aren't compatible with windows 8 and is the only valid reason to hate on this operating system. unless you have such an aversion to change that you can't stand the thought of a slightly different ui to learn.

Other Thoughts: I spend most of my time in desktop mode and honestly its pretty much an identical experience to my desktop which runs windows 7. just goes to show how "necessary" that start button is. I pin steam, use windows explorer to get to my files and if i need to get to the control panel, instead of clicking on the start button, windows key + c or just mousing up to the top right corner then click settings. not that big of a deal.

the long and short of it is, it isn't a bad operating system.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Windows

Pros: - Fast
- Quick Install (10 min w/ SSD)
- Customizable
- No issues ran into along the way.
- Quick startup
- Choice of 32 & 64 bit
- Came with free AntiVirus (didn't use it though)

Cons: - Some things don't run on Win 8 yet (My wireless adapter wasn't win 8 compatible and tends to disconnect randomly)
- Uninstalled a few tiles, just annoying.

Other Thoughts: I switched from Win 7 Ultimate and was afraid I was going to miss Win 7, I do but this still does it for me. I had bought a new SSD and wanted Win 8 on a fast, clean drive. It asks me if i want to use win 7 or win 8.1 every startup (haven't transferred from old drive yet) but i like that in case if i wanted to until i wipe the drive. I suggest this, highly. If your sick of your pc constantly running at the best it can to make things go faster but without straining your pcs lifetime, this is the OS for you.
