1 out of 5 eggsScam

Pros: Faster than windows 7

Cons: They've streamlined the OS by taking out eyecandy and fluff features- To leave you with a touchscreen OS- They're just trying to hook people on the Touch OS so they can get a real share in the mobile market. SO many people think this a good os- If you think this is good you just like NEW, I like new but it has to add functionality not take it away. If you have a touch screen system you almost certainly still prefer to use a keyboard and mouse if you don't DON'T bother with this or at least download classic shell to fix this pile of steaming garbage.

Other Thoughts: Windows 10 will try to SHOVE there touch interface down your throat in a new way, giving you a start button that you click and up pops a little version of that good old windows phone OS most of us don't care for. If it wasn't for the fact that most software companies are addicted to working with Microsoft I would say I have no idea why anyone would use windows at all. Almost ever new incarnation of Linux has a far superior functionality (at least if you know what your doing) and almost every great feature of windows was somewhere else first- I mean Apple had the first mainstream window interface- (not saying I'm an Apple fan just true)

4 out of 5 eggsMixed Bag

Pros: Very stable for me. The learning curve going from Windows 7 to this was not as high as I thought it would be.

Cons: Feels gimmicky to work with at times, but nothing was outrageously intolerable or genuinely frustrating.

Other Thoughts: The start menu thing isn't a big game stopper for me, but it just doesn't feel right. It was made for drone techies, not techies that care about what things look like under the hood.

4 out of 5 eggsI can't believe all the hate this gets

Pros: It runs fast and smooth, looks clean and the integrated search feature is pretty good. windows 8.1 isn't as bad as everyone likes to believe. I use it on my Asus Transformer Book and Asus laptop. It does the job nicely.

also FREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10! still have an issue with the lack of a start button? other grievances with the operating system? well here have our new one where we fixed some of these issues and added more features, for free. no strings. that's a pretty nice bonus.

Cons: some programs aren't compatible with windows 8 and is the only valid reason to hate on this operating system. unless you have such an aversion to change that you can't stand the thought of a slightly different ui to learn.

Other Thoughts: I spend most of my time in desktop mode and honestly its pretty much an identical experience to my desktop which runs windows 7. just goes to show how "necessary" that start button is. I pin steam, use windows explorer to get to my files and if i need to get to the control panel, instead of clicking on the start button, windows key + c or just mousing up to the top right corner then click settings. not that big of a deal.

the long and short of it is, it isn't a bad operating system.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Windows

Pros: - Fast
- Quick Install (10 min w/ SSD)
- Customizable
- No issues ran into along the way.
- Quick startup
- Choice of 32 & 64 bit
- Came with free AntiVirus (didn't use it though)

Cons: - Some things don't run on Win 8 yet (My wireless adapter wasn't win 8 compatible and tends to disconnect randomly)
- Uninstalled a few tiles, just annoying.

Other Thoughts: I switched from Win 7 Ultimate and was afraid I was going to miss Win 7, I do but this still does it for me. I had bought a new SSD and wanted Win 8 on a fast, clean drive. It asks me if i want to use win 7 or win 8.1 every startup (haven't transferred from old drive yet) but i like that in case if i wanted to until i wipe the drive. I suggest this, highly. If your sick of your pc constantly running at the best it can to make things go faster but without straining your pcs lifetime, this is the OS for you.

5 out of 5 eggsAvoided for No Real Reason

Pros: Installed fast, boots fast, runs clean. No extra bloatware installed with it so it's fairly lightweight. I avoided upgrading from Windows 7 for the longest time based on my mostly negative experiences using the original Windows 8 (grrr, Metro). So I was very hesitant to upgrade to 8.1 for the same reason, and only decided to do so when I saw that Windows 10 would be a free upgrade.

I have to say though, thus far I am glad I jumped to 8.1. It still has Metro, and there's a small learning curve to it, but Metro isn't the defining feature like it was before. It's much more of an evolution from Windows 7 now, rather than a massive change. I still look forward to Windows 10, but for now I'm happy with 8.1.

Cons: They got rid of Aero Glass. Why, oh why, did they do that?! The themes have kind of a Windows 3.1 thing going on now.

Also, I haven't had any trouble with drivers or software, but it's probably only a matter of time. Somewhat to be expected when upgrading OS.

Other Thoughts: If you're a hardcore Windows 7 user, honestly, give 8.1 a try. It's not as bad as you think. At least, it wasn't for me.

5 out of 5 eggswinders ate point won

Pros: Just kidding with the title. Its actually quite smooth and intuitive after a short learning curve. Did a fresh install on a new 850 EVO SSD and fast is the word . You will love it after you learn its ins and outs.

Cons: .none so far

Other Thoughts: I still look back in fondness to Windows 3.1. Those were the days.

1 out of 5 eggsReally Microsoft....???

Pros: It's NEW YEAH!!!! That's about it...

Cons: First... I just want to ask "WHY???" Did Microsoft Programmers just get in a board room meeting and say... "Lets do something we've never done before... Lets make it worse!! What can we do to make it difficult to work with, adjust to, and make experienced users scratch their heads?" Windows 8.1!!!!!!! VOILA..... C-r-a-p-O-LA! Tablet interface on a PC.

Other Thoughts: I'm still just asking why, shaking my head, and wondering when Microsoft will stop undercutting the pay of the Programmers.

5 out of 5 eggsSteam runs just fine waddya know. Very fast OS

Pros: Excellent operating system, very very fast. Metro is interesting, I actually find it saves me time. Everything else feels like XP. I spend the last decade on XP, so I should know. Except for one thing - the speed. Yes I have a faster processor, memory and harddrive, but my husband's laptop from Origin has close to the same specs and Windows 7. It's nowhere near as liquid fast as this. Really nice looking, smooth, easy to use if you install it clean on your own build. Backwards compatibility is very good.

Cons: None that I can see. it installed quickly and i had no difficulty.
