5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, better price

Pros: Great little card. Linux friendly. Put it in, and it works with no issues in Linux or Windows. Works with all levels of trunking in Linux. No processor load to speak of.

The blinking lights look cool when it's trunked with another set of dual ports.

Cons: I normally look for something to put here, but this card has given me none to speak of.

Other Thoughts: What can I say. It's hard to give props to something so simple that does it's job. If you've got an old PCI-X board sitting around and are thinking about building a server, this board is a safe bet. It will work in a PCI slot, but given that one port on this card will max out the PCI bus it's probably not worth it unless you just like the blinking lights.
If you play with trunking in Linux remember that not all switches will work with all levels of trunking. I didn't have this issue, but it's worth making note of since someone might blame it on the NIC.

5 out of 5 eggsThese are good

Pros: These are good. Used a few in a commercial application running on Boomspeed.Com for three years before one failed today. Traffic was at 30-150mbps pr second for 24 hours a day for three years on a Linux custom compile. I am replacing the dead one with the exact same thing.

Cons: None really. It's reliable.

Other Thoughts: I don't blame the one for going out, for the use I got of it for three years it's a reliable part. Can't go wrong with one of these.

5 out of 5 eggsBest NIC if you run Linux

Pros: The Intel server NICs are probably the best supported of any. If you use Linux, then these are the card for you.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggstrouble at 1000 Mbit/sec

Comments: There is a bad batch of these 100/1000 interface cards that are reaching customers in Sept/Oct 2005. One symptom is spontaneous renogiation to 100 Mbit/s. The mfg is claiming some counterfeit product has been shipped to U.S. customers. Experienced finger pointing between the manufacturer and newegg.com. This is a ding on newegg's generally top-flight service.
