3 out of 5 eggsProduct Key Nightmare

Pros: I purchased Win 7 because I am familiar and did not want Win 8 because of bad reviews.

Cons: The Product Key is nearly impossible to read. It is on a label, and the actual product key is on about a 1/2" x 1/2" area of the label. 8's & B's look alike as well as G's & 6's. I used magnifying glass, and finally took a photo so I could blow it up. I got about 20 different possibilities. Asked my wife and son to write down what they thought it was, but nothing worked. I called Microsoft, but they said they could not help since I bought from a third party. I called Newegg, and sent the photo to the rep. She gave me her interpretation and sent it over to the help department. Her version did not work, and later that evening, the Help Dept sent me an email with their version. Theirs did not work either, however, what everyone had thought was a 6 was actually a G. The last grouping started with a BB, and the help dept. said it was 8B. I tried everything like they had it and changed the 8B to BB, and it worked. I really thought I had wasted $111, but all is well. Thanks Microsoft for being so consumer friendly.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 4 teh win

Pros: I'll choose Windows 7 over Windows 8 any day. Only a clown would go for Windows 8. RIP XP. You've been around for a long time. All things must come to pass.

Cons: Uhhh, it wasn't free? Micro$oft needs to make their billions.

Other Thoughts: dudes and dudettes, don't be dumb. Go online and research how you can make a Windows 7 ANY version from your current one. Also, get your buddy's 64-bit Win 7 DVD and burn it to a Windows 7 ANY version 64-bit DVD. You can now install the 64-bit version with this key. The thing is Microsoft doesn't differentiate between 32-bit and 64-bit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Option vs. Windows 8.1

Pros: The Good:
1- NO smart phone user interface
2- Auto locates 90% of your hardware drivers
3- IF you have a SATA DVD drive you can watch DVD movies w/o any 3rd party software
4- There is a way to unlock 32 bit RAM limit
5- NO half functional shell to download to use on your desktop (ala 8.1)

Cons: The ugly:
1- Product key is so SMALL you'll need a magnifying glass to read it correctly in order to activate Windows 7
2- Sooner or later Microsoft will drop support leaving us with Linux or smart phone OS

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind you'll need a DVD drive to install Windows 7 and above. Furthermore, this is an OEM version and not an upgrade disk. If you have issues activating Windows take a magnifying glass and re-read the SMALL font product key. When supports stops for Windows 7 and my only MS option is a smart phone OS...Ubuntu (Linux) here I come!

5 out of 5 eggsWin 7 Versatile & Awesome!!

Pros: Win 7 the nicer choice over Win 8.

Solid operating system. One of Microsoft's winners IMO.
I like the way task manager lets you right-click and go to the process file's location: very useful for eliminating troublesome/unwanted exe's or tasks.

Improved 'scheduled task' snap-in over vista.
Improved search. Trim support for SSDs. Robust recovery options. Flip-3D and/or still can ALT-TAB. Snap-to-grid with minimizing & restoring & resizing windows is an absolutely awesome feature. Use it alot.

Love the way the explorer address/toolbar system works. For example, unlike windows 8, within a couple clicks like what you're used to in XP, you can get what you need or where you're going---Just much improved over XP & Vista. Or you can change the file view from details to thumbnails in 2 clicks.

Nice native (built-in) support for a wide range of hardware devices.

Like "Devices and Printers" console compared to "printers and faxes" in XP.

Improved start menu over Vista. Shut down is now right on the bottom of the menu. Action center and built-in troubleshooting is actually somewhat useful on occasion. I like the support for SSDs.

Cons: 32-bit only support 3--3.5GB RAM.

Other Thoughts: Please fix the Microsoft Error Reporting service process. Fails every time it tries to connect and send your issues to MS. Sometimes in XP you'd actually get a chance to click on a link containing useful info/fixes for your BSODs or app crashes.
